I thought this was a good vet and even left a good review after taking my cat there. However, i got a puppy and things went downhill. We were lied to about the puppies age and didn't find out until she had already been with me for 2 weeks. i took her there the first time at 6 weeks old and everything seemed normal. at her second booster appt, the doctor was an extreme rude and just unwelcoming. he basically told me that i got her way to young and if she has behavior issues, i'd be my fault since mom wasn't around to correct her. even though we literally talked about this 2 week prior and what i needed to do. Then i mentioned to him that she was pottying outside then coming in the house and peeing little amount with 10-20 minutes of coming in. when i mentioned a possible UTI, he said well she's a puppy she's going to have accident that's what you signed up for. something just didn't feel right so i took her to another vet that my mom loves, they test her urine and guess what? she has such a bad UTI that my 12 week old puppy has blood in her urine. long story short, i'm just going to take my business elsewhere. read more

So thankful I found Avon Vet Clinic. I have a 11 year old Shitzu with IMHA which is deadly if not closely monitored and life can be miserable for the doggo if medications and blood work not watched. Communication is the key and AVC staff and Vet both listen to what I say and so far their recommendations have improved my fur baby's way of life. If there are ten stars - I'd give them. A year ago, after moving to Avon, I made several calls to the area animal clinics. We have three cats and their wellness is very important to us. I was most impressed with the Avon Vet Clinic, which is now part of Animal Care Group LLC. Their prices were fair and the staff was friendly on the phone. With three cats, we've been to the clinic several times over the years for minor procedures, regular shots and check ups as well as illness. They ALWAYS work hard to get us in as soon as they can when it's urgent. They provide really amazing care for our three cats. ALL of their doctors and staff are really great to deal with. As a matter of fact, I don't have a preference as to which doctor I see when we go in. They are all very knowledgeable and take great care of the animals. At the time of writing this, they also ofter late night "emergency" hours until Midnight 5 or 6 nights a week. This is so nice as we have often taken a sick kitty in who had to stay a while for extra special treatment. On top of their staff, quality of care and extended hours - their prices are affordable. I simply CANNOT speak highly enough about Avon Veterinary Clinic. read more

The most incompetent veterinarian I have ever dealt with in my life, and I have been taking my pets to veterinarians for 30 years. The events we had to put up with are partially our fault, but we were naive and trusted the recommendation of a friend. First, we had a sweet little ferret named Honey that developed a tumor on her adrenal gland. We took her to the Avon Veterinary Clinic, and the vet recommended a shot once a month for the rest of her life. However, he warned us that his medicine was out of date but new medicine would be arriving soon. We opted to use the out of date medicine with the expectation that Honey would get current medicine the next month. For five additional months we were told the same thing, and for five months we agreed to use the outdated medicine. Unfortunately Honey took a turn for the worse, and we had to have her put down. Was it the outdated medicine? Probably not, but our current veterinarian at Avian & Exotic Animal Clinic was appalled and showed us a shelf full of current medication as well as an implantable slow release drug that could have been used as well. Second incident was with our other ferret Aspen who is a very mild mannered fatty who loves to jump high in the air when she gets excited. It's hilarious to see how high she can jump using her short little legs. Anyway, Aspen developed a bump on one of her back legs. We took her to the Avon Veterinary Clinic, and the vet told us it was a tumor and to not worry about it unless it was bothering Aspen. A few months went by, and the tumor grew to the size of a grape. It wasn't bothering Aspen, but we decided it needed removed anyway. The vet at Avon Veterinary Clinic removed so much skin that when the wound was closed it was too tight and it cut off the blood supply to Aspen's foot. She had to have her leg amputated by the good vet at the Avian & Exotic Animal Clinic. No more jumping for Aspen. An employee from the Avon Veterinary Clinic called to check up on Aspen, and I politely told her we were going to another veterinarian. Five minutes later the actual vet called, and I lost my christian cool and told him what I thought of his skills as a veterinarian. He lost his temper as well and said a few things that he later called and apologized for saying. read more

