Very well light tunnel it actually doesn't hurt your eyes! They seem to keep the white tiles pretty clean compared to most tunnels.Safe travels! See ya soon Maryland!

Straightforward tunnel in Baltimore near the harbor, and while traffic wasn't great at 7pm on a Saturday (definitely slowed due to the toll and mutlilanes going into the two, design should be to not have to condense lanes when you reach a tunnel, they should've aimed for more lanes capacity.) Still, was faster than the 95 main road.

Coming from NY where tunnels are always backed up by 30-45 mins , Baltimore tunnel is just awesome .. usually no traffic or wait times . Well built and very good overall. Not sure what the TOLL for this tunnel is , but I'm sure it is much cheaper than New York . Iconic Baltimore tunnel ..

It's a fancy little tunnel that kinda looks and feels like an amusement park ride except it's cleaner and slower (please no bumper cars!) and quite the bargain at $4.00 american. Since 1957 the mile and a half long harbor tunnel has been carrying traffic on I-895 100 feet below the Patapsco River in a pair of two-lane tubes. Common courtesy and common sense make transporting bulk fuel, explosives, significant amounts of radioactive materials, bottled propane, and other hazardous cargoes a "NO!" If you have to ask...

When the Baltimore Harbor Tunnel opened I'm sure most people were in awe of the accomplishment and it was a time when such an event sparked interest across the nation. I personally love going through tunnels especially when there's no traffic like my recent trip through here - it's pedal to the metal and a time to crank up the tunes as you pass by the streaking lights. I think all tunnels are engineering marvels especially the ones built as early as this one when people got a true adrenaline rush by simply driving through even with a bit of uncertainty since they weren't as common as bridges. I for one trust the design and feel as safe as I do on the open road maybe safer. The new tunnel was heralded widely as a ground breaking venture and brought a lot of relief for those having to deal with of years of traffic that crawled through Baltimore's narrow streets. Construction began in April 1955, what an exciting time it must have been waiting for its opening, Omero C. Catan, of Teaneck, N.J., a mustachioed, cigar-smoking, catering-service worker was the first through he was known as "Mr. First," for much more than the opening of the Baltimore Harbor Tunnel on Nov. 30, 1957. Being first was a life long hobby of his and this was just one of many of his accomplishments. The second vehicle through the gate was another type of "first" -- a tractor-trailer bound for Jersey City with a load of Venetian blinds. The first accident in the tunnel came just 15 minutes after it opened, when a rear-end collision occurred near the Pulaski Highway exit. A vehicle driven by Francis S. Ruth, 19, struck the rear of an automobile, which then crashed into the rear of another stopped car. "Ruth, unfortunate to be the first man ticketed on the network of tunnel roads, was charged with reckless driving and failing to wear his glasses while driving". The first car whose engine sputtered to a stop at a toll gate came at 1: 10 a.m., and the first flat tire was at 2: 15 a.m. deep in the tube beneath the Patapsco River. The tunnel's first tipsy driver was George L. Curry of Beltsville, a carpenter, fined on Dec. 12, 1957, "$200.75 for driving under the influence of liquor," and "$50.75 for driving without a license" after his car was observed weaving along the road. So if you're thinking that something bad is going to happen to you as you approach one of the entrances it's doubtful that you'll be the first to do anything here...

Review based on several factors: 1.) Is this tunnel in fact a tunnel? Yes, 5 Stars 2.) Is this tunnel in or near Baltimore? Yes, 5 Stars 3.) Is this tunnel on or near the Harbor in Baltimore? Yes, 5 Stars 4.) Is this tunnel, a tunnel on both sides? Yes, 5 Stars 5.) Can I drive my vehicle INTO this tunnel? Yes, 5 stars 6.) Can I drive my vehicle Out of this tunnel? Yes, 5 Stars 7.) Does this tunnel consistently provide safe passage? Yes, 5 Stars 8.) Is this tunnel readily available when I Need it? Yes, 5 Stars 9.) Is this tunnel well lit? Yes, 5 Stars 10.) Can I hold my breath while driving completely through this tunnel? No, not anymore. 1 Star. Overall: I am willing to stake my reputation on the fact this this tunnel, is indeed a tunnel. The age of this tunnel, and the traffic that goes through it are of no concern to me. This tunnel is tride and true, and to my knowledge has never collapsed. I have no other choice then to deem that this tunnel specifically has done a fine job, and has truly stood the test of time. It's actually one of my 2 favorite tunnels in baltimore! Well done.

