I got a second estimate from another company for 725, and when they came out they fixed it without replacing the motor so I spent nothing. Another did show up but never followed up with a quote. Pros:(not many) Awnings are beautiful and give our home a cottage look that finished our little box shaped house. Onyx- the contractor was helpful and gave suggestions. Cons: -ZERO COMMUNICATION!! -The owner is rude and condescending. I have a unique home and I needed some expert guidance on how to place the awnings so they would not be in the way of foot traffic. She gave me an incredibly hard time to meet this demand. -I tried to meet with someone in March on the weekend since this is not our primary residence. I was told they could not accommodate, and then was berated when she called and asked if I was there on a Saturday and was not. In April when we finally met in the middle of the week, I was told that I had to pay an extra fee because now it was prime season. Also it would take 8 weeks. I said ok. IT TOOK 16 WEEKS!! I just got them up in August. -I was not informed that the awning were being installed. I only knew from our cameras. -Owner demanded a final payment when I was already down the shore. (this was not communicated or I would have been prepared) Again this is not my primary residence. I do not carry my checkbook and she would not take venmo or Zelle. - I was told this was a slow time and needed payment and when I rebutted that she told me it was busy,she said "It's a slow time for payment and needed to make payroll due to having paid alot of taxes lately"--NOT MY PROBLEM

He spoke with me numerous times on the phone to make sure he fully understood our issue, performed troubleshooting with me over the phone, called the motor manufacturer, and sent me regular texts to keep me informed of what he was finding out. He took nothing for granted, and did everything he could to make sure we solved our problem quickly without spending money we didn't need to spend. As it turns out, his legwork and follow-through led him to the conclusion that we didn't, in fact, need another motor. He spent about an hour onsite on the phone with the motor manufacturer and got it working. I think all businesses, regardless of industry, could learn from Zak and Garden State Shade.