We first came here to start our new puppy on her shot series. They were by farthest, one of the most affordable in the area. The personnel were extremely cheerful and pleasant and treated us as we had been patients forever at the clinic. When we were there, I noticed a flameless candle burning with a beautiful frame with a letter next to it on the front counter. The candle is lit when there is a family that is present in the clinic euthanizing their cat or dog. The framed letter explains this and it asks specific behavior from this that enter the clinic during this time. A pretty spectacular place! read more

We have used Avon Vet Clinic for the last 8-9 years since moving to the area for all of our pets. They have always taken the time to get to know us and our pets. Recently we had to have one of our family members put down. Avon Vet Clinic made it easy, they cared, and helped us through the situation. I took my puppy here to get spayed. I took her back 4 different times within 10 days because of her being in pain and itchy. She still didn't get better. Today I took her because I thought she had an infection. It was red and really hot to the touch. They said everything looks great and they are happy with it and took the sutures out and sent us home. We are now at an emergency vet and she does have an infection. They told us at 2pm everything looks great and there are no worries. At 6pm we rushed her to the emergency vet because she was screaming in pain. read more

I would have to agree with some of those who feel the staff is not the most attentive. My poor puppy (actaully not a puppy but thats what she is to me) had a growth on the side of her mouth. Took her ot the clinic to make sure it was nothing serious and was told it was nothing that an antibotic couldn't fix. Two weeks later there was no change. Took her back, and was told to buy more antibotics and blood taken. (more$) Blood test was negative for cancer. Later there was no change and it's time for teeth cleaning and THAT should fix it. During teeth cleaning it was then determined that it just might be something more serious and a biospsy was needed. To validate it's nothing serious...again. Seems very profit driven. What bothered me about this was there was not time to discuss this before we paid for a biopsy since she was currently asleep. I was on the phone with them and said I would need to call my wife. Less than three minutes later they were calling form my decsion...Which I didn't know I was going to have to make. I typically don't like write negative reviews, but when you are told something you thought at the beginnning with $'s spent. It's bothersome. We could have done that first. But the $ value would have gone down. read more

We moved about 1 1/2 years ago to Avon. We have two dogs, one has really bad allergies and acid reflux and the other one gets really bad atopic dermatitis at least 4-5 times a year as well as eats everything in sight (literally)... My husband and I would say we take the girls in for one reason or another at least a 8-10 times/year. Since we saw that clinic on our way to Lowes one day we decided that we'd try them out. The vets were AMAZING especially Dr. Sara Meneghini!!! We always request her because she is a wonderful, warm, gentle, and friendly towards our girls. But we have also had both Dr. Brian Mehringer and Dr. Jackie Busch check our girls out and they were both FABULOUS as well. This is a wonderful Veterinary Clinic and like Jen F. said, they are BEYOND reasonable. The only downside that we experienced is that all the times we've gone in the front office staff is not attentive nor friendly... Although it might just be the staff we're encountering since Jen F. said the staff was nice to her. All in all I genuinely believe the Veterinarians at Avon Veterinary Clinic are the best in town. Our dogs are our lives, we would not trust just anyone with their medical needs. Avon Vet Clinic is THE BEST. read more

