The shop owner told me that there was a delay in shipment (which happens a lot) then when it came I ignorantly believed it was a first print (didn't verify, that's on me) and was charge $20 for it! Fast forward years later, I've let that go. I can't go back in time and change it. And I've decided to let it go and continue going to a store that over charges and lies. I bought the Invincible Omnibus volume 1 and it was clearly read and mishandled spine cracked and not in the greatest condition but still paid full price. I could've got it on Amazon for less, NEW. But once again I let it go. I've been going back every week to see if things change but they don't. Then this last time I went the shop owner was entertaining racist conversation from an ignorant customer. It's been over a week since this happened. I usually go in with my headphones because I get over stimulated in a small crowded space like this shop so I've never noticed this before, but that day I didn't have my headphones in. So, I heard everything. I have receipts showing that I've spent over $200 dollars in December/January at this shop and I regret giving them my business. Needless to say I will not be going back.

I've been going to comic shops since the mid-eighties as a child, and I've never been to a comic shop where you're not allowed to come into the store. Especially at Christmas time. This is money-making time... But nope, locked up like a dog in heat during mid day posted business hours. Plus, the rules plastered all over the door to enter. If you're going to have so many rules, at least let people in the door. The owner is going have a heart attack once the street car line is done, and people want to enter her store and support small local businesses. This store is no Mile High Comics, they're going have to relying on more than just online business and comic book pulls of a handful of people to sell enough to stay afloat in this day an age. Very sad and disappointing, honestly. I was really excited to visit my first time.

I have tried to visit all the comic book stores in the area and by far the most friendly and the most knowledgeable is Nerdstalgia. My trek was to simply see in each store what was already graded and on the wall. I found a great book, Incredible Hulk 181 and was pleasantly surprised to see that it had a market value that was current . . . instead of an inflated value that was in no way close to fair market value. This made it easy to negotiate for such a key book within a couple of hundred dollars. As a result, I'm grateful for the work they do to make comic buying a great experience for all of us who love books. So far, after visiting all the stores from downtown KC to all the stores in Kansas, Nerdstalgia is, IMHO, the best shop in the Kansas City Metro.

What is with this self-checkout stuff?…read more At an airport of all places? I changed planes at Kansas City yesterday and this was close to my gate at B terminal. This place was very disorganized, boxes everywhere. One employee was stocking. I saw the "self-checkout" and no option to be waited on. As usual, the self-service machine was buggy, slow, and likely operated over dial-up internet. I was waiting to hear the AOL dial-up tone while the transaction processed. The money saved by not hiring human beings for check out does not result in lower prices. Even by airport standards. I should get an employee discount since I'm doing their work. There was another store across the corridor which required a credit card swipe to even get in Given my short turn-around between flights, this was my only real option to eat. Otherwise, I'd walk down to the chicken place.
