Street canteen is a Malaysian restaurant closes to my hotel during my recent trip to Helsinki and of course I couldn't miss. My favorite item is actually the place salad bar for lunch where you can find some Malaysian style salad like kelabu, spring rolls, etc and they taste really good. My other favorite is fried udon noodles and lemongrass chicken. Fried udon is not a Japanese noodle here, it's like KL fried hokkien noodle with more vegetables. Lemongrass chicken is deep fried chicken to crunch with lemongrass seasoning, taste perfectly. The restaurant is spacious and the decor is beautiful, very Malaysian style and feel. Highly recommended if you are in Helsinki and looking for Malaysian food.

Could be because they're new, but regardless I would still recommend THIS location. Why? Their portions. Their portions are bigger than the other locations leaving you extremely satisfied. A few coworkers and I came here for lunch and when we received our food literally all of our eyes looked like O.O because the portion was bigger than what we were used to at other locations. PLEASE DONT CHANGE THIS. Perfect portion size in my opinion :D Other than that, it is no different from the other locations. Enjoy a pita, meze, or salad with your protein of choice. Service was the same, as well as the interior. Oh, and their lemonade was pretty good too. :)

We had the meze platter and the Tawook Chicken - both were excellent and we could not finish them!. We could not have asked for a better meal (and a nice change from the more traditional Nordic meal). Would go back again.

I stopped in for take out and ordered the chicken new school dumplings and the pork bao. Despite walking 15 minutes back to my hotel these puppies were still warm. The dumplings get a 10/10, there were the perfect warm comfort meal I had been craving with the rainy Helsinki weather. The pork Bao were okay- they were really sweet and I found myself trying to add toppings from the dumplings to correct it. They also came with a sauce which was also sweet- I wish it had been more savory. Finished the dumplings of course but left one of the pork buns. Overall a win, I spent roughly $28EUR, if I were in the states that would be a lot for dumplings but seems like the average price in Helsinki. I highly recommend checking it out, this place was packed! People continued to pour in throughout my 15 minutes of waiting for my take out. Clearly it's a local gem.
