Brett and his family and staff were always very friendly to me, which is not something you're used to when you're in sales. I have since moved on and follow them on FB and see all of the great ways they are impacting their community. From fundraising events to setting up volunteer delivery for seniors during COVID-19, the Almich family goes above and beyond to serve their community in every way possible. This one is for the cafe…read more Things aren't what they used to be. I used to go to this Cafe at the end of every work week, I used to actually invite my friends to come with me. They would look at me strangely and say " really, you want to go to Hy-Vee for breakfast" I would Rave about how good their food actually is for being a grocery store Cafe. I can safely say that not one of my friends ever left disappointed. Great food, great service, friendly atmosphere. Things aren't what they used to be. Even before the rise of prices of eggs for some unknown reason they decided to switch to the eggs you get from a carton. Very fake tasting and never really cooked that good. They went from using real mushrooms in their omelets to the cheap stuff you get in the can. They used to have very delicious sliced potatoes that would taste like heaven, but now you can only get hash browns that are very Bland. In closing, pretty sad when a cafe in a grocery store can't make your omelet with real eggs. Things aren't what they used to be. Still very friendly service. Although I don't know her name, there's a gray-haired old gal that is always smiling, always joking, and makes you feel right at home. Thank YOU for making me feel welcome. Inside the store, mostly tidy and only a few areas where there were items missing. The grocery area was well stocked and I found my travel snacks. The self checkout person (dawn) was extremely rude. Instead of just checking to see if we had the appropriate number of items scanned she just CANCELED OUR ENTIRE PURCHASE!!! Then she told us to start checking out again. That was the last thing we had to scan to finish our purchase. We had to rescan everything again. When we told her all we wanted was a check of the correct number of items and asked her why she canceled our entire purchase she told us "I hope you don't come back again". We went to customer service to tell them about our experience and they were very understanding and helpful. On the way out of the store Dawn had a rude comment to us which we went back to customer service and told them about. They were appalled to hear someone working for Walmart would speak to their customers like that. We will NEVER go to Walmart in Marshall again!! We will do our shopping in Sioux Falls where there are Target stores and they know how to treat the people who shop in their store with respect!!!! We will share this experience with others.

We also tried the cheese curds which also exceeded expectations. Then we got some very expensive chicken that we turned into fried chicken. Apparently the local chicken farmers lost their livestock so prices were higher than normal. The employees were friendly and helped me find everything I needed.

It's your typical small town grocery store. You need to watch for their meat expiration dates. But they sometimes have good deals in their meat department. Picked it up the morning of the event and it had huge pastel flowers all over it. They had no one there that could fix it. They had nothing to replace it with. Tried 2 other places and they wouldn't fix it. Got to the event and the chef said he could maybe fix it and asked me to go buy a bouquet of autumn flowers. After buying the flowers and paying the chef $50 who worked wonders with it and saved the day. The next day I went to the store with pictures and they gave me back the decorating cost a d said to come back the next day for the additional fees. I returned and was told they ate the cake right? And said they refunded all they were going to. At an event of this type and the mistake being theirs admitted by them and leaving us in a bind that response was unacceptable. My entire family has been boycotting this family's businesses ever since.
