Employee And Vet Incident…read more After Mims died giving birth, four of her six puppies also died while in the care of Ellie Cross, who was referred by Cairo Animal Hospital. Some deaths happened after Ellie took the puppies to a football game without my permission. She blamed genetics, but no tests were done. The two surviving puppies were returned dirty, malnourished, and smelling bad. Ellie was verbally abusive when I picked them up. I took the puppies to a vet for cleaning and care, then reported the incident to authorities. The lesson: know your caregiver personally. Although I was told Ellie Cross would be dismissed, she was still employed as of February 27, 2026. None of the veterinarians contacted me, so my husband and I decided to stop using their practice. We drove 3 1/2 hours each way, twice! We looked around for an actual animal hospital, and one that…read morewas reasonably priced that would do a 3rd eyelid removal for our pup that had cherry eye. We dropped her off at 8am. and had to wait until 1pm. for them to release her. We picked her up, and they were very disorganized and kept calling her by the wrong name. Her eyes looked terrible. We asked them if everything was alright. They told us that it was normal and everything would look better over the next couple of days and to keep her calm and keep the cone on her for a week. We did this and called a couple of times as well as sent pictures. We kept the cone on for two weeks. After investigating and talking to the vets, we found out that they did the incorrect surgery. After more digging, the vet admitted that they took the liberty of changing the procedure to do a tuck instead because they said that is what most people want. They did a terrible job, and both eyes "tucked" popped open. After a couple of months of healing, they agreed to conduct another surgery and remove the 3rd eyelids. We made the long drive again and had it done. They look terrible!!! She has big pockets and parts of the 3rd eyelid permanently showing. We consulted our regular vet that said she would need yet another procedure that may or may not correct this and that she would always have problems. Needless to say we aren't going back to this place. The vet even mentioned that it could be a malpractice suite. We aren't going that route but definitely felt like warning others to stay away. BEWARE!!!
