At least the salesman just sits behind the counter and helps if you ask, not follows you around the store like a hawk as they do in some other stores.

From the outlook of the shop window, I have often walked into this place expecting to find an old war vet with one eye, a fishing hat and a slur ask me what I am looking for, but alas only receive the kind and civilized service of young camping enthusiasts and helpful staff. "Is this a good knife?" my partner would ask. "Well it is, but this other one can also cut your toe nails," the helpful shop assistant would answer. This place has amazing prices on everything you could ever need to go camping, prepare for a zombie apocalypse or travel overseas. I've bought a sleeping bag that lasted my adventures through the Sahara dessert at night and a backpack that I lived out of for 6 months travelling from here for a ridiculously good price. There are plenty of knick knacks, things with caribiners on them and bottles, containers etc for travelling also at bargain prices. The staff are also willing to negotiate on price if you buy up big. Overall, this is normally my partner and I's first "go to" place if he needs to hunt something down or I need to go travelling.

It's almost overwhelming walking into the store because there's just too much variety. Of course that's not a bad thing, but for someone who doesn't know there way around outdoor equipment it can definitely feel that way. Everything is discounted in store, and trust me there's plenty to choose from. So much stock! If you're after anything involving the outdoors, I would highly recommend visiting the outlet store of Ray's Outdoors. You won't regret it.

The clothes in Witchery are always contemporary, clean and stock great prints, shoes, bags, accessories and a whole new range of children's clothes and men's clothes. It is quite an expensive place (many tops are in excess of $80) but the quality is good and the sizes seem to be able to fit most people both petite and larger. The girl in the last review was talking about her petite size. I am quite the opposite and I really struggle to find a place where the L or the 14 fits me properly. So I can feel comfortable there. Let me take you back to my birthday. I had the day off of work and I had a party that night. I thought I'd treat myself to buying a new outfit from my favourite shop. Sales were on (Witchery always seem to have good sales) and the Norwood Witchery was my first stop because of their big range. During the day, there were not many people in there but the shop was quite messy probably due to the craziness of the good sales. I found a few things to try on but had a question to ask the lady at the counter about a particular size. I stood there and waited while she stood there popping display boxes open and talking to her friend about the weekend she just had. She looked me in the eye three times but kept going. When her friend left, she just looked down and kept going. I had to ask her to help me, but she wasn't willing to leave her box popping. She then asked the other lady to help me. She looked disgruntled to do it and refused to call another store for me. I left feeling about an inch tall and went to Witchery Burnside where the people were lovely and I bought a brilliant top. I'm not a complainer - it's not what I do, but I have never been treated so badly like I shouldn't be in a store. Please don't let it distract from how great the other Witchery stores are - I've only ever been helped.

Basically I'm just looking around at everything I like, wishing I could buy something, anything. But nothing fits. *cries* When you're petite, life is hard. Life is a struggle. Life is full of dilemmas. "Should I buy this now, or wait til it goes on sale? But what if they sell out of my size?" Many a time I have bought something for the full price, the next minute it goes on sale and there's about 5 remaining in my size. Ouch. Other times, I've waited til it goes on sale and they run out of my size. See what I meeeeean! So anyway, Witchery at Norwood is good for me. I then thought I might as well get them to put it on & Noel happily offered as they weren't busy - note it is always wise to check the cost at this point which I didn't do. Noel offered a $9 quick link which I accepted. About 5 mins later the mechanic had fitted the chain & ran through the gears. Finally I paid at which time the mechanic advised he tuned the gears and charged me... $59. Their price list shows a full bike service as $99, and hub/headset rebuilds as $45, so paying $49 for an unexpected 5min tune would probably be considered by most as quite excessive & unfair. Another appropriate word would be deceitful. That's one hefty chain fitting. Buyer beware

Basically most Harvey Norman stores are set up the same. Huge entrances to the furniture department. Usually entrances are in the middle of lounges, if you go one way you will ge tmore furniture then curve round to televisions and the likes, go the other way and get beds and bedding. I have managed to grab some fantastic bargains on some great pillows here actually. Heaps better quality than at department stores and they lasted heaps longer. The Electrical and Computers are usually in a separate section at the rear or one side of the store, with electrical left of the spearate entrance to this area and computer, mobiles phones, camera's, PC software, etc to the right of the registers. I have never purchased nay major electrical items from this store but have bought some really good computer equipment here. Including a fantastic Acer laptop. It was already out so cheap and had a cah back offer making it even cheaper in the end. I have always received good service here and been given some great advice from people who obviously know their products. Getting the service is the hardest part - they are usually really busy, more so in computers and electrical departments, and it may take a little wait before someone is available to help you. However once you have someone their service is usually very good, I have never had an issue with a staff member at any Harvey Norman store.

But I find that you're paying for it when you buy stuff here. That's why they bitch and moan about online shopping. You'll get exactly the same thing and pay less than half the cost in many situations. I haven't ever bought furniture at Hardly Normal's, just because if I'm paying that much, it'll be from a premium store, not this place, or any of the others. I do feel a bit sorry for those that have to buy their computers here. Seriously, go to MSY, buy the parts, and learn to do it yourself. You'll end up with a new skill, a computer that costs literally half the price (or less), and everyone will tell you you're awesome. Which is what I can't tell this place.
