Every Tuesday and Friday 7 am - 1 pm you can drop in and pick up some produce, some hot food, new and used clothing, bric a brac and much more. The centre is also very well utilized by local groups for adult and youth classes, including holiday programs. It has a strong multi-cultural feel to the place and whatever ethnicity your background is, I am sure you will be made to feel welcomed. I have hired rooms in the not-so-distant-past and I can honestly say that it is one of the most attractive community centres around Auckland. It is spacious, clean and well maintained. Organize to have a look at the rooms available if you are searching for a space needed for a conference, regular meetings, or a once off celebration to hold a number of people.

Here they hold markets here, church services, school holiday programmes and classes. It's a beautiful building that is a pleasure to hang out in. There are lots of different rooms and spaces so there's something to suit every kind of event or group. It's really awesome that places like this still exist. I've been to a church service there and it was a really warm and comfortable place to visit. I really want to check out the farmer's market on Sunday and also the Pilates classes they hold there at 5:30 on Thursdays!

The first time I went to the community centre was for a youth talent show. The room was perfect as it accommodated the number of attendees. The kitchen was always clean and located inside the hall we where using. This made it easier at snack time as it was just a matter of taking items from the kitchen to the table we had set up buffet style outside the kitchen. The rooms are also built in a way that makes it flexible to arrange the room the way that suits you and your event. Although there is parking on site, it is limited. Luckily there are plenty of off street parking spaces.

Friday nights at Rainbow Youth are the best time - school is over for the week and people will pile in to have a good time and be themselves. I interviewed the kids of Rainbow Youth about the issues that were facing them once - I ended up coming away feeling good about how LGBT children are faring. While their stories weren't all sunshine and rainbows, it was easy to see that having spaces like Rainbow Youth around makes life all that more bearable, while helping to create stronger, happier queer kids.

Just a normal everyday pigeon we were told no one would care when we started making inquiries. When we contacted Green Bay Bird Rescue they cared when it mattered and no one else did. We took the pigeon in the next day and they were very helpful and empathic, for which we were much appreciative. If you care enough about birds when they are injured then these are the people to talk with, they are fantastic and couldn't recommend them enough. Everyone should show caring to other creatures we share this planet with and the people at Green Bay Bird Rescue provide a great example of this. Five stars.

A few weeks…read moreago I saw a gorgeous lounge suite that had cushions that could fold up (great for owners of a furry cat that leaves his fur everywhere he goes). It was also long enough to sleep a guest, still in great condition and had plush dark red fabric. But silly me hesitated and left it for more than 24 hours to think about and of course such a good deal was snapped up by the next day. I have been back in since hoping of another super great find but alas not just yet. I have bought cushions and large pieces of fabric though. Out the back there is several shelves and containers that stock curtains, cushions, bed linen and off cuts of fabric. They also have a room dedicated to books for all the book worms out there. Clothing is on permanent specials it seems, and it is popular, crowds of folk have been in the place when I have visited.

Five stars? The Peace Place really deserves much more. It is also a difficult subject to to…read morecategorize, but it deserves a mention to get their name out there. It is a place of sanctuary in the centre of the city, to pray, meditate, research or find like minded people. I attended there through the Auckland Spiritual Discussions Group, they use the space to meet on the 27th of each month, in the evenings, having different speakers give talks and/or lead practices. The peace place is utilized by several different groups of different religious views,but all supportive of the same values. Pax Christi, an international peace movement being one of them. The venue has a large range of interesting books, a library that you can borrow from, on many esoteric subjects and/or about the peace movements, advocates past and present, religious orders, etc. I have not been able to add the opening hours as it really does depend on several factors, however I can tell you that Monday's at 5:30pm they offer a space for meditation and occasionally lunchtimes too; and on Sat's they celebrate the Eurachrist, you don't have to be catholic to attend. The testing centre offers the fastest, which is a test that can test anyone for HIV and syphilis and their results will be available after 20 minutes. This service comes in handy when one just wants to know their status without having to wait for a week until they get their results. A good place to visit before one enters into a sexual relationship with someone. The staff are ultra friendly and everything is confidential!

I only give this library a a-okay. Because, well it does serve the library purposes by working with…read morebooks and magazines and DVDs and so forth. But having said that I don't like the space at all. It is awkwardly designed, so that it is made more difficult than necessary to find the book you are after. And there isn't actually that much of a selection if you ask me. Also, there always seem to be students studying there. Which is totally fine but I don't really see the library that small as an ideal space for study. They take up all the table space for hours and hours, and most of the time they are just sitting there chatting. Super annoying. Still, the staff are nice and helpful, as most librarians are!

So, of course this is a library, with all the usual things you'd expect at a library: books,…read moremagazines, CDs and DVDs, wi-fi and internet access. That's all here in spades, and contained within an attractive building in a little square across the road from Lynn Mall. However, what makes this library a grand place to visit whilst you're in New Lynn is that it has a permanent exhibition dedicated to Crown Lynn pottery, (whose factory was just up the road for most of the 20th century) tracing their history and with quite a few examples of their work - everything from mass produced domestic pieces through to one off works and even the pieces they made for Air NZ for use in flight.