Well let's see....this is a tunnel and serves its purpose well. This is a 2 bore tunnel, that has two lanes in going north or south bound. The speed limit is 50 MPH, and sometimes when they have down time in one bore they have two way traffic in the tunnel and as we know not everyone abides by the speed limit so it can be a bit uncomfortable. When you go through this tunnel you do have to pay $4 at the toll. A highlight is at night it is well lit by the lighting they have. Also did you know you go under the bay when you go in here!! Well yea that's cool and you didn't even have to hold your breath or worrying about drowning lol. So all in all this is a tunnel that serves its purpose so why not give it 5 stars for doing what it is suppose to!

    Bruce K.

$4 seems a bit much for a tunnel, even if it goes through/under downtown. I found it to be a bit narrow as tunnels go.

    Kimberly T.

All the lights work and the tunnel seems to be well maintained. The only downside is there seems to be construction around the tunnel often which creates tons of traffic. Nothing worse than being stuck in traffic under water. Lol.

Smooth ride through this time. No traffic. Doesn't seem as narrow as some other tunnels I have been in. Nicely lit the whole way.

Nice flow of traffic, even though it's a Saturday night, with EZ-PASS it's $3, cash is $4.

What do you really say about a Tunnel? $4 is alittle high I though. Better than some Tolls and fees in NY

Wow! What a great tunnel. It has these cool walls that remind me of a pool. The roads through are nice and smooth. And they have free wifi!

Some establishments have left, some have joined. The crowds stay heavy. Sadly lately, the crime has increased making it sometimes difficult to enjoy. Parking is gawd awful, but worth the hustle. I pray this area improves as Baltimore City deserves this.

Fell's Point is located along the north shore of the Baltimore Harbor and just less than 10 miles from our hotel... we made our way here on MLK Day. Surprisingly, not all the businesses were closed on a holiday. We arrived around 10:30a and found parking. There are a few options for parking including metered parking and convenient lots and garages. We found an open spot on Thames Street. Fell's Point is beautiful as it was once a bustling shipbuilding port. We walked the snowy sidewalks and enjoyed the views of the wharf. Fell's Point is a historic waterfront and one of the oldest neighborhoods in Baltimore. It has served as the home to jazz singer Billie Holiday and abolitionist Frederick Douglass. I loved the cobblestone streets with many waterfront restaurants and bars and the local cute boutiques shops. We had brunch at Barcocina and did some window shopping at the cozy shops. We also shared a pastry purchased from Pitango Bakery Cafe located right there at the waterfront. Review #3664

It has free parking, free entertainment, visit to a National Historic landmark (1881 ornate Italian style church), a lot of great vendors and amazing foods. The "gladiators" pass you by on your way to watch a game of bocce ball. People are friendly as this is a block party festival that gives you a feeling that you are one big family. Very easy to start conversation and harder to end it. I learned today that the meat is not what makes calzone but the dough that hosts the meat inside. The meet was good but the dough was memorable. Speaking about the dough - how about delicious sweet fried dough for $3 that is impossible to finish by one person - even if you are a true Italian. I was advised by two elderly Italian ladies, "take real sugar because the powder sugar is too messy, and have sugar on both sides." I am sorry that I did not try meatballs but I can testify that calzone and pizza were the first class and worth the trip. I am very tempted to repeat the experience on a similar event - August 19 and 20, 2017 - this time just a saint will be different (St Gabriel in August).
