Lobster roll
Christie K.

I love food trucks. I got even more excited when I saw that the real food festival was coming to Northbank - right in Victora Embankment Gardens so I didn't have to go across the river to indulge. I was torn between this and the mac and cheese truck and of course went with this as I've heard so much about it. It seemed like the perfect day for it. Sunny, no queue, something that isn't too heavy yet fills you up. I decided to go for the large lobster roll as I saw the smaller ones... and it looked like you'd have 2 bites at most with that. The brioche was really good - probably loaded with tons of butter (yum!). They filled the sandwich quite well with the lobster meat. It was cold but thought it was a little bit bland. Maybe I needed to add a dash of salt to it but overall could probably remember the taste of the brioche but the lobster was just a-ok. At 13 quid a pop, it is a slightly more expensive lunch but nice to indulge in once in a while. I'd like to try the crab sandwich or the tacos next time which may drive me to update my review. I really wanted to love it! I will give it another chance.

Van Made Pickles

I'm torn between 2 and 3 stars. Service was friendly and quick. Very cool van which is parked right outside the Borough Market (which is a must do btw). The lobster rolls weren't bad but they weren't nearly authentic or particularly tasty for that matter. The van made pickles were delicious! The lobster mac n cheese was not good at all but I did like their use of little hollowed out noodles.

I had a mini lobster roll last year from B.O.B.'s Lobster at Dinerama. I don't think there is anything spectacular about it to be honest. I'll go back to try again the bigger lobster roll but probably will be the last time if the standard is just OK and the same as Burger and Lobster. For that price, they should have some sides. Probably try them if I walk past them and hungry that kind of feeling. Sorry.

Wandering around Borough Market after a trip to a fine beer hole, we chanced across this wonderfully bright VW camper van filled with two smiling chefs and a team of happy staff. Their mission? To aid you to get delicious UK sourced Lobster into your tummy franticly fast service with plenty of alfresco seating, this blows the choppers off the Canadian crustaceans from Burger and Lobster. I'm kind of scared to admit the value is incredible as it may become too busy for me to ever eat there again once word gets out. but I'm going to take that risk. It feels to be such a bargain, for such quantity of delicious Lobster. Plus, tweet or facebook #thevaniscoming and you get an amusing foam claw for many many humorous photographic opportunities. Either Prosecco or Brooklyn Beer in a can from a surprising ice cooler provides a perfectly sharp accompaniment, but if you're planning ahead the relationship with Bedales Wines means you could have a specific wine available when you land. I cannot recommend the Tuna Tacos or the Lobster Mac 'nd Cheese enough! Great for sharing, so you can get more tastes and flavour involved with your face.

True, the food tastes amazing and the live music is very good, but you are sat in a car park at the end of the day (or more accurately the middle of the night). I can imagine the market being heaven when you are drunk on a night out and if you do like going out in Shoreditch I would advise you to skip dinner so you can grab a bite here, but I don't think it's worth travelling to the area just for it. The musician who was playing on Saturday had an amazing voice though and I would gladly pay to go to one of his gigs and listen to him so there's that too. The choice is yours.... Market food in the cold or looking up restaurants instead?

While it may be smaller than most, the selection of food vendors has quite the lovely balance of American and Asian-inspired street food; from hamburgers to falafel wraps, vegan doners to fried chicken, and some amazing bubble waffle concoctions from Nosteagia with ice cream & cereal to satisfy that sweet tooth we all have from time to time- or in my case, all the time. There are quite a few places to sit, and they even have game tables, (when the weather allows), and live music playing to get you pumped for all that overeating. The food stalls in the parking lot are only there on Saturdays, but the ones in the permanent structure next to it are there most of the week; so choose accordingly.

In fact, when I saw the show, I was already pulling out my diary to see when I could pencil in a trip to The City. Today was the day! Fearing that they might have sold out for the day, I jumped on my Barclays Bike in Marylebone and criss-crossed eastwards towards Liverpool Station...believe it or not, but I was beaming in anticipation of trying out Street Kitchen and probably violated tons of street rules. Finally I arrived and let me tell you straight out: I'd track this distance again even on a rainy London day! The folks inside the food truck were really nice and as it was still before the rush lunch hour, I was able to have a nice chat with them. They recommended I should try the slow-cooked mutton on potatoes and ratatouille-like vegetables...topped of with mint sauce. That was indeed an excellent recommendation and as I sat down on one of the benches on the square, I was actually picturing myself in the countryside with sheep all around me ;-) A little bit about the concept of Street Kitchen: they're all about local ingredients and everything they cook/prepare has been sourced locally. In the show on TV they showed how they even sourced Parmesan-like cheese from the UK to make a pesto-sauce. Love it...and it tastes great! Having said that, this is not the cheapest lunch option around (£7.50 for my dish), but it's definitely one of the most satisfying! On a side-note: the chap behind the counter told me that they will soon open up a second location in Covent Garden...they can count on me as a patron! (Dear owners: Do think about opening yet another branch in Marylebone though - this area is dreadfully deserted when it comes to independent/local lunch places.)

I ordered a crispy chicken with lettuce and crushed potatoes. It was excellent, Tasty, well-cooked filleted chicken with crispy skin and a creamy, tangy dressing. It is definitely worth the extra money and I look forward to trying them again!
