It is just off Hwy 41, above the local fire station. The area is large. The tents are on the lower level and the cabins are on the higher level, on the top of the hill. Our superior (and more expensive) cabin had nice views over the surrounding hills and the 'wild' horses on a neighboring ranch. The cabin was really small - think 'Tiny Home'. A small sitting area, kitchenette, bathroom and bedroom. The tents use common bathrooms. We had a small out door area to sit. You can rent a gas tank for the outdoor fire pit. Free coffee at the office. It is pet friendly. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Even though the cabin is nice with AC and running hot water, the surroundings are rough and our little dog injured his foot on 'foxtail' grass. The only groceries, gas or food are in the town - a 1 mile drive away (not walkable).

This second time a year apart there was still construction and things being built so I do find it hard to justify the prices for the cabins if all the amenities are not available or closed.

I can see in summer that it may feel a little crowded as they are maximizing space to accommodate more guests. Bathrooms very clean and well set up for trash/ recycling etc. Hidden benefits were access to Cedar Lodge amenities with a small store for necessities, bar and restaurant, and a game room and indoor pool. Also, great if you are traveling with friends or family that want to stay in a nice lodge while you stay in the RV or camp. "Orlando" in the hotel registration is a great marketing asset for the compound as he is knowledgeable and very courteous, clearly wanting you to enjoy your stay. However, I did encounter a concerning issue: during our hike in Yosemite Valley, some of my property was stolen from my campsite. While I don't want to negatively impact the campground's reputation, I feel it's important for fellow campers to be aware of this. Even though the area feels safe, I highly recommend keeping your belongings secured and out of sight when you're away from your site. Overall, I enjoyed my time at Summerland Campground and would recommend it, but just exercise caution with your belongings.

We got to sit and relax in the river with the fresh mountain spring water running down hill. On this trip, we visited 14 national parks, and Yosemite National Park was a special stop because it brought back memories while also giving us a new perspective. This is not a full review of Yosemite because I have visited before, many years ago. During that visit, I spent time in Yosemite Valley, hiked several trails, and experienced the incredible beauty of the park more extensively. Yosemite Valley is one of those places that stays in your memory forever, with its enormous granite cliffs, waterfalls, forests, and iconic landmarks. This time, as part of our six week journey, we only had a few hours to spend in Yosemite while traveling from Mono Lake toward Death Valley. We entered from the eastern side of the park, and even that short visit was absolutely spectacular. The drive itself was an experience. Coming through the Sierra Nevada, surrounded by towering mountains, dramatic rock formations, and breathtaking scenery, reminded us why Yosemite is considered one of America's greatest national parks. Every turn of the road revealed another incredible view. Even with only a few hours, Yosemite had that same powerful effect: it makes you feel small in the best possible way. The scale of the granite cliffs, the beauty of the valleys, and the sense of being surrounded by ancient landscapes are simply unforgettable. Yosemite is one of those places that deserves more than one visit. It is a park where every season, every trail, and every entrance offers something different. Whether you are standing below El Capitan, watching waterfalls pour down the cliffs, hiking through the forests, or simply sitting quietly and taking in the views, Yosemite reminds you of the incredible power and beauty of nature. After staying for nine days we found out that you had to become an escapee's member and the cost was $49. To join for one year. The park refunded this in a free night credit. While staying here we met the park manager and took a tour after finding out they are a 55+ members park. After reviewing the park information and seeing what a beautiful park this was we decided to make this our home base. We travel to many places after retirement but found that we needed a place to hang out hat for Dr. appointments, and staying connected with our family in the Central Valley. We bought in and picked our site. The unique nature of living here is that the members here all volunteer to help keep cost down to run the park. This gave us a sense of ownership and community. We volunteer 3 days per week for approximately 4 hours per day and join in on special events to help set up or organize events that are for the members. It's not like having a job but more like going to hang out with folks that have the same interests. There is constantly an event going on weather you like to play cards, pool, dominoes, darts, working out , or outdoor activities like pickle ball or mini golf the fun is endless. This amazing place has beautiful views of the Sierra foothills and there's even a casino across the mountain. Becoming a member here has given us a place to call home in between our travels and our site remains ours when we're in the park. If you're thinking of becoming a full timer or if you're looking for a great place to glamp, this is the place!

The Wawona entrance to Yosemite and the Mariposa Grove of Giant Sequoias was a new to me area of…read morethe park, when I visited in Mid-June 2026. Without the reservation system this year, even a weekday brings lines at the entrance kiosk. It was about a 45 minute wait. But, once entering the park, the Mariposa Welcome Center parking area had ample parking. The grove's gateway is just a couple of minutes from the Wawona entrance where there's a gift shop, restrooms and the shuttle bus to the grove (only runs seasonally.) I found the shuttles to run efficiently, albeit crowded. However, unless you want to hike up a steep paved road and add 2 miles to your hike, they're the only way up to the grove, as private vehicles are not allowed to drive or park there (those with disabilty tags are the exception.) The lower grove was packed and features the popular and iconic trees such as the Grizzly Giant and Tunnel Tree. It was too chaotic to really enjoy fully, but I was on my way to Wawona Point and the upper grove, so didn't linger in the main area too long. Once past the Grizzly Giant loop, the crowds exponentially thinned out and the forest became peaceful. It's a beautiful area and has a decent length hike to the upper grove, where the Guardians Loop trail was the standout along with Wawona Point (featuring a scenic overlook of the Wawona area.) The upper trails reminded me of a shorter version of Sequoia National Park's "giant forest loop." The trails were well kept and featured an array of wildflowers, green meadows and of course the iconic sequoias. You can make a longer loop or out and back and see most of the area in a longer day hike. It's a quieter and beautiful area of Yosemite that gets overlooked in comparison to the touristy lower grove and the valley. It is about a 45-50 minute drive to connect back down to the valley so you can visit both in one day, but I decided to linger and take my time in the beautiful upper grove areas. Either way, Mariposa Grove is a worthwhile stop in your Yosemite itinerary

We had stayed in Oakhurst for the night, so this was a stop before going to Yosemite Valley. We had to park at the Mariposa Grove Welcome Plaza where the Visitor Center was and took the free shuttle to get to the start of all the trails. We saw some deer on the way! The giant sequoia trees were a magnificent sight to see, and the trails were nice and defined.

You'll see Upper Pines, and Lower Pines first then you'll finally make a left into the North Pines Campsite. Experience: This was by far the best campsite I've ever stayed at. Pictures do not do it justice. We had the best views of El Cap on one side and Half Dome on the other. Waking up to those views are indescribable and incomparable to any other National Park. Logistically, we had snagged the campsite from a friend of a friend who was unable to go anymore. All we had to do was make sure we had access to the reservation and a photo ID of the person who booked the site and we were good to go! We were walking distance from Curry Village which was so convenient. It was also really easy to access the Mist Trail, and Nevada Falls trail from here. Campground and bathrooms were very clean. I don't think I can camp anywhere else in the park ever again after being spoiled camping here. Tips: - Screenshot the reservation before you lose service. If you can't access it before you get to the park entrance they will not let you in. Also, have your confirmation number just incase as well. - If you can snag site 511, you'll have these epic views we had.

We had an amazing view of the water and the boat launch ramp was only like a 2 minute car ride from our site. Our campsite had a water faucet and electrical hookups. It was a beautiful site, the first night we were there it was really busy, and pretty noisy, but that's to be expected, as it was the weekend. The only reason it was a 4 star review and not a 5 star review is because the bathrooms/showers were absolutely disgusting. I would recommend bringing a portable toilet and a small hose to shower at the campsite.
