I often grab some white rolls when I'm making hamburgers, because they're easy to get to on my way home. They do have a lot of competition in the location that they are in, but for the products that they offer, they're every bit as good as the others. I haven't yet had any pies or sausage rolls there, but the people are lovely and chatty, and I've always walked out feeling as good as you could expect when you buy something at a bakery. I never really liked the cheese and bacon rolls though - Mum just thought I did. The truth is, they pile a big lump of cheese and bacon right in the middle of the roll. I eat them plain and it means that I get a heap of mouthfuls of plain bread before an overwhelming cheesy bacon bit in the middle. I used to put them in my school bag and throw them in the bin at school if I remember correctly. But aside from the cheese and bacon rolls, they make the most amazing cinnamon doughnuts I have ever tasted. No joke - Knoxfield Bakery. At only 90 cents per doughnut, they are the perfect consistency. Not too hard and not too light. I think I could eat their cinnamon doughnuts all day long and that isn't me exaggerating. The other prices are pretty good and they make really fun cupcakes with smiley faces on them - they taste really good too. Prices are cheap and for the most part I like their products. (Lets not mention those cheese and bacon rolls.) The service is quick and the staff are friendly too. The filling is well seasoned with melt in your mouth chunks of beef. The pastry is delicious and buttery... but not messily over the top flakey. Spot on! Carol's offer normal sized pies for around $5 and a family sized pie for around $20. They have frozen stock at times so you can save it away in the freezer for when you have a pie craving (if you can resist not eating it straight away!!) Carol does some enormous (huge!) sausage rolls which are delish as well. Not your dubious quality servo sausage roll. These are top notch! There's also other dishes available which I'm yet to try ... However I'd imagine they're bang on yummy home cooking (... but better than home cooking) going by what I've tried so far!!! Recommend you stop by, but please leave a pie or two for me ;)

Carol and her husband Keith run this place by themselves, with an emphasis on top notch food. They provide fresh baked goods and also pre-made meals. The shop itself is neat and clean. There are display cases as soon as you walk through the door, and depending on what they've whipped up, you could buy anything from muffins, salads, mac and cheese, biscuits, pasta bakes, cakes etc... But for me, the stand out item here is her pies. I have never had a pie this delicious. In fact, I might be under selling them a tad...these are the best pies in Melbourne! The pastry is perfectly flaky and golden and inside is the most amazing fillings. My favourite is the chunky beef, but she also does many other styles such as curried beef mince, Thai chicken and lamb. I'm probably leaving out a few but you get the idea. This is one of those places you would go out of your way to visit just to get some beautiful home style comfort food. Carol and Keith always make you feel welcome.

This place is in the top 3 of donut deliciousness that Melbourne is currently embracing in all it's glazed goodness. The donuts here are surprisingly light and fluffy. We ended up with a creme brulee and a jaffa. I'm still drooling at the thought of how good these were. The Jaffa truly captured the choc-orange flavouring without having either flavour dominate. The creme brûlée was a little on the ugly side to look at. A bit new born squished face. But all was forgiven after the first chomp into the doughy goodness. The cafe space here is within a warehouse zone. There's some great retro styling going on here. Beverage wise you can get brewed coffee, some cold drinks and some alcoholic drinks.

They are only open Fri and Sat 8am - 3pm (with Sunday being introduced soon) because they spend all week baking the ingredients - even the rubble and freckles are hand made. It's too die for. Five flavours alternating each week. Soft, Fluffy, Sweet and seriously yummy!! The donuts are made on site and you can see the bakers working their magic and smell the sweet aromas drifting from the kitchen. There is coffee available but you'll have to excuse my ignorance for not knowing exactly what brand. I made the wise choice to quit caffeine drinks some years back. I think it could be an Ethiopian brand. Nothing else for sale yet though just donuts and coffee. Whatever you do make sure you roll heads to get the coffee glaze with passionfruit curd and chocolate rubble because it will change your life, it appeared popular and was running out quickly. My advice is to be at the door by 8am. All flavours will be available and you'll be able to buy a stash. By the time we got there it was mid arvo and max purchase of two each. A big bunch of poor buggers behind us missed out. If you want to take a little rest and watch the rows of people pass in and out then just take a seat indoors at the many available tables. It still functions as a Milk Bar - you can still buy milk there, but it's probably not the place for your weekly shop. That said, they definitely do have the essentials - and they also stock a some great homemade take-away meals - and when I say homemade, they genuinely do seem homemade. I'm a big fan of the Rowena burger, which has caramelised onion just right. My only gripe with their breakfasts is they don't butter the bread - which seems to be to some people's taste, but not mine. The service can be variable. Very much depends on the people on the day - That said, it's always friendly. You just sometimes need to put up a smoke signal to get served. Also, they won't split bills, so if you've got a large group, be prepared to sort the maths out yourself. Out the back there are some longer tables and a sunny garden. You need to walk though the kitchen to get there - which initially feels a little weird, but rest assured it's common practice.
