This location constitutes the City Hall and Town Square of Mieres. Mieres has 3 "town squares", but this is the official municipal plaza. Like most of the architecture in the older neighborhoods in Mieres, the building itself is an attractive historic building. The most interesting aspect of the City Hall though, is the events that take place there. Let's just say, Mieres is a hardworking town full of people who like to party. In particular, the annual summer festival of San Xuan kicks off with a huge pagan dance around an ENORMOUS bonfire in the center of the plaza. This event is followed by a huge drunken carnival that spiders through the whole town. It's a LOT of fun. read more
