I have to tell you about the DVD selection at the Riverview Library though. It is the best I have seen period. When I say that I mean they have an incredibly large collection that includes foreign films that you never heard of, a huge array of documentaries, and even a selection of some classic silents. Melies anybody? This is a very artsy and avant garde collection. Whoever is doing the selecting has very good taste. They also have a great selection of HBO series. I checked out full seasons of Deadwood and Boardwalk Empire for a buck for three weeks. Best deal in town.

It is easy to get into the parking lot. The staff is professional and earnest in their duties. I had a very nice time here with volunteers recently. I stopped by to pick up some books to take with me to a community health fair I was attending. The volunteers were very helpful in getting me to the children's section, so that, I could pick out age appropriate materials. They had a wide selection and all in very good shape. This library is a great place to look for a job, study or do interesting things. They have plenty of items going on for the community as well.

Anyways, I live in the area and we're pretty much at striking distance from this spot. Plenty of book selections to choose from. There's a very nice non-fiction spot for all the voracious readers. I happen to have gotten into some Manga. They do have a pretty ok selection. It's not a modern library, but it still is a proper library. The staff is really nice and everything is in its proper place. Well lit, super quiet and extremely well kept. I love it here and will continue to keep coming back. It was clean and there were no opioid addicts or other such folk in sight, also worthy of 4 stars. They hold a twice or year Friends of Library booksale which is much smaller than advertised, but cute, and offers a nice (and brief) window into the alternate reality that is Downriver. You can't enter the lot from Southfield Rd (you need to pull around back).

The Melvindale Library is easy to access. It is a simple matter to approach from the surrounding…read moreneighborhood or take a left or right at the corner of Allen Road and Gough Street. There are tasteful murals along the back wall of the library featuring large Cardinal Birds. A welcome site in any season and especially in wintertime. Just behind the library is a 'Reading Park' with a large gazebo, several benches and a lawn under shade trees. Though there is no play set here it is a nice place to take children to play ball or read books. The library itself is on the small side but is packed with books. The librarians are very helpful and engaged. They have computer systems that are open to the public. You just need to sign up to use them.
