They can understand English but even if they don't they want you to shout your order to them in your best Portuguese. They know what you want even before you open your month. I got my banana drink and went outside with my friends, only to see that one of them got a strawberry drink! What the heck?! And unfortunately, my banana açaí drink was not the tastiest.
