This Wilkinsons is huge! It's over a few floors and sells everything you need. The downstairs feels…read morea little sparse of stock sometimes. Generally the prices are good, and.there can be useful offers on. One time though I wanted to buy a throw, and there was only one left. I picked it up and it was covered in pasta sauce, someone had hidden their rubbish under it and had wrecked it. I went to buy it at another store. I appreciate this is the fault of the customer but if the display had been tidied sooner it would have been cleared up before wrecking the throw.

The shop-keeper stands on high a podium like plinth to stand on, complete with green body warmer and look of stern knowledge crossing his face. What to say, I was on a look out for a staple gun and in this mini-tardis there were many varieties one complete with staple remover. Extension cables of many varieties, screws, nails, fixtures and fittings, not terribly cheap but quality items at your convenience.

Being as I make jewellery it's really useful to have a wee drill bit to use, as I collect a good…read morenumber of shells to include in various pieces. As I like to hand pick a lot of these shells straight from the beach they invariably all need a hole drilling at some point! One of my tasks of the day was to find this tiny drill bit and so I decided to try The Tool Box in Otley. As soon as I ventured in I realised I was a little out of my league. Burley men looking at various power tools glanced up and raised an eyebrow at me, I suppose I can't blame them as I did look overwhelmed. Tools and DIY bits were everywhere. The shop was filled to burst with gear; when they named it The Tool Box they were not kidding. I couldn't believe it! They had gardening equipment, drills, rakes, saws, screws - I couldn't list everything, but I know that if you had some specific requirement The Tool Box would have it. In the end I slowly made my way round the entire shop, carefully checking the shelves for drill bits, and eventually (once I'd made it back to the entrance area) found the bits I needed. At first I could only see tiny drill bits in with a set of several extra ones, until I realised they had a sort of pick 'n' mix box of spare one off drill bits. It said they were all 60p each and so I found the tiniest one. Yay! Just what I needed. I went to get out my 60p and the guy went to charge me then realised I had the smallest bit in the world, and so just said "ahh, you can just have that. No worries." Awesome! Really great stuff. My main advice? Don't spend the entire time looking, it'd be quicker just to ask.

Crikey O Riley! If there's one thing I've discovered from Leeds, and this particular shop in…read morePudsey, it's that indie DIY stores are totally the way forward! Pudsey DIY Store does exactly what it says on the, er, sign - it provides pretty much anything you might wish for in a DIY store. They've so much stock it's literally spilling onto the forecourt - the little area in front of the shop, up a mere flight of three steps. (Can three steps count as a 'flight'?) They have fully taken advantage of this space; it seems that they have bought that much extra stock so as to display their all encompassing glory to its fullest! Inside is just as cluttered with goods, and whilst they certainly do seem to sell practically anything to do with home, garden and DIY, it can be overwhelming. I imagine if you are after something in particular your best option would be to ask for some help, they seem really friendly, lest you spend the afternoon in a daze, searching in wonderment and distracted by the sheer amounts of things! Be it rakes, doggy beds, paints, gas, wood burners, rock salt (?!), blow up rafts, sleds, buckets, washing up bowls, laundry baskets and oh-my-god-I-can't-cope-trying-to-write-them-all things this place is *the* place. Phew. Go! But be warned, there is muchos stuff to wade through!

This store is simply filled with useful things. I imagine, since I'm such a magpie for shiny…read morethings, that this place could be the equivalent for those DIY kind of guys. (And girls, if that's more your thing!) I remember countless times nipping into Wilkos with my boyfriend for something like, shampoo say, and having to drag him away from all the tools and plugs and so on in some bizarre role reversal. This would be a similar kind of place I imagine, and so I'm rather glad I found it without his company! Generally speaking, they sell hardware, houseware, garden equipment, ironmongery and gifts. This essentially means that anything practical, rustic, perfunct and such lies within. Need a new washing bin? Done. Need a new shower head? Done. Need a new lawnmower? Done. Need a new iron? Done. Need a new set of dinner plates? Done. Need a new ... ad infinitum ... Done. You get the idea, right? They have almost anything housey that you could need.
