El Mirador was perched on a cliff to our right tempting us as we swam, so as we were finished with the beach for the day we decided to enjoy a late lunch there. The food was wonderful - I had the Menorca cod with peppers and potatoes, my partner had the grilled squid, and our daughter had grilled salmon. We also enjoyed the garlic bread, strawberry and avocado salad, and some wonderful ice cream desserts. El Mirador had wonderful views and was a great end to a perfect beach day. If we were on the island longer we definitely would have returned for dinner.

Overlooking the Harbor, we sipped the house tinto vino and let the delicious Menorcan breeze brush over our faces while warmed by the Spanish sun. We had the selection of cheeses and meats (local Menorcan cheese, chorizo, and sausage) sooo good! perfect compliment to the wines. We also enjoyed the mussels whihc were fresh, juicy, and very impressive. Generally, mussels are usually only act ass a vessel for which to consume whatever delicious broth they come in...and though the broth was tasty, it was deceptively simple. It was just a standard creamy buttery garlic sauce, which really allowed the plump, juicy mussels to shine. Delicate flavors, but warm and wonderful...we were really surprised at how much the mussels took on the flavor and texture of the creamy broth. Another simple yet fantastic treat we had was the tomato bread which is exactly what it sounds like: toasted bread topped with diced tomatoes. The tomatoes were seasoned simply with olive oil, salt, and pepper. Overall, very tasty and picturesque spot.

Obviously this area is dominated by the package holiday crowd but surely it's not all about eating English food in a hot location? Las Yucas was a welcome oasis among all the offerings of fish and chips and Yorkshire pudding and gravy you will find populating the main drag. Following Lauren's lead I also opted for the fillet steak and it really was a fabulous piece of meat. Cooked to perfection with that unmistakable BBQ charcoal flavour, it really was a cracking piece of steak. Someone else had the T bone, which came on its own mini BBQ grill, complete with charcoals and he also extolled the virtues of his meat. The vegetation selection available was good and both girls enjoyed their dishes. We all agreed that this had been our best meal on the island to date. On the final night we returned and they didn't disappoint. Once again the service was excellent and the food just as good as the first time around. I pigged out on a chateaubriand all to myself. It was served up exceptionally well, sliced up by the waiter before my very eyes. Once it was in front of me I struggled to even pay attention to anyone else's food but they all assure me it was really good. Based on my first visit I would have given them 4* but having had such good food and service in consecutive visits pushed me over the edge, they totally deserve all 5*s. I've eaten worse steak for two or three times the money in the UK. These guys are totally at one with the BBQ. BBQ ninjas if you will.

Enough of my lack of research on holiday destinations (in my defence, didn't hang around there much anyways). Directly along from my hotel, and therefore just off the main strip, sits Cafe Restaurante Las Yucas. It mainly specialises in tapas and BBQ, although it also offers a whole host of things in between. Because it's off the main strip it's missed by the majority a lot of the time which is a shame, although it seems to do well enough despite that. I ate here twice, my first night and my last, and both meals were absolutely fantastic. The first night I ordered fillet steak... now I've never ordered that in a restaurant previously due to being apprehensive about spending a whack of money and it not coming cooked properly...however this was A.M.A.Z.I.N.G. The huge bbq was just along the terrace from my table and I could watch the chef blithely throwing hunks of cow around in a fire like he was painting a masterpiece. And oh what a masterpiece. I've never had a better steak. If it hadn't been such a decent size I would have had 3. I had a few glasses of rioja to wash it down. Ordinarily I'm not a fan of rioja but the waitress seemed determined to convert me and let me try 4!! I may have now have joined the dark side (I don't remember a whole lot to be honest :P) The last night I did a wee tapas mixture, just standard fare really. I tried octopus for the first time..was worried it would be rubbery but it was lovely. Just the right amount of salt and chilli through it. Delicious. The sauce on the patatas bravas was the best I've tasted. Was tempted to just ask for a wee bowl of that sauce and some bread!! If you're ever in this neck of the woods I'd definitely check this wee place out, you won't regret it!
