I appreciate the friendliness of the technicians and veterinarians and the services offered for my pets. The only thing that's has given me the "ick" bringing my animals in for vet care is the additional charges. charges to pay with your credit card are $4.50. not a big deal. Except it's not based off of the number of transactions, but the numbers of pets you've brought in. so even though my card gets swipped once, I pay more "processing fees" if I've brought in multiple pets. Again, not a huge issue... but then you take into account the "pharmacy fee", which is again based on how many pets you've brought in. Purchase 6 months of nexgard for 3 dogs (2 are the same size) and you are hit with a $45 pharmacy fee per dog for them to take a box off a shelf and hand it to you. I could understand this fee if pills needed to be counted and/or cut for a certain prescription, but just to pull a box of preventative off the shelf is insane. at least warn the owner ahead of time and offer to write a prescription instead. I didn't notice this until after 2 visits there and was mad to discover I've payed $300 of "pharmacy fees" in 2 visits just for preventative for my dogs and cats. won't make that mistake again. read more

My dachshund dogs have been going to these vets since they were born . They are now 11/2 years old. They had all there well visits , vaccinations, were sprayed.We have spent thousands at this vets . That being said , my one dog got sick on Wednesday night . She had vomited . Early Thursday she had blood in her stool . I called immediately and they told me they had no openings on Thursday or Friday to see her . I did explain I was going to Italy on Sat for a trip I planned 1 year ago . They told me they were booked solid and couldn't see her , take her somewhere else . Really ! i called Barton Heights and they saw my dog at that same day . It was colitis. They gave me medication and she is 100 percent better today. Just beware , these vets only cater to well visits . If your dog gets sick they won't see them. read more

My dog, previously diagnosed with Lyme, prior to visiting, was treated for a collapsing trachea. Upon doctor recommendation the dog had an invasive urinalysis at which time the pigmentation of his belly turned purple immediately. The pics sent via email, were not received and never addressed with me after being resent. 3 months later, the day he died, the receptionist, 'Doctor' Gina interrupted every sentence I attempted & then deemed me as combative when I called from work. My mother who was watching my dog had also called, of which I was unaware & was told by 'Doctor' Gina that my finances were a concern as far as treatment. I owe them nothing & never carried a balance or missed an appointment that I did not reschedule prior. After work, I took my dog to the Emergency Animal Hospital in Wilkes Barre to where I paid close to $500 only to be told that my dog had anemia & he was dead within 24 hours. 'Doctor' Gina, the receptionist, not only answers the phone & schedules appointments, she also determines whether your pet receives care or not; based on if she likes you. So make sure you are not going to or calling this facility if you have love, fear, concern, compassion or empathy; basically any emotional ties to your pet bc you may also be deemed combative simply for caring whether he/she lives or dies. read more

I normally do not like to write reviews, but for this situation it needs to be said. I took my service cat to them for an infection in her ear. The first time they were wonderful. I came back for the follow up appointment today and they were nice UNTIL they mentioned they wanted to give her vaccines. I explained that I did not have the money for them today, Dr. Kaleigh Flock explained about my cat needing the rabies vaccine again. I reiterated that I do not have the money today for it today, I did not outright say no to the rabies vaccine, I only said I do not have the money for it today.. Immediately after I finished that sentence the staff began to have an attitude with me about it and walked out of the room. It was like a switch came on because I didn't have more money to give them. I understand this field is stressful, and I understand its still a business, but to give a customer an attitude for not having extra money is not cause for an attitude. There were several other options that could have been talked about, like coming back another time, or offering a payment plan, or anything else. Not have an attitude and walk out. When I went out to pay for my bill, I explained to the front desk I didn't appreciate the attitude and all she did was basically reiterate what the doctor said and tried to make me feel bad about the situation. I was considering making them my full time vet until they showed how greedy and non-understanding they truly are. So with that I cannot in good faith recommend them to anyone nor will I go back there again unless someone higher up speaks to me about this situation. read more

