Think Jane Austen, think Pride and Prejudice, think Ballywalter. Wait, something is not quite right about that. I think the problem is that Ballywalter has never before been said in the same breath as Pride and Prejudice, but I think on this occasion it merits it as Ballywalter Park is the venue of a classic Victorian house, one that you would expect to read about in a literary classic. Okay calm down girls, Mr Darcy does not live here but it is in fact inhabited and owned by the Mulholland family.
Ballywalter Park offers tours of this historic Building for £6, this is an absolute snip as you will experience the exterior beauty of the gardens and the magnificent interior of the house.
I remember Ballywalter Park for its strawberry picking but unfortunately when I visited recently they had decided not to open the park due to two poor summers, typical Northern Irish weather.
But fear not girls there is always next year to fantasise about your favourite character feeding you strawberries and cream.
Do not worry lads it is not all for the ladies, there is shooting experiences, a Game Fair and a pretty comprehensive history lesson on the tours including an insight into what happened to the house during the second world war.
As with all things Ballywalter Park is much better in the sun and I know it is a cliché but there really is something for everyone, so get in your glad rags and transport yourself back to the 18th Century. read more
