I visited with my two sons, ages 13 and 14, and we all had an incredible time. The museum itself is impressive, well laid out, and packed with history, but what truly made the visit unforgettable was a volunteer named Pappy. He generously spent a long time giving us a guided tour, sharing stories, answering questions, and connecting the exhibits to real-world history in a way that completely captivated my boys. They especially loved seeing the aircraft up close, including the mini planes and, in particular, the F-4 Phantom. That one hit home for our family, as their grandfather flew an F-4 in Vietnam. Seeing that aircraft in person, while hearing knowledgeable and respectful commentary, was genuinely meaningful. This museum does an exceptional job of honoring history while keeping it engaging for younger visitors. If you have children, especially teens, or any interest in aviation or military history, this is a must-see. We left impressed, grateful, and already talking about coming back. Five stars without hesitation.

First order of business: secure a seat in their giant-screen IMAX theater. That screen is massive one of those experiences where the engines roar, the jets scream across the sky, and you feel like you're strapped into the cockpit yourself. It's the kind of show that makes you sit up a little straighter in your seat and remember why naval aviation has always been the sharp end of the spear. Now the museum itself shipmate, this place is the real deal. Founded back in 1962 by Rear Admiral Magruder H. Tuttle, it started small with just a handful of aircraft. Today it's a full-on aviation hangar of history with more than 150 restored aircraft from the Navy, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard spread across huge exhibit bays. My son and I spent hours there, and the best part for him was getting up close with the aircraft climbing into cockpits, checking out helicopters, and seeing the machines that once launched off carrier decks into the wild blue. Top highlights include the historic Curtiss NC-4 (the first aircraft to cross the Atlantic), Blue Angels jets hanging in formation overhead, and flight simulators that let you feel like you're launching off a carrier deck. Bottom line: if you've got even a drop of saltwater in your veins or a love for aviation, this place is squared away. Bring the kids, bring your curiosity, and be prepared to spend a full day walking through the proud history of naval aviation. We were lucky enough to get here right before the Government Shut-Down, Such a Beautiful Coast-Line bursting with views of the ocean and wildlife. Plenty of spots to stop and take it in, have a picnic, use the restrooms, take a quick dip (we did). The Park itself has the standard entrance fee which assists in the upkeep of the area, we have an annual pass so if traveling to a lot of parks in one year (highly recommend). We utilized the campground which was well-maintained, restrooms/showers were good and we tented, but used the electricity availability for my CPAP. The Campground did not realize what a night of loud snoring they were spared. Ask our fellow campers in Death Valley a couple summers ago- talk about stares in the morning. We did a couple hikes around the area, saw Eagles and a variety of wildlife. We were lucky enough to visit the Fort when Ranger Chris was doing a presentation. He has a passion and the ability to share the knowledge he has of the time-period, the fort and the people who built it. I thought it was one of the best that we have ever attended. He challenged the group to further explore the fort and find different items of interest. When we had difficulty finding one particular spot, Ranger Chris took the time to walk us to it, explain the significance and then continued a tour of that side of the fort. My wife and I both agreed that this was one of the best interactions we have had in our National Parks experience. What really impressed me was Ranger Chris and the entire staff enthusiasm and dedication despite the furlough hanging over their heads. As we know shortly after the Government shut-down, we missed out on a lot of parks we planned on visiting, but the memory of this Gulf Island adventure eased some of the disappointment.

It's also where they hold the graduation ceremonies for army warrant officers which is why I was there. A friend had completed the five week course and is now off to flight school. The museum is especially clean and well organized. There is plenty of safe parking and it's all well lit. The displays are incredible and well laid out. I learned a great deal about helicopters and their history in the few hours I spent there. I highly recommend stopping in if you love army aviation.

They do offer military and veteran discounts, since this is a military diving museum. I thought that was awesome. There are a lot of photo opportunities here. You can even go inside the sea lab. There is a 40 minute documentary you can watch and then walk around to see all the exhibits. Their gift shop is adorable too. I learned a lot from this. I didn't know the history of saturation diving or that the dive school is in Panama City beach now.

It is a small building but they have packed it with activities that seem to cover a wide age range. We went on a Monday so it was mostly small kids, but my fifth-grader spent three hours going through all the indoor and outdoor exhibits before we left for lunch. We sprang for the planetarium and it was a bit long for the small kids but mine was interested the whole time. We were impressed with the inflatable planetarium.