For some unknown reason, my gentle Lab was labeled as a dangerous dog??? He's known nothing but love his whole life, and takes treats from your hand so gently that he wouldn't even crack an egg. BUT something happened behind closed doors, and now he supposedly NEEDS a heavy tranquilizer for routine visits. So, a visit was scheduled, but his meds were misplaced; sitting in a car that was at the repair shop. We tried to get a refill ahead of time, but the telephone system was inoperative in Back Mountain. Ok, we rushed to the vet so he can get his meds 45 minutes ahead of scheduled appointment. Well, that was impossible according to the staff and doctor...because it supposedly takes 2-3 HOURS to "get into his system". Knowing this was incorrect, and one hour would give the desired effect, I asked if they could just try a dose and slow walk his appointment for an hour. The doctor talked down to me like I was 9 years old, which was a tough pill to swallow, considering my own degree and knowledge of the subject. Nope, no treatment for my dog that day. I mean, do they really think that the level of medicine goes from 0% to 100% at the tick of a clock??? No, if they are trained in medicine, they understand that. It was their arrogant attitude that kept them from listening to my request to just treat him then, and see if he gave them any problems, which is VERY unlikely. They didn't listen, and made up their minds to force their decision upon us, despite it being irrational and punitive. They simply wanted us to suffer to "teach us a lesson". My own opinion is that this place being staffed 100% by females led to a pejorative set of actions against us two males. I know how that sounds, but....how often do women you know change their minds based on facts? This group certainly will not, and I strongly feel it affected their professional conduct in this case, and raised more than enough doubt in my mind if it would happen again in a more serious set of circumstances. I'm not putting my dog at risk over some ego-tripping veterinarian. When I stated my case, and was shot down, and basically insulted, I said "I'm just going to leave", the doctor barked out..."where do you want the records sent?" As-if they were trying to be professional and check all the boxes....no, it was just another jab at us, again....an ego play and VERY UNprofessional. So, I get home and look up the drug in a reference manual. Guess what, it says the effects take 1-2 hours, not the 2-3 the vet kept saying. My dog could have easily been treated that day, franky even without meds. Do you think under ANY circumstances the "doctor" would admit she was wrong? Nope, not a chance, especially after seeing the results of the hormone surge she experienced from me simply stating my case. Do you think we will return to Back Mountain Veterinary Hospital...? Not a chance, except to collect an apology....like that's going to happen. Their ego and emotional insecurity won't allow it. They are the ones needing a tranquilizer and professional help. read more

At first the staff is friendly, but, only if you just agree with them. So if you can act stupid as you know nothing about pets, they can talk down to the best of pet owners without a care! I asked a simple favor for my pet that I love - and found they do not love animals, just money that they know how to surgically remove. The smart people there need communication skills and understanding customer service - not patronizing lip service. An expensive lesson I should have trusted my senses. After a horrible experience with Northeast Veterinary in Plains I was lucky enough to find Back Mountain. They treated my pet like it was their own. Just like the other reviews the staff was amazing, warm and caring. The vet spent as much time as was needed to test and answer all my questions. Simply the best. read more

Absolutely DO NOT bring any rabbits here!!! My rabbit Bun Bun was perfectly healthy and happy before her spay surgery with Dr. Morris and died 3 days later. After Bun's surgery the vet tech informed us that Bun needed to eat 24 hours after surgery or to contact them immediately. The following day, I reached out to the office at 12, and 3pm, and each time informed the office that she had not eaten and needed to speak to the vet. I was told they would call me back. My calls were not returned, until I called again at 530 and demanded to speak to someone. Dr. Bennett told us to syringe feed Bun critical care or a mix of fruits and veggies. Critical care was not available at ANY pet store. Even after syringe feeding fruits and veggies, Bun appeared to be seizing at 6pm. The office was closed and the voice recording recommended 24 hour hospitals that did NOT take rabbits. My family stayed up all night feeding bun every three hours to try to prevent GI stasis. In the morning we took Bun to the office, and waited over an hour to be seen after expressing SERIOUS concerns that she was not okay. Dr. Bennett told us she was looking great but was just being stubborn eating. After giving her shots to induce eating we took Bun home and fed her critical care every 4 hours. Bun looked better and ate small amounts of on her own. Bun passed away two days later. The vets had no explanation for her death. Back mountain did NOT care enough call back in that 24 hour period despite our concerns, provide information about how to prevent GI stasis or where to find medication, or provide an after hours vet that was so clearly needed. This office was not equipped to provide proper care for rabbits. Bun was an amazing happy animal that deserved SO much better than how she was treated here. read more

I hate to leave such a negative review. The staff at Back Mountain Vet Hospital has always been very friendly. My Boston Terrier, Monroe, had luxating patellar surgery with Dr. Cooley. After 9 weeks of the pup doing phenomenal with physical therapy, we went in for the scheduled x-ray. The news was not good. The poor pup's patellar tendon was not in place once again. My wife and I are beyond devastated. Monroe didn't even make it out of the recovery process. That was 9 weeks in a cage and bubblewrapped for nothing. I'm not entirely sure why her first x-ray would be scheduled after a long 9 weeks. My wife and and I are highly disappointed and heart broken. read more

