This is Acapulco's best kept secret, seriously. When I saw the place I braced for an outrageous…read morebill and as in most fancy looking restaurants in tourist places I didn't have huge expectations about the food. Luckily I can tell you now that I had one of the BEST MEALS I've had in Acapulco, and the prices where very reasonable, way lower than other similar restaurants. The menu has an eclectic mix of Mexican local dishes as well as international cuisine. My favorite was the "Montadito" and the tuna in Chile Ancho sauce. But I did try other items ordered by friends a loved those too!

I had visited this restaurant many times in my life and in many cities (Mexico City and Cancun), it…read morehas been one of my favorite since times I can't remember. It is with great disappointment I have to write this review. First the menu was reduced, the prices skyrocket to new levels (never seen by me before, even after inflation), They think that by adding 24K gold leaves to "everything" gives them the right to charge whatever they want. Newsflash: the gold does not add flavor or quality to the food. It just something that locals"drug lords" or narcos need to feel success. Which makes me wonder what kind of patrons are they having in "Acapulco?!". Don't answer, it's obvious. The dinner started strong with the hose bread which was the only consistent food item in the evening (with other restaurants of the same brand). Then the starters arrived: the carpaccio was dry (refrigerated too long), the meet cold and unsalted. The artichoke dip was supposed to have crab meat on it... never find a single piece of it, and again unsalted. Then we skipped the meat, because there is no reason to pay 100 USD (equivalente) for 250g of prime meat. They really are out of range here. But still ask for the prime burger. The meat was chewy, not and easy bite (too thick and uneven). The bun does not hold and get wet and soggy with the sauces pretty fast, and the meat had a funny tasting flavor. At the beginning I thought it was dry aged, but I asked and It was not ( just hopping not to get sick). We skipped the dessert because, in addition to be stuffed, they eliminate the greatest single item (the chocolate cake) from their menu. So, in summary, if you can choose, choose something else.

If anybody fancies getting their pool on (or being a little fresa and playing a game of billiards)…read moreI really recommend Billar Monaco...... It's a friggin awesome sports bar/pool joint, with an amazing jukebox selection (which is dirt cheap and has every 80s 90s 00s US/UK song you can think of, in addition to Spanish language hits). There's a ton of tables to playoff, the beer is ice cold and cheaper than any bar I've been to, and there's a huge projector screen that shows footie games/boxing matches and the Great British Bake-Off (just kidding on the last one....jaja) It's in a cool and safe area of Progreso, very close to the huge and really interesting market which is worth a visit on its own, and a block away from La Costera, and it literally seems to never shut. Like, never. I SWEAR I am not being paid or coerced or forced to write this review, I just want to share the joy that is a super cool, really fun pool hall/ sports bar with you guys, because it took me literally a year of living in Acapulco before I found one, and as an ex-Venice Beacher, and Londoner I really do love me some pool. Oh, also, one of the members of the family that owns it, Antonio, is there pretty much 24-7, and he's a total sweetheart, plus he speaks fluent English. So yeah, give it a visit, it's so worth it. I'm in Oaxaca right now or I would take you for every peso you have with my Paul Newman hustler-like skills, so count yourself lucky. It's based upstairs so you need to look out for the sign, then walk up the little flight of stairs, but the address is: Calle Tabasco 200 (just before the corner of Bernal Díaz, where the OXXO is.) If you are reading this then I'm assuming you're looking for things to do in Acapulco, and I'm assuming you've already realized the media bullshit about how dangerous it is there is exactly that--bullshit. And the same is to be said about Progreso. The area gets a really bad rap in tourist books etc. and yeah, sure, there are certain parts where I would be more aware of my surroundings when walking around late at night, but it's every bit as safe as London--especially the area where Billar Monaco is, plus there are always taxis parked outside the OXXO and you can walk a block to La Costera and jump on one of the millions of buses that go by every minute, driven by meth-fuelled teenage boys.....dude, it's Acapulco. (I got on one of the busses on a Monday lunchtime the other day and they were playing FULL BLAST over the speaker system "Short Dick Man" by Gillette....I swear to God......it was like being at the Ministry of Sound, circa 1994.)
