Do not use these people!!!! Worst experience! Took our money then never filed the documents with the court for months. When we ask about our case filings, they lied to our face repeatedly. We needed a legal name change and conservatorship. They charged us over $1200 and did nothing. After pushing and pushing they finally filed our case with the court. We arrived at the court date to have the court appointed lawyer and Juvenile court judge tell us the paperwork was done incorrectly. To be able to keep our time with the judge ( we waited months) we ran to the court self-help area to fix the documents. Well it's been over 2 years now and I'm still dealing with problems done by this place!! Save your money and go to the courts self help center. It will save you money and headaches!! Because this place just adds to them. Also the constant bigoted comments by the owner were atrocious!! She assumes all white people agree with her ugly racist point of views. Just awful!!! read more

After my mother passed away, my sister and I went to have a Living Trust drawn up for me and updated my sister's. My mother had hers done there many years ago; thus we went there to do my living trust and update my sister's in accordance with my mother's trust. By The People did a great job for mom. Marian and I sat down to do the preliminary stuff--filling out the necessary information so that she could do the draft first. The entire process went well because of Marian's experience and professionalism. The assistant Kelsey was also very helpful throughout the entire process. I am so disappointed and sad to write this negative review. I have used Marian, By The People, for years when she was in Chatsworth and she was always reliable. I contacted her 4 months ago with news that I was having surgery and had very important amendments that I needed before my surgery. I explained how keeping my family protected in case something happened to me was top priority. Marian called me back, told me not to worry and could I please send her my amendments by e-mail and she would get started immediately. I followed up by e-mail to see if there were any questions. She said no and the changes were easy. Said please give me a few days and I will send everything back for your review and approval. 2 months later no documents etc. I called every day during the first month with no response and only got voicemail. I was able to reach her once and she apologized stating there was illness in her family. She said she was back now and would have everything in a few days. 2 months later, nothing. Again no callbacks, No e-mails, no nothing. I asked on Voicemail for my copy of my truest that she has from the last time she had worked with me. NOTHING!!!!! I don't know if she is even in business. (voicemail and Website is still active. PLEASE DON'T USE THIS BUSINESS. They are horrible. I don't want to see anyone be stuck in the position I am in now. AWFUL!!!!!!! read more

I went to By the People on 4/28/21 to file a name change. Do not use this business. The only way they communicate is via email, not phone. They don't answer questions completely in their email response. Lots of back and forth. The court actually called me to tell me my paperwork was not completed correctly and that they were sending the paperwork back. They do not know what they are doing. read more

I needed a Living Trust and for the most part it was a very good experience. Everything was explained in detail and I was given very helpful tips on how to manage the Trust. They could have been a little better with communication and timeliness but overall it was good. read more

We were a little bit apprehensive at first but my my girlfriend just absolutely had to move forward with her divorce and support and got snubbed by several local attorneys. It seem like it's always about money. There was money right in front of them if she could just get her support orders filed. Marianne was very supportive and knowledgeable but remember, they are NOT ATTORNEYS! However, with extensive questioning for details she was able to get everything filed. There was no way for us to get all the proper documents filed out properly and be accepted by the court. Don't hurt your brains! Let them do it! It some took time. It took some cost but was very fare. Today the judge heard her case and awarded ample fees to have a fare rest of a trial. Those ladies that work there are Angeles they eliminated all the stress that comes with a divorce. If you are getting a divorce but you still get along with your spouse but don't feel the need to hire a lawyer please go to these ladies they are such a big help. Warning. This office is completely incompetent in any paperwork you wish to do. Marian the owner is barely there and has no clue how to fill out anything. FYI you will be attending any court sessions and constantly be needing to go back and forth to correct paperworkwith her mistakes. In the end I needed to correct the paperwork myself because I was tired of going to her office to fix her mistakes. She is not up to date on any laws on document preparation. You think a notary stamp is easy enough to put on paper. It should be clear and not blurred, as she put on the paper blaming-the mistake on just filling the stamp with ink and not correcting it in the first place. I forked over 18 k to her to do the leg work on everything and when asked for her to do the leg work she stated "I don't want to". This business needs to close down and not steal people's hard earned money which by the way is non refundable. Go anywhere else. This business will do you wrong and run with your cash. She can't even fix a mistake following directions. She claims she had been doing notary and probate for quite some time but every piece of paperwork was incorrect. She is right next to the BMW mechanic in a small windowed Office. You've been warned. read more
