At first glance it also looked the part of a luxurious hotel bedroom. However, a few things we noticed took the sheen off the room: Long cracks running up the wall and ceiling The counter in the bathroom had a big chip in it The handle that switches the water to run from bath taps to the shower was gone (there was a stub that worked mind you, it just looked terrible) I was very impressed with the banquet room; it was decorated perfectly for the occasion I was there for, a wedding reception. All the staff at the Abbeyleix Manor Hotel were extremely helpful and friendly. In the morning at breakfast they promptly brought things to our table that they just run out of at the hot food counter. The food was nice; from the finger food at the drinks reception, to the buffet and then the breakfast the next morning.

Nothing major admittedly but there were a few cracks and things not quite perfect the carpet in the room had a few stains. However the place is excellent. The staff and bar staff are really friendly, the rooms are very good value. The room we had was massive, it had two double beds in it and still had room to wander around. The bar is really nice and generally it looks great a really nice hotel out of Dublin. We attended a wedding here and the room for the wedding was really good and could easily hold 120-130 people. There are toilets everywhere as well and bars in all the right places. Add to this free ( good ) wifi and a quiet nights sleep as well its a great place to stay if you are in the area. Excellent.

We had one castle room and one carriage room for our stay. Both rooms were quaint and well maintained. The gardens around the property are gorgeous and wonderful to explore during nice weather. The only thing to note is that in off-season the main restaurant is only open on the weekends and the tea service is not available during the week. While we enjoyed the food at Hermione's, the day we stayed there was a group event closing the main restaurant so we had to eat in the bar area. Most of the activities are off the property which wasn't very clear as we approached the date of our stay. We ended up visiting the National Stud Farm (about 30 minutes drive) and the clay pigeon shooting (about 40 minutes drive). Highly recommend both activities and really appreciate the staff helping us arrange these activities. The downstairs bar area is open late with a delicious charcuterie and board games are available to use by the fireplace which was a fun way to spend the later evening hours. Highly recommend staying at Kilkea Castle Hotel!

The property itself is stunning. Plenty to do between golf, the spa, the gym, bird flying, walking around and great food plus drinks. We made the 30 minute ride to the outlet malls and loved that also. The proper Irish breakfast to start everyday was amazing! I wish they would bring that to the states. Thanks again for the hospitality! Cheers

If you don't want the full Irish (which i must say is good as they serve mushrooms, potatoes, bacon etc) there is not much other choice. I love fruit for my breakfast and bowls of tinned fruit is a poor substitute. The fruit salad only had apples, mandarin and a few bits of melon in it which is had to pick out. So i had to fill up on hot breakfast stuff and coffee. As i don't eat much in the way of bread that was ok but for my children they were disappointed not to find any pastries. The location of the hotel is just off the M8 but really there is no-where else in the little town/village other than a shop to see. Thurles is about 10 minutes drive away which is one of those grid-locked towns which should have a by-pass so that people visiting the town are not stuck in lines and lines of traffic. The evening meals in the hotel are rather expensive and without any neighbouring rivals they can be as there is not even a take-away near by that i could see. But the food we did eat was lovely, my daughter had a steak from the kids menu which was really nice. The chicken wings though were SPICY, so much so they could only be eaten with a side order of a jug of water! The pool is nice enough and the staff were very friendly, they even gave us swimming hats! Sadly i did'nt get a chance to use the gym as i had two kids with me but it looked quite good for a hotel gym. The staff on checkout were helpful, one of them kindly rang a couple of petfarms to see if they were open. They did have free wi-fi but it kept going off on me and was only really good in the bar area.

Upon arriving I was immediately greeted by Karen. She made me feel so very Welcome. She explained everything about the hotel and the town. Chelsie also helped me get checked in also. Chelsie made me feel very Welcome also. My room was so very clean, great bathroom, great bed , television , desk and was just perfect. The next morning I had an amazing full Irish Breakfast. Great Coffee and Toast also. The chef Steve is an amazing chef and so professional. He made sure I was well taken care of. He genuinely cares about the guests. The dinning room is very cozy and very well set up. Murphy's Hotel is located in the village of Tinahely , County Wickow. It should be noted I am originally from Dublin, Ireland, lived in the United States for over thirty years and served all over the world with the United States Marines all over the world. I definitely know an amazing Hotel from all my Travels and Life Experiences. I loved my stay so much. I booked one more night at Murphy's Hotel. I personally think this speaks volumes about this establishment! I definitely will return in the near future. Definitely a must visit in County Wicklow, Ireland. Murphy's Hotel rates five stars and more! A great stay , Amazing Staff and beautiful town. Shout out to Steve, Karen, Chelsie and William.

Food is lovely. The rest is in ordinary standards so I won't be writing about the regular stuff. The bad. Service is lacking. We had our room booked and upon arriving it wasn't ready yet. Which happens, it would be okay if a four star hotel would had offered us some complimentary tea or coffee, a cake etc. We came back in one hour and room was prepared by then. One good side is the pricing for the standards you get, except the service quality is lacking. At the bar restaurant (main opens only after 5 pm) we ordered three course meal and drinks. We ordered steak for which we had to pay extra €5 once we finished and went to pay for the drinks at the till. €5 fee applies to who gets steak with a voucher, we had that. We were not advised when we ordered steak that it will be charged extra. So that is another minus for service. IMPORTANT! This hotel mainly serves as a overnight stay for people who come to see their folks at the nearby hospital. Also, hotel supports local charity or some kids organisation (which is fantastic), just be prepared to see a lot of children running around in a lobby or swimming pool area. It's good for cheaper one night stay, but wouldn't recommend for anything longer than that and if you are looking for a quality high class stay.

Plenty of free parking both inside and out. Inside meet the friendly staff who are more than accommodating with reasonably priced rooms and all the amenities you would expect in a fine hotel. Check out the bar where not only great drinks are available but food as well. I recommend the 8-oz Irish hamburger (with a pint of Smitwicks). It's a challenge but well worth it. However, their club sandwich is hard to beat. Want something more formal? Visit the Cedar restaurant where you will find a great menu with reasonable prices. I recommend the salmon dinner followed by their great apple pie. Like some wine with dinner? No problem. A good selection is available. Breakfast! Be careful. You are welcomed by your host with coffee or tea followed by selection of great Irish traditional breakfast foods. It's easy to get carried away. Looking forward to visiting again soon.
