We sat in…read morethe main room of the building, in front of a huge fireplace, and it felt like the parlor in your grandmother's house with the wallpaper and antique furniture and high ceilings. The sun was setting during our lecture, and it gave the room a lovely glow. Earlier in the day, we'd visited Yeats's gravesite and seen the Lake Isle of Innisfree, so these experiencies gave our visit to the Yeats's society a special poignancy. We listened to a lecture given by the head of the Yeats society in Sligo, a delightful woman with a charming accent. She spoke for about 40 minutes and painted a beautiful picture of Yeats's life and experiences in Sligo. She recited from memory a few of his poems at appropriate moments in her talk and it was so marvelous hearing his poems as they were meant to be heard--spoken aloud in her soft, accented voice. One of the loveliest experiences of my life.

I was…read morejust out in exotic Mayo this weekend gone by for a murder mystery weekend organised by these crowd and they were fantastic. Firstly a bit of background - we had a long standing booking with another establishment that canceled on us at the last minute, and this was our speedy replacement, and it was fantastic. Julie, the co-ordinator, is really fantastic and sorting out what you need and arranging it. They have links with local B&Bs, hotels and other businesses, so they co-ordinate everything required. for 165 per person we got two nights B&B accommodation, Chinese takeaway on the first night (with a birthday cake thrown in), transport to our secret location, the murder mystery game (best craic I've had in ages) and a 4 course meal. Everything exceeded our expectations. The murder mystery itself is great fun, you all play a character and dressing up is compulsory (but they'll sort out your outfit for you if you need it!), you get bits of information and have to inveigle yourself with other people to try and find out whodunnit... this is combined with lots of subplots and silliness. They have a facilitator who keeps you on track and keeps the craic going. It's really social and so you'll end up talking to everyone. There's plenty of room for people with no shame to make a show of themselves (yes, that would be me), and for other people to take a more subdued role.... it turned out that I was the murderer and I didn't even know - damn amnesia!

They are all very knowledgeable about the area and have some amazing stories to tell! The walls of the pub itself also tell a story, with lots of personal photos and trinkets collected over the years by the family. They also serve the best pint of Guinness in the land! It's a great spot to come with a big group of friends, there's loads of space and also a room with a pool table! The pub itself doesn't serve food, but they very kindly allow you to bring food in from the neighbouring takeaway while you enjoy your drinks which is brilliant! Always make sure to drop by when I'm in the area, it's well worth it!

My sister and I were driving up to Silgo and decided to take a scenic drive around the lake on our…read moreway up. We were touristing, and I was delighted when we happened upon this tourist spot. It's really cool. They offer tours or just free roaming exploration of the grounds. We opted to just walk around and look at everything. It was insanely beautiful, like just about everything else in Ireland. Inside is set up like a museum with informative little notes about history on things. The grounds consist of an courtyard and then some fields just off the lake. After we spent some time just looking at everything, we stopped in the gift shop on our way out. I have to say they had the most interesting selection of Ireland post cards and magnet type things that I saw anywhere in the country. I would definitely make sure to come back and I tell anyone I know heading to the West to check it out. It's not an all day type thing but you can definitely make an afternoon of it with the woods just across the lake that are good for a bit of hiking.

I was greeted immediately by the locals, offered "the best coffee in Ireland" (too bad I don't drink coffee), and spent the rest of the night hanging out with my new friends. This place combines coffee shop with wine bar with groovy music...what's not to love. When Tom (the owner) is there, free wifi is available (no wifi when he is gone). The vibe is total hep cat meets artsy caffeinated wino. I haven't felt as comfortable in a bar as I did there in a long time. I wish this place was on the corner of my street, because I'd be there every day.
