We booked a two night stay. I wish we booked a week. The rooms are nice and clean. We did have a…read morestructural issue with our first room and the hotel manager (who also is a jack of all trades) made sure we were moved to a room that was better suited for us. He brought our bags to our room himself instead of waiting for staff to bring it. Upon reflecting- when we checked out of the Abbaye the bags were supposed to be brought to the parking lot - we waited inside for the Uber driver for about 30 minutes, when he arrived we walked to the lot outside. They had not brought down the bags- the uber driver had a short wait for our bags. That was just a small glitch to what was a truly fabulous serene stay.
There is a lake with free use of boats (and life jackets) on the little dock, bikes to use at your whim, a beautiful pool that's heated, a spa , exercise room and more! Just going to their patio cafe was a treat because of the spectacular view of the grounds. The breakfast feast was included - it was buffet style and overwhelming with an assortment of choices. We were also treated to daily afternoon tea which included fruit, pastries, coffee and hot chocolate. There are two or three places to dine plus room service and a shuttle that can take you to a wonderful Italian restaurant-reservations required. There is a store on grounds but it has limited items to purchase, such as leather dog collars, china for a few hundred dollars, and a few other eclectic items. We had brought our own champagne with us to the Abbaye and the room had a mini-refrigerator where we could store it.
The grounds are impeccable. There are ample activities to do in your leisure time. There is a bar and restaurant open quite late. Sun sets around 9 PM. There is no night club on grounds. If you are looking for those type of activities this is not the place for you. If you want to feel like you need to restore, relax and retreat from the rat race this is the place for you. You can reconnect to nature and be in a setting where you have everything you need to feel like a welcomed visitor to a magical land.
It is family friendly and is big enough that you can feel like you are the only king or queen of a palace. Can you tell I loved this place??
