It is a family run business and they really know what they are talking about (even if you don't!). The service is a class above what you will get in a big DIY store. They will find a solution to your problems and they will sell you the best item for your needs, not the dearest. Highly recommended.

But times changed and ken jack is now a decent diy store. The store is larger than it looks as when you go in it reaches quite far back. The window has lots of intresting things in as others have said, quite quirky and clever. It sells everything form paint to nails. The diy shop for you if your thatw ay inclined. They stock all the usual suspects, paint, screws, nails etc. Take a quick look at their window display every now and then for some amusement, from creatures created out of items them stock to scarecrows and giant candles complete with paper flame, there's always something a little out of the ordinary in the window to make you smile. I especially like the giant plug in the window at the moment!

The advantage of using this place as opposed to a large DIY chain is that the owner actually seems to know what he is talking about and gives advice on what you need. Try that in a large shop, if you can find anyone to ask, your question is usually met with a blank look. Oh, and my kids also love this place, since they discovered that the owner doles out free sweets!!

There are 2 of these shops pretty much facing each other either side of the street. One sells…read moreeverything garden and DIY related. The other selling a fantastic range of cook and houseware. Both are definately worth a look as they are like little aladdins caves, full of treasures and certain to have what you are looking for! Staff are really knowledgable and are happy to answer any questions you may have or point you in the right direction if you are stuck. Prices are reasonable, no more expensive than anywhere else in the town and generally I've always found there is a really nice atmosphere to both shops.
