Actually if the previous reviewer had any clue he/she would know that Backstreet doesn't even have a deep fryer. I personally know people who have worked there and the food is prepared more from scratch than you may think. It is certainly not frozen to fried. The pizza is considered by many to be very good. I highly recommend the "Jamie Sandwich" (a sandwich made with pizza crusts instead of bread and your choice of toppings). As for the beer, yes the tap beer probably leaves a bit to be desired but it is rare to find a place that is any different. For that reason I choose to avoid tap beer no matter where I go. The atmosphere may be a little redneckish (although most of them are students who many originate from Calgary) but this is Southern Alberta we are talking about. If you want to find a redneck bar there are far worse places you can go. Gabrielle P. you may want us all to believe that despite its perceived shortcomings you really do have a soft spot for this establishment. However, it seems to me that you are out of touch with what makes this place and this country special. If you are originally from Lethbridge shame on you. Had to try the Famous Jamie Sandwich, and I'm glad I did! It comes with a wide selection of fillings, so I let the staff pick. Just told them what I did not want. Paired with a beer and salad was a great dinner. Don't be put of by the outside, it was a noisy and friendly place. Highly recommended! read more

Backstreet has all the makings of a solid albeit run of the mill sports bar, with one heck of an ace up their sleeve: The Jamie Sandwich. First things first - The Backstreet is a low-lit pub-like atmosphere, with larger tables for group gatherings, some booths for a bit more privacy, various sports team jerseys hanging from the ceiling, a couple pool tables and enough yet not redonkulous amount of TV's for watching the game. Doesn't sound like anything overly special, right? That is, until you you take a full, fresh-baked pizza, cut it into quarters and make sandwiches out of the pieces with mayo, (they don't call it "aioli" in Lethbridge yet,) lettuce and tomato in between! Ladies and gentleman, you've got yourselves a Jamie Sandwich and it's delicious. Why is no one else doing this? In all the places in all the world, The Backstreet is the only place that has come up with the crazy idea to make a sandwich but use pizza as the bread. It's simple! And I mean if sandwiches are good with boring ol' bread on the outside, just imagine what happens when you spice it up with some fresh slices o' 'za instead. Legend. In all honesty, will it be the most mind blowingly awesome culinary creation you've ever shoved in your face? I doubt it, but just be careful what you say. Home of the epic Jamie sandwich! This is a pretty chill place. They have pool tables, good drinks and an inside out pizza sandwich which is legendary for good reason. This place is a bit of a hidden gem, and I hear that it's a favourite spot for locals. Nothing fancy- but a great place to hang out with friends and get some delicious food. read more

Going to Backstreet for a Jamie is a milestone of the student experience in Lethbridge! Don't be put off by the dive-y atmosphere, the staff is fantastic and the menu is unique since everything is baked instead of deep fried. I absolutely recommend the Sailor Jerry's lemonade. read more

We've been to BackStreet Pub & Pizza for dinner last night. Backstreet Pub & Pizza is located on Laval Blvd West, Lethbridge, which is 10 mins drive from our house. It's a medium size PUB. People can eat food, watch TV, and play pools in this place, which is very cool. We arrived the Pub around 6:30pm. It was not busy since it's a weekday ?! The pub looks very fancy. You can see the different Hockey Team Shirts on the Wall for decoration. I guess this place will be really busy during the Hockey Season. We found a seat quickly and waited for our server to come. After 1 or 2 mins waiting, our server came to us. She was friendly and nice. We ordered some drinks first and they came very fast. Then, we've ordered two Backstreet Supreme Sandwich (mixed jalapeno ranch & marinara sauce, bacon, feta, jalapenos, mozza) with different toppings and salads for dinner. Backstreet Supreme Sandwich has the same ingredients as the Pizza. They just folded pizza into the sandwich, which is a great idea and design for the sandwich. Great Job! Besides the regular sauces on the sandwich, people can also add three different toppings from the list (anchovies, back bacon, black olives, cheddar, chicken, feta cheese, fresh tomatoes, green onions, green peppers, ground beef, ham, hot peppers, italian sausage, jalapenos, jalapeno ranch sauce, mozza, mushrooms, onions, pepperoni, pineapple, salami, shrimp, spicy beef, spicy sauce, strip bacon, tropical sauce), which will give different flavors to the sandwich. My boyfriend choose cheddar, pineapple, and italian sausage. Mine was different from him and I had cheddar, ground beef and pineapple. The food came fast. The sandwich is very fresh and well cooked. They were very tasty and large size. We love them. I couldn't finish all sandwiches by myself. We have Green Salad and Caser Salad one each. The vegetable is fresh and the salad dressing is great too. The prices of the food are around $13.00 per sandwich, which not expensive. Honestly I love this place. I live about 10 minutes walking from here, and the food is phenomenal, my go to is either the nachos or the mushroom Swiss burger. Their boneless ribs are great, and their Long Island iced tea is amazing. They make a great Jager bomb, and jack and coke is standard for me, but if I would have to travel into town for supper, this is where I'd go, it's loud during the weekends but it's just people having a good time read more

After reading such positive reviews in different places, myself, my wife and brother in law decided to stop by on our way through Lethbridge and pick up the Jamie Sandwich that everyone has been raving about. For starters, the outside was an eight inch pizza shell that was very chewy and tasted like it was a microwavable instant product. The lettuce that was used was brown, slimy and inedible, the cheese was flavorless, and the bacon was simply bacon bits sprinkled on. The only thing I could taste after peeling out the lettuce were the olives that we chose as a topping. It left a thick, oily coating in the mouth and throat which was difficult to get rid of. This was the most awful thing I have ever eaten. As for the environment, it feels like walking into a bad movie, this is not a place I would feel comfortable sending a female into by herself. It was very dirty inside, people were literally sticking to their seats when they stood up due to uncleaned spills. It was so dirty that we refused to sit down and wait for the sandwiches to be made, and instead sat in the car outside. From what we could see, the kitchen was probably the cleanest area in the building. The price needs improvement for the quality of the food you receive. I could easily go elsewhere and order a pizza with the exact same toppings, have those toppings be fresh, fold the pizza over, cut it in half, and pay less for something that I'll actually enjoy eating. I'll never be setting foot in this place again. read more
