I live in Flandreau, home of Doug and Cheryl Austreim, and I've been a loyal customer for 12 years…read moreor so. I was working in my yard, trimming some bushes and pulling weeds when Austreim's truck No. 39 pulled up. I was filling my wheelbarrow from the street, where I had raked my cut branches and leaves, for easy pick up. The truck blocked my back driveway, the driver got out after a couple minutes in the cab, it looked like he was on his phone. He drug his application hose to the north side of my property and started spraying my yard. I had a garden hose out with a tractor sprinkler in the back yard, which I got out of his way. My back yard is pretty big and he got about half way to my house when we passed each other as I was on my way to dump my wheelbarrow of yard waste. Not a peep out of him. As I was in flip flops, shorts and a tank top, I went back to where I was working on the east side of my property, via the west side of my house, so as to avoid walking in the wet grass where he had just sprayed. I could smell the drift of the yard application as there was a light north breeze. He started spraying just a few feet north of where I was working and I tried to get his attention by yelling "HEY" once, then twice, then a third time. He removed an ear bud from one ear and said, "You don't have to yell." I asked him not to spray where I was still working after I responded with I tried to get your attention three times. He said he was just trying to do his job, which I interpreted as, "get out of my way!" He was going to continue to spray my yard where I told him I didn't want him to, when I told him to leave. He was a rude little prick and acted like me working in my own yard was a huge inconvenience to him. He wouldn't leave so I went to get my cell phone in the house and told him I was calling the cops. I called Austreims' Brookings office instead and reported the incident to a woman on the line. I am done with them! Why can't I give zero stars?

This is my third time I've been too Norms' Greenhouse & Nursery. I don't get here too much since…read moreits a bit of a drive from Watertown, but each time I come I thoroughly enjoy the visits. They have such a large and varied assortment of trees, which I thoroughly enjoy seeing. They usually carry are larger choice of trees than what I see there in Watertown. What I also enjoy is chopping it up with the employees here. I know my trees pretty well and they also understand the species, and sub-species; which ones are grafted, spliced, new subspecies and so forth. They also understand which ones handle sub-optimal conditions, which allows for better choice for choosing which trees. What's also a big adder in the decision making process is they also will work with you to throw in some meaningful discounts. All in all, I plan on returning more often and can't wait to see what's new for that season for tree planting.

Highly recommend. I have had this company do a few projects for me. Always honest and open about…read morepricing. The first project they completed for me were windows that were installed incorrectly several years prior. Due to incorrect installation they leaked and wood had been ruined. J Shepherd Construction removed the windows, repaired the rotten wood damage, made trim to match what I had, and completed the sheet rock repairs. They didn't price gouge me like the other guys, and when something came up that more issues were discovered, I received a call and photos right away. They clearly explained my options and let me make the decision. The 2nd project I called them on was a project another contractor started and I had to call off before it was completed. The other contractor just kept running up the bill. Everyday it went up more and more. Finally I threw in the towel. The only solution they gave me was to sheet rock my entire 2nd floor. I called J Shepherd Construction and explained my situation. He came and took a look. He quoted me what it would take to do what I wanted done. The disaster I had was with my old house plaster and lathe. I had the windows replaced at this property and some of the plaster and lathe had pulled away. I was offered options. On the option I decided, he stayed at exactly what he quoted me. I am actually pretty sure it was less than I expected due to him having to run all the way to Menards (30 minutes from my house) because the last contractor didn't have enough material for the job they had me pay them for. I will forever be thankful and continue to use this company. I am happy I was referred. They will not disappoint.

All that was needed was a $25 part, thus saving $100's of dollars. Good experience. The tech who serviced the furnace found a problem. I contacted Perrys Electric about installing a mini split system in my house. They came to look at…read moremy property, we come up with a basic plan and they gave me a quote. Once I accepted their quote they were able to order the equipment and start the install. The equipment took about two weeks to arrive and they were able to start the installation process right away. The overall time it took them to install the mini split system, which consisted of the outdoor unit and three indoor units, was three days. I was very surprised at how quick the equipment came in and how fast they were able to get it installed. The quality of the installation was excellent and they were able to run and install everything the way I envisioned. They also cleaned up very well after themselves. All the technicians were very knowledgeable about the system and were able to answer any questions that I asked them. The only negative thing I have to say about them is that they were not the best at keeping the customer up to date or giving them information about the system without the customer having to ask for it themselves. The negative comment is a personal one that I felt, but might not matter for other customers. I am just a person that likes to know what is going on and how to take care of proper maintenance tasks, so I am always asking questions. As long as the customer comes up with all questions beforehand to ask them about the system, then there will be no issue at all as they are extremely knowledgeable about their work. Overall I would give them 4.5 stars due to the lack of information given to me without having to ask for it. Going off of their installation alone gives them 5 stars and I would recommend them to anyone.
