Im making this review as an upcoming eighth grade student. This school has it's ups and downs but…read morethat part I really hate about this school is the overly excessive staff or staff that favours certain students over others. (Ms. Mason, Ms. Blanding, Dean Jackson, Counselor Square, Consoler davis,) if your student has any of these teachers or counselors, you may want to ask for a team change. Theyre SO obnoxious and rude. Dean Jackson, Counselors Squre and Davis are supposed to be the "support" of the students but all they do is make situations worser. For example, if someone is getting bullied they would side with the bully if they are "popular." Its so mind blowing. They would praise "bad" students and ignore students who are actually trying to be good in school. Ms mason and Ms. Kireme are just racist. Who tells a black student they love their nappy hair? ( Ms. Mason) and who tells a student to die and that they're stupid and dumb (Ms. Kireme). And guess what? THEYRE NOT FIRED? (Ms blanding is just annoying). Regardless of those horrible staff, the school has a GREAT education system. I really learned alot from teachers like Mr. Rivera, Mr. Toliver, Ms. Fogel, Ms. Lyons, Ms. schober, Ms. Mclean, Ms. Gleason, and Mr. Wilkins. (More good teachers I just never had) You will learn alot if you have teachers that can actually TEACH. Most kids at this school are nice, but a small group can be bullies (staff doesn't do anything about it. Overall, this school is great for their education but horrid from preventing bullying.

This is an excellent school. The teachers are exceptional, the student to teacher ratio in classes…read moreis great, and the activities available are pretty mind blowing for the size of the school. To say our kids our kids thrive there is a huge understatement, they are challenged when the work is easy and get fantastic help when they need it. The value for what each child gets is amazing, it is remarkably affordable. Cheaper than daycare! I'm always amazed at what the kids are learning, the community, church, etc. It's just a very rounded education. There are plenty of clubs, art, sports, music etc. The school and grounds are very big, so there are dedicated spaces for everything, modern computer and science labs, gym, cafeteria, etc. It says a lot when the kids are excited to go to school, leave with smiles and come home still smiling. We couldn't be happier.

Ignore the old posts from 6 years ago, because it's a totally different school. Probably more like…read more4.5, but always room for improvement! I have two children attending, one in preschool and the other has been there a few years and started in Kindergarten (no preschool when we started). The school has been changing, for example, the addition of the preschool program and a new principal after the other one left to get married. The current principal seems alright and is older, so more likely to stay. She is also better at communication than the old principal. I like that the school has more diversity that St. James, which also seems to be more conservative in its parent population. Tuition is reasonable, with discounts for multiple children and aftercare. The teachers love the students and there are some really involved parents that make the school year fun for the kids. It's like a family. I also like that the classes tend to be small (15-20 kids on avg). They have Spanish, art, music, and music classes as specials. CYO sports, band/orchestra, choir, are some after school activities to name a few. I don't like vendor run lunch program that costs more than I spend on lunch, so we mostly pack lunch. It would be nice to have two classes per grade, so there were more kids. I would also love if they switched over to a Spanish-immersion program for the diocese. Several of the teachers are bilingual along with the students. Some may have heard rumors about the proximity to Bailey's Crossroads. To date we have had no issues and the school has modern security, like controlled access to the school (i.e., badge or buzz in).

As an adult that works a 9 to 5 job, it's difficult to find the time for something like driving…read moreschool, but Pola and I made it happen! I've had major driving anxiety for years, but at 30yrs old... I knew it was time to sign up for classes and get the confidence I needed to get on the road. I was pleasantly surprised to learn that VA offered adult waiver courses for driving, meaning you could do x-number of hours in the classroom and behind-the-wheel, followed by testing with your instructor. That's right... testing with your instructor! No DMV road test! Pola is certified for this waiver program and it was exactly what I wanted since I have test anxiety as well. My instructor was Gabriel. He's a great teacher ...he was patient and knowledgeable and when I made mistakes, he helped me to correct them. Since my pick-up & drop-off locations were near where I lived and worked, we drove in and around those areas for a couple of hours per lesson. This was especially beneficial to me, because these were the roads I would be driving on, so learning the intricacies of certain intersections helped prepare me for driving on my own. In total, all of my lessons lasted over 6 weeks or so. Signing up for the waiver program isn't your ticket to an automatic license. You have to be just as serious about learning as they are about teaching you... they're the ones that are going to share the roads with you, so why pass horrid, incompetent drivers? Despite my anxiety, I managed and I feel great! A plus is that they're about a 5 minute drive from the Four Mile Run DMV so I picked up my certification on a Saturday, went to the DMV, and one week later I have my license! I am most appreciative to Pola Driving School (shout out to Soledad who runs the show! She was so helpful with getting the ball rolling and handling the certification process at the end). I know there are some poor reviews here on Yelp, but know that most people are going to post about a bad experience than a good one. Trust me... Pola could be the right choice for you... it was for me! I called around to other schools in the area, and the instructors sounded soo shady -- here I was, wanting to learn, and they just wanted to throw price tags at me. Mmmyeah, not the greatest impression, guys. I know this is a long review, but if you were like me... you're reading dozens of reviews for schools in the area and trying to find the ones giving real accounts of their experiences. Pola wasn't even on my radar at first, but I'm so glad I found them! *Note for anyone curious, they're fluent in both English & Spanish.
