Inside you can also see what the atom bomb looks like, numerous photos, letters, and all kinds of other memorabilia. It's a very cool place. It's a little outdated, but you don't pay to go inside, so it's kind of expected. I think if you were driving by, and you see it I would have 100% recommend. I wouldn't tell anybody to drive over 30 minutes and go out of their way to see it though. The airplanes and aircraft outside was definitely the coolest part.

They tell you once your out there to down load the national park service app (NPS) to get a guided tour... But it's not too easy. You need a good signal and to be able to down load the maps before you go.. Because inside the bunkers you will lose signal. Plus I didn't find the app intuitive so standing out in the hot sun trying to figure it out was a pain. Plan ahead! Walk back in time with immersive history.

They closed the bait shop/snack bar at the pier. The small museum near the pier is also closed. The campground store is closed. And that was the only place to get anything within a 20 minute drive of the campground. They spent a bunch of money to remove the electric power from the B and D campground loops. I assume the power to these was damaged in one of the hurricanes. So disconnecting the power would be a necessity. But why pull the wires out?

It's an incredible museum focusing on helicopters and the history of helicopters in army aviation. It's also where they hold the graduation ceremonies for army warrant officers which is why I was there. A friend had completed the five week course and is now off to flight school. The museum is especially clean and well organized. There is plenty of safe parking and it's all well lit. The displays are incredible and well laid out. I learned a great deal about helicopters and their history in the few hours I spent there. I highly recommend stopping in if you love army aviation.

I didn't know the history of saturation diving or that the dive school is in Panama City beach now.

We arranged ahead of time with a mutual friend who works on the base to show us around. We drove through much of the base, seeing people at work, families on playgrounds, and so many F-35s flying overhead. Up until this visit, I only saw the F-35 on TV or movies. Wow. There was a section of the base the public is typically not allowed we got to see. We needed special clearance to get in and - no pictures. All I can say is it had something to do with the B1 Bomber. They had a great memorial also. We stopped to walk through. It was a memorial for every war since planes were first used (WWI) and they did not forget the Korean War, either. This was a very moving experience. When we were through, we stopped briefly at the Air Force Museum on the base. Hundreds of early to recent planes were all around us. We only had a few minutes we could stay. We had a picture taken of us with a B1, and I got a couple of pictures of an SR-71 Blackbird. I did have a few more but my thumb was in them. (Oops.)

It is a small building but they have packed it with activities that seem to cover a wide age range. We went on a Monday so it was mostly small kids, but my fifth-grader spent three hours going through all the indoor and outdoor exhibits before we left for lunch. We sprang for the planetarium and it was a bit long for the small kids but mine was interested the whole time. We were impressed with the inflatable planetarium.
