What a finale to this year's opera season!!…read more We attended Vancouver Opera's production of Verdi's 'Don Carlo' at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre in Vancouver on 08 May. In one word, it was 'fantastic'!! And such a great finale to this year's season! The performances by all concerned were strong, and well-rewarded by the audience ... which was so "hushed" when they should be - you would likely hear a pin drop in the theatre during the many solos and duos!! - and so loud with their applause and cheers of appreciation after each. And that includes the orchestra's handling of Verdi's wonderful score. It was a large one in the pit for this production, and they did Verdi proud!! We were treated well, and still really have not "come down" from the total experience!! Our kudos to Vancouver Opera for another fine production.

The building is starting to show its age in some areas as the exterior and lobby area is in need of an overhaul. The theater itself has great acoustics and is a beautiful performance space. The surtitles can be harder to read if you are in the front rows. One can pre-order the drinks for the intermissions which is a great time saver. Other than if you are into performance arts I would highly recommend watching a performance here.

I was grown up watching lots of 80's and 90's movies and this was the great opportunity to join sound immersive experience with the orchestra. And it's only $19 The catch is this concert artists are still students from Vancouver Academy of Music. But they are great. They had lots of audiences and I was happy to help those kids(some are adults) as well. Everyone are happy. Before I booked online, I checked the seat map by the third party website. They have slight "width" difference. I choose wider seat on aisle and it was very comfortable. There was no price difference. I hope it helps you next time.

I remember watching it myself many years ago when I was a young girl and as she and I have read quite a few of the "Anne" books together, I felt she'd enjoy the show just as much as I did.  The show was wonderful but I was a bit put off by how late the performance started. Start time for the show was supposed to be 1:00pm but the show didn't actually start until nearly 20 minutes. I was also not impressed with the system for getting refreshments during intermission. The lineup to get a drink/snack was insanely long and didn't seem to be moving. My daughter and I gave up after awhile and just back to our seats. I noticed a sign which indicated that one could pre-order drinks for intermission. I wonder how many other people saw this sign. I think it would have been nice if they'd advertised that option a bit more.  Overall, an enjoyable experience. We came to see the show so that's what mattered most and the show was wonderfully done. Ballets, musicals, and conference talks are where the theatre truly excels. The acoustics and size of the space strike the right balance, holding just enough attention and gravitas to follow the plot without distraction. The rare times I've attended an instrumental recital -- particularly piano, without amplification -- the sound has felt a touch flat, lacking the resonance one might hope for. Overall, it's a comfortable venue for patrons. The seats are generous, and there's usually coat check and convenient nearby parking garages, which make the experience smooth from start to finish.
