I was there around noon on a Thursday, so I don't know if the market is a daily or weekly event, but it does seem to be packed up and moved out by 3pm.

The vendors are terrific - there are hand-crafted toys, brushes, soap, herbs, olives, flowers...also several food vendors. Currywurst is a must-have! You'll see local goodies like honey, cheeses, breads & baked goods. There are also flowers, fruits, veggies & food stalls everywhere the eyes looks - colorful, fresh & one of Freiburg's "must-indulge" attractions for sure. We didn't know about this market & had just eaten a huge breakfast at our hotel, so there was no tasty treat indulgence however, we did go crazy at a particular stall selling local honey Blue Cornflower & Rapeseed Flower honeys were ours for the taking. Also tried an Oak Tree honey that was interesting as well & had we had the luggage space, I could have gone totally crazy as she had all kinds of honey products like soaps & candles in addition to outrageously scrumptious raw honey Farmers' stalls are piled high with fresh produce and the cheese stalls were too tempting w/ their local yet diverse selections. Food stalls see tourists & locals alike, lining up to buy meaty, grilled sausages or freshly baked rolls & sweet buns. My best advice to you is come early, come hungry, & bring lots of cash!

After an amazing early morning stroll around the Musegg Wall, we visited the Saturday morning…read moremarket. To say that the entire scene was picturesque would be an understatement. Cafes around the market were filled with people enjoying coffees, croissants, and conversation. Fruits, vegetables, cheeses, meats, olives, breads - you name it, and market goers had many choices. I had a long layover in Zurich and decided to go and explore the city…read more My husband and I got to this market randomly when we got off the train on the main station. I was so happy because the weather was cold so an indoor market was a perfect solution. The market is really nice and you get a sense of the Swiss tradition and offerings. It offers many kinds of souvenirs, scarves and gloves, wine and food. Lots of it! I ate at the airport before so wasn't hungry and regretted it. The market seemed to have many interesting local foods and the desserts were to die for! I definitely recommend going if you happen to visit Zurich.

I've finally found a good large farmer's market in Zürich…read more The farm stands range from wow-those-beets-just-came-out-of-the-ground to Wegmanns-style Italian oranges. Each stand's rules vary --- some are very hands-on, feel-the-fruit while others are strictly ask-and-point. Quality also seems to vary a fair amount --- but prices vary less. As with most farmer's markets, cash is easiest. Besides veggies, there usually two fish trucks, a few cheese / cured meat stands, and some smaller bakery stands. There's flowers, although I still don't see how Zürich can support this many florists. Not everything I've picked up at Helvetiamarkt has worked out --- but I finally have a source for farm-fresh kale ("Federkohl").
