I scheduled an appointment specifically for a saline ultrasound after confirming multiple times with the office that this procedure would be performed. The order from my specialist was for evaluation related to painful periods. Timing was critical because it was the last day in my cycle that the SHG could be completed. I called ahead, emailed, and sent over the specialist's order, and I was reassured that the appointment was confirmed and that Dr. Navi was aware. I had also emailed my specialist's order well in advance and the office verified my insurance prior to the visit, so I had every reason to expect that the procedure and billing would be handled appropriately based on that information. When I arrived, the Dr. Navi initially stated the visit was "just a consult," which directly contradicted what had already been confirmed multiple times. When I clarified that the visit had been scheduled for a saline ultrasound, Dr. Navi did not initially acknowledge this until I referenced the email confirmations I had with the front desk showing that the procedure had been confirmed in advance. Only after I pointed this out did the visit proceed as originally scheduled. Given that the timing was cycle-dependent and critical, this created unnecessary stress and concern. The appointment also started significantly late. After I mentioned that I am under the care of an out-of-state reproductive endocrinologist, the conversation abruptly shifted to billing concerns. I was warned by Dr. Navi that insurance "might not cover" the procedure due to infertility. This was only brought up after I was already in the exam room, even though the diagnosis code on the order was for painful periods. My insurance has since finalized the claim and shows I owe $10. However, the office billed me $551 and submitted duplicate claims. I was also told a transabdominal ultrasound was done and billed for, I did not receive that service. The procedure performed was for a saline ultrasound requiring transvaginal ultrasound approach. When I called their office, I was told insurance did not pay, which directly contradicted my finalized EOB. A Blue Shield claims representative stayed on the phone with me for nearly 2 hours trying to reach the office's billing department. During that time, the billing department repeatedly avoided coming to the line and asked us to call back later. After involving my insurance, my patient portal access was disabled without notice. Their office also requires a credit card authorization allowing them to charge any "patient responsibility" they determine, which is concerning given the discrepancy. During portal enrollment, I noticed there was a pre-selected arbitration agreement included as part of the onboarding. Since arbitration agreements are optional in California, I sent a message through the patient portal within the stated timeframe to notify them that I was opting out. I also confirmed this with the front office, who acknowledged my message. I called earlier today 3/20 and spoke with Britney, I was told verbally my balance is now $0, but they would not provide written confirmation, which is odd. As an in-network provider, billing beyond the insurance-determined patient responsibility raises serious concerns. Patients deserve transparency and ethical billing practices. This experience felt financially manipulative and left me feeling pressured rather than supported. After this experience, I reviewed other patient feedback and noticed similar concerns about billing practices. Based on what I experienced, those concerns appear valid. If you see this provider, review your EOB carefully and do not assume the bill you receive matches what your insurance actually determined. Be careful with this office and provider. Such a horrible experience, I would never come back to this doctor or office nor would I recommend them to family or friends.
