There are programs within SCCCMH that are great and some I do not like. I personally have…read morebenefitted from their support. While struggling at times with depression and lack of income, the staff were helpful with getting me Insurance and connecting me with a therapist that respects my faith and I am very appreciative. Also, I know several of the staff professionally and they are remarkable people. The lady that helps with connecting folks with state benefits was a blessing. ACCESS line is a life saving resource, or can be at least. My biggest issue is with the children and family division on 24th Street. Before COVID, Janice and Dr. Stroker (sp) were doing just fine with my daughter. After COVID, both left (one to retire and the other to other things). Rachel took over as the specialist for my daughter. Her and the supervisors strongly pushed ABA therapy. While working with Janice, we were told ABA may be a bit much for her and we have the right to say no, so we asked not to do ABA. Rachel stopped supporting Ema after this, and with COVID and other programs being closed, there was less to do with her. Eventually, she was taken off services and her medications were discontinued, which we found out when we went to get her prescription filled several months later. If there was a formal letter indicating otherwise, I did not receive it, nor a phone call. For the great service we received with Janice and what I received from the main office, it was opposite with Rachel. I am not a fan of the current direction for the children services for those in the autistic spectrum. I would've appreciated advanced notice of her being taken off her medication. Please not that it asked it I would recommend the place. I meant to push maybe but the no button was clicked. In general, SCCCMH is good if you are in need of direction with where to go for mental health services. Be bold in your expectations if you use their family services on 24th Street and be an advocate for your child and expect clarification from them if they decide to make changes in the plans as you are a part of the plan as well as your child and their staff.

I am severely depressed and have bee in therapy for years. Talk therapy isn't working. I was…read morereferred to CMH because they offer ketamine therapy. I started almost a month ago and have made 3 visits, all to fill out data most of which they already have. I was told to book an appointment for a psych evaluation. When I tried I was told that I needed to fill out more paperwork before I could even be put on a waiting list. I asked them how far out they were booked and told until late December or early January. I am already really depressed and have always been down during the holidays. Although my costs are fully covered by my insurances, they want a proof of income from me. To get the help I need to have to go through all of this. Reminds me of a movie called "Zulu" where the British are in a pitched battle and are out numbered. A huge hoard of Zulu warriors are just about on top of them. A British soldier approaches the supply wagon saying he is out of ammunition. The quarter master replies by asking him if he has filled out the proper forms. Sticking unbendingly to protocol is often not in the interest of people and could well be fatal.
