The parts that I encountered were step free but I'm not sure if the entire station is such. I was able to roll my spinner suitcase easily from the train, through the station and out to the tram. Signage looked good and easy to read. Lots of food and some retail shopping opportunities here. And in 2021, masks are required throughout the train system. Heinrich-Heine-Allee is part of the Stadtbahn where all lines of the Rhine-Ruhr Stadtbahn converge. It is between Tonhalle/Ehrenhof / Schadowstraße / Nordstraße and Steinstraße/Königsallee / Benrather Straße. The station consists of a mezzanine and two platform levels. The upper platform level has two island platforms serving four tracks, while the lower level has one island platform and two tracks. There is free transfer between all platforms inside the station. There is an illuminated sign indicating how long until the next train to arrive. There is no audible announcement. There is also a map and a timetable on the platform. I believe parts of it have been renovated recently and upgraded. There's a lovely larger bakery, a book shop, an ATM and a small Turkish fast food joint where you can grab a bite to eat. There's also an information desk out front. There's two entrances to the train station. One entrance takes you directly to the shopping area of Solingen. So you have a pharmacy, flower shop, supermarket and small clothing stores nearby. A train leaves for cologne about every 25-30 minutes so that's perfect for me.

There are a few shops/snack stands available so you can buy snacks for your ride as well as a very few retail stores - mostly lower end, cheap fashion accessory items. If you love Gummi candy, be aware they have a whole store of just that! There is a smaller Deutschebahn office here as well with both agents and kiosks to buy tickets.
