Cleaned to a very high standard (I tend to check under beds for dust and such, for some reason!!), I was really impressed. We had a modern television and tea/coffee facilities. Despite this place being 3*, I feel it should be more. It couldn't be so because the room service and front desk is not 24-hour. Breakfast was included in the price (around £125 per night) and there was such a lot of choice. It was cooked to order and we were also able to choose from cereals and pastries, as well as fresh coffee and a choice of juices. The staff were really polite and cleaning staff on good form whenever I saw them.

Not just because free wi-fi is not a given in British hotels but because it was really fast. Fast enough to spend the night on Netflix which really helps. Only downside is that it all looks like it could use a bit of work. My front door seemed to end a full 2 inches above the floor and throughout there was a slight untidiness. This could be because it's an old listed building adapted to a hotel though, which is a major plus.

Everyone we encountered that worked here was awesome. There is no elevator so keep that in mind. We had extra luggage which they stowed for us downstairs. We settled into the very comfortable room and went downstairs and ordered 2 beers. We chatted with the woman at the front desk and she told us where to walk for dinner. She also helped us figure out how to get to the cruise port the following morning. When we returned from dinner she was still there and there was live music which was great. We had a few more beers and listened until she was finished. The next morning we enjoyed the complimentary breakfast. Besides the usual continental fare you can order a meal off the regular menu. What a deal and it was so good! Again fabulous service from the staff. When we were ready to depart they called us a taxi. I highly recommend this for a stay in Southampton. It's adorable and in a great location.

We were staying on the first floor in a room for 6 people as there was 5 of us. It was clean and well presented. There was tea and coffee and water in the room, with a kettle also. The breakfast was lovely and included a fry up (how you wanted it, you could swap things out) and cereals and yogurts as well as tea, coffee and juice. The girl who served the breakfast was very polite and attentive. On one night we had bought some things that needed to be kept in the fridge but unfortunately there was no fridge in our room, so we rang the bell at reception and even at 10:00pm, the lady who ran the hotel was more than happy to keep the food In their fridge for us! The only thing we needed was a fridge in our room but otherwise our whole group was extremely satisfied with this hotel and collectively agreed that we would return here again!

Nothing amazing though in reference to other hotels I have stayed at on this trip. Note: the floors here as it is an old building do squeak a lot, while walking across your floor. We were attempting a late checkout as we did not have to be at our event until later. I attempted to negotiate a late checkout only to be told it is their policy that after Noon they will charge you 10GBP per hour after. No negotiating. I understand policy, but with foreign travellers, they should try. The hotel we were at last city, was very accommodating giving us a 3 pm checkout at no charge. And a much nicer hotel at that. It seems some of the staff are a bit uptight and non accommodating.

We have returned here many times, and each time we have been impressed by the standard of service and the quality of the facilities. However, the food in the hotel's restaurant has unfortunately been a bit hit and miss. Breakfast here is wonderful with a superb choice of dishes and excellent service (the variety of juices on offer is in itself impressive), but we've been less impressed with dinner on a couple of occasions - the execution doesn't quite live up to the expectation set by reading the menu. Don't let this put you off though - there are generally good deals to be had here for room, breakfast and dinner packages, and lots to do in the surrounding area.

But if you have stayed in Bournemouth before you will know that in some areas it can be impossible to sleep at night. The breakfast which is cooked by Brian is great and you can choose from a list of items that you would like, which is useful for veggies.
