The place looks like it has been around for quite a while. The smell of a grill that's been used for many years is pervasive. But not in a bad way. And signage shows that this has been a beloved place for many years. I got the double meat cheeseburger and because I couldn't decide, I got a half basket of onion rings, which was 3 onion rings, and a half basket of French fries, also a root beer. I was the first person there when they opened. But within a couple of minutes, there were 2 others that from their conversation had been going there since the beginning of time. LOL. The cheeseburger was good, a little dry, but tasty. The onion rings were great. The fries were a little burnt unfortunately. The service was quite good. I'm glad I stopped just to hear about the history of the place from the 2 old-timers who were eating next to me.

I am often asked, "What is your favorite restaurant in (Wichita Falls)?"…read more I generally hesitate with the answer, as I ponder that question and answer. I usually answer with one or two I'm frequenting more often in the current time period. When it comes down to it, I can solidly say Deli Planet is in the permanent Top Three. This year, I have been dining with Deli Planet for 40 years. Now with that being said, Deli Planet is truly my number one. I have eaten with no other that long (in the Falls). First as 'Subs n Subs' then Deli Planet. The consistent thing has been Eric Rutledge. He's been serving me since my first visit in 1986. Bob did an awesome job with hiring this guy. All the employees over the years have been fantastic and have always treated me like family. Always greeted with hugs and smiles. The one big change in all the years that turned this place into a powerhouse business is when Eric married Becca and this true power couple became one. Legends in the local restaurant business! The food always top-notch and very consistent from visit to visit. The place is always clean. All the employees seem to really enjoy their working here, which translate to a great atmosphere. I really love dining here and reflect back fondly on all that have crossed my path while dining here. Especially when I think back to all those that this place gave me a permanent friend like Samantha Ellis Stanley. Of course the whole of the Rutledge family is included in that, as they have all worked here at one time or another. Love my Deli Planet!!

The food was very good and fresh which I loved. The vegetable pakora was surprisingly my highlight. Not because the rest of the meal was bad, but because it was so unique. I love that they thought outside the box and didn't default to just frying onions. The meal was good, I will say overall it could have benefited from some salt for sure. But that is just a preference. We loved it!

Food on the Tex-Mex platter was plenty and very satisfying.

From the inside, still looks like any other small diner in a strip mall setting. The tables are either booths or wooden tables with wooden chairs. There are TVs lining the walls and some booth have TVs at them as well. Every one if tuned to sports. The ceilings are high and the vibe is sports bar meets middle of nowhere, local hangout. The place was very busy for 7:30 on a Friday night and the atmosphere is uber casual. Greeted by a seat yourself sign, we found a table in the front corner, by the window, and waited for our server. Within a few minutes we were waited on and given our drinks. First place in a long time that carries Coke products and offered diet Dr Pepper- good start. We order onion rings as an appetizer and I got the soft taco basket while hubby got the crunchy taco basket for dinner. We hopped up shortly after we ordered and moved to an empty table a few feet away because the AC in the area we were sitting was unbearable. Way too windy and way too cold. Found our new seat to be better from a warmth standpoint. Onion rings came out and while there were only 6 in the basket, they were huge and cooked to a nice golden color. Unfortunately, they were a little bland, but with some salt and ranch, not too bad. My soft tacos were delivered open face on a large plate. Interesting presentation for sure. There were 3 and each came with ground beef, lettuce, tomatoes, and cheese. I ordered sour cream on the side and am happy to say, they were delicious. I only ate 2 of the 3 so proportionally they were a very good offering. Hubby's order included 4 crunchy tacos, same fillings- except no tomatoes for him- and I took a small bite to taste the shell. No complaints from either of us. Our server was really sweet and other than a slight delay between getting our drinks and ordering dinner, service was fast and efficient. Dinner cost about $45 in total- with tip- so not too bad for a quick stop in a little town. Hope you enjoy
