This review is for the TRACK ONLY! My husband & I found ourselves in this particular side of SE DC looking for somewhere to run sprints. I stopped somewhere and asked someone if they knew where a good track was to run and they pointed me to Ballou. The track here is GREAT! Given the neighborhood, I wasn't too sure if I'd find a decent track, but Ballou's got it! The turf was nice & new, the lanes were freshly painted, the bleachers were clean, etc. There were students & coaches on the football field, as well as a few people walking/running the track gettin their workout in. Everyone there was friendly. It really made for a great work out. We did our sprints, ran a few sets of bleachers & felt great! I would most DEFINITELY recommend Ballou's track if you are in the neighborhood & want to get a track work out in! (Also - The School kinda sits up on a slight hill, so if you want to get a little hill work out in, you can do that there as well!) read more

Disclaimer: Thus review is entirely based on the building. I'm not a student here so I can't speak to the education or teaching staff, but I did spend a day here using the building for City Year DC on MLK Day. It's safe to say that Ballou High School may be the best looking high school in America. They recently build a new campus and it's huge and super nice! Everything is so light and inviting with large windows everywhere. The campus has a day care, gym, and even a giant courtyard in the center of the main building. The football field is amazing and if you haven't been to a Ballou football game, you need to! They have one of the best marching bands in the country and you'll never hear anything quite like it. They have even been on the Ellen Show a few times. They are that good! One of my good friends, Mr. Faber, is a teacher here and he speaks very highly of the students here. I'm a huge Ballou fan! read more