Amazing staff. They have taken care of my boxer and pug and siamese cat. A few years back I was 19 and a full time college student without a car and my cat had a blood clot dislodge form his heart and travel thru his arteries to the split at the tail. His whole back end lost blood flow and went into rigor mortis. I was hysterical. I knew he would have to be put down. The only option was a $4000 shot to try and use the clot, but there was no guarantee his organs would continue to work, or if he'd be able to walk.... I was hysterical. I left with my kitty in a little box... the girls all cried with me..... they never sent me a bill. When I called i was told it was taken care of. Such wonderful people n staff. DO NOT TAKE YOUR ANIMALS TO BACK MOUNTAIN VET IN DALLAS. We originally went to them for Max's (mydog) pad that got cut, on September 17th. If you dont know where a dogs pad is, it's under the dogs foot (they walk on it). They told us after 2 weeks he would be heeled (WE HAD 10 total FOLLOW UP VET VISITS). At the 2rd or 3rd visit they told us his dew claw was pushed into his leg because we dont keep him still (we carried max everytime he had to go in the car, pee, ect. and cj took off work to keep him still throughout the day). The next visit they said everything was looking really good and the wrap should come off the next time we are in. Then fast forward to Monday (October 15th) vet visit, he still had the wrap on and was sent home limping. We called the vet and told them, which they said they had wrapped his wrap too tight, and if he is limping the next day bring him in. Well next day comes, we go back, and they send him home without the wrap and his dew claw half falling off, infected, and cut into his arm. We originally went for a cut pad and now we have a dog worse than what we went for. I asked for a partial reimbursement(not even a full reimbursement), just so I could take him to a new vet, to fix his dew claw, that they messed up.They said no and claimed it a simple sore from being wrapped. read more

I have had an amazing experience with you but I recommended you to a friend and she brought her big dog there and was treated horribly. I'm embarrassed to have recommended you to her and she was stuck with Dr. Phillips who treated her terribly and was awful to her dog and your excuse was that dr. Phillips has horrible bed side manner and doesn't like big dogs.....then why is he a vet and even given a job in the first place. My friend left so upset and will never be going back. I'm happy to hear that the vet techs and front desk were amazing like they were for me but if you go to this vet make sure you don't have Dr. Phillips. All the other vets are great and super nice! read more

The past 2 years service has deteriorated. On 5 occasions my dog needed to see a Vet ASAP...Back Mt Vet Hospital wouldn't see him even though it was during office hours, was told to take him to the ER because they had no appointments available...I thought during an emergency that's what your Vet was for?? The final straw came when I was 8 minutes late for my dog's appointment...I had to call from the parking lot because of covid rules and was told my appointment was cancelled because of being 8 minutes late...the staff member who told me this was rude, condescending and disrespectful. I've since learned of others who also had this happen to. After being a loyal client for 20+ years and having spent countless hours waiting for the Vet plus not to mention all the money I spent there, to be treated like this and dismissed like a child was infuriating. Needless to say I found a new Vet. Very disappointed this place has turned into assembly line medicine. read more

The staff of Back Mountain Veterinary Hospital are outstanding! They took care of our Standard Poodle, Mio for over 13 years, as well as our birds and guinea pigs. They were always caring and very skilled. When Mio was 6 years old and developed pancreatitis, they nursed him back to health. Later, they treated him for a cancerous growth. When the end came, they eased his passing and comforted our family greatly. I would recommend them to anyone who cares about their pets. read more

I have 4 dogs and have been a patient at Back Mountain vet for a few years. I have always had good experiences until recently. My dog ended up getting sick. I called back mountain to see if they can see him. They told me that they don't have time and to go to NE Vet in Plains. We ended up taking him to the hospital and we were informed that he would need an urgent ultrasound (Plains couldn't do it because their Dr. that performs them was off for the holidays). I was told that Back Mountain performs ultrasounds, so I called them again and was told that they don't have any appointments. I begged them to squeeze him in and they wouldn't. I strongly believe that you should make time for your established patients, even if that means staying late. I called Valley Central Animal Hospital in Allentown and they were so accommodating and the doctor even got on the phone to tell me that he is going to squeeze my dog in. Needless to say, they just lost 4 patients. If your animal is a patient of theirs, don't plan on getting an appointment if your animal is sick at the last minute. read more