Eventually the time comes when your older dog gets sick and passes. I would not have been able to get through this without the help of Melanie, a staff member at the Avon Veterinary Clinic. She was dedicated to doing everything they could for my pup. She checked in frequently with me about how our dog was doing with the medication prescribed, how he was feeling, and helped me understand the options that were available to us. Long overdue review. Between myself, my dad, and my friend, we were here a few times over the summer/fall of 2014 with the same stray kitty in need of care. He is a wild man that has been coming around off and on for about three years with long disappearances in between. At the time, he had just reappeared after a year at least and had a wound on his leg. It wasn't easy catching him, but we brought him to this vet on a recommendation from a friend. His wound was thought to be from a fight, but has never healed completely. First visit, told to keep an eye on it. Then he was put under twice for surgery to have it stitched. Last visit, they wouldn't even look at him nor remove his stitches and told us to leave. They had wanted him to remain indoors to heal and treated us like we just refused to follow directions. This is a wild cat with an eartip that, while friendly and comfortable around us, is very leery of most people and handling. He was extremely traumatized from being kept indoors at my friend's house and stopped eating. After two weeks there, he dropped a lot of weight, was miserable and his leg still had not healed. He was also in my house and I observed him jumping into high places in order to feel secure. There was no way, indoors nor out, to keep this cat from using his leg long enough to allow it to heal completely. A vet tech I know took a look at the wound and said there was not enough skin there to stitch it and that he never should have been put through that. I am upset he was put under anesthesia for pretty much no reason and that they took a chance with the dangers associated with that just to pad the bill. Not ALL, but most of the staff we encountered were rude and condescending. There was one man who, from across the room, butted into my father's conversation with someone else at the desk. There was also a tech I dealt with during the first surgery check-in that tried to add a lot of services, which I refused and signed my name, but later over the phone tried to tell my friend, who paid for some of this, that I authorized things to be charged to her card that I did not. She even tried to say that I claimed to be my friend. Hmm that's why I signed MY own name to the electronic pad. Since they ended up taking the charge for his inoculations off of the bill (NOT at our request as we were perfectly willing to pay for them) they would not give us anything proving he had received his shots. The staff were also very uninformed on the difference between a stray and a feral cat and did not understand my friend & I when we were explaining that this cat should not have been ear-tipped in the first place... The first veterinarian we saw also could not guess his age with any accuracy. This is a pretty large place that does look nice, but surely has a high overhead. We have had extremely long waits even with appointments scheduled. There is a lot of staff which leaves you not knowing anyone of them in particular on a personal level. The more I was here, the more uneasy I felt. I feel terrible for leaving this little cat that trusts me here with them. The only good thing they did for this poor guy is give him an antibiotic shot that did clear up his cough for a time. Other than that, I feel they just put an already untrusting animal through further trauma. He has obviously lived a hard life on the streets and deserves compassion. He is a work in progress still from all of this. I am just glad that he is finally inside so that we can gently gear him towards being part of a loving home indoors. A lot of hard-earned money was squandered here. We have not returned and never will. read more

My family has been coming to AVC since we moved to indy 3 years ago. We used to have 3 dogs; a great dane, a lab, and a cockapoo. Now we only have the cockapoo, lost the others to old age. While visiting in Avon from Florida, our doodle was attacked by a pit bull. A chunk was torn out of his front leg. Dr. Mehringer and his staff were exceptional! They fit our dog into their busy schedule for three operations for stitches and followed up with calls to see how Rooney was doing. We are so grateful for their excellent care. My dog is dead because of them and now the cat's life is at risk because of them. Horrible. Lied about my dogs blood test more than once and told me she was fine. I knew she wasn't because she was having seizures so we tried a new vet and when they called avon vet clinic to get their numbers from the last blood test new vet was angry and said my dogs issues could have been fixed over a year ago. The numbers were plain and clear! I also took Maya's cat in right around that same time to have them look at a bump on his neck. They barely looked at it and said not to worry he's fine. After finding out about them lying about my dog I took the cat to the new vet and they actually looked at him and did a biopsy and its cancer. These people do not care about the animals or know anything about them. Save yourself and your pet the suffering and heartache and tell them to a real vet. A real vet listens to their heart, takes their temp, listens to how you describe what's going on and actually looks at your animal. This vet has never done any of that. read more

This veterinary clinic is fine for basic care, such as yearly shots, and maintenance meds. However, DO NOT trust them with the lives of your precious fur babies. I lost my 2 year-old berner after 2days of their "care" . She had been at their office all afternoon for treatment, then when I picked her up she had to be carried out to my car by staff members. She was a beautiful 100-pound dog. I cannot be sure, but believe she was over-medicated and could not walk. I was told by Dr. Mehringer to bring her back the next morning for further treatment, however she didn't make it through the night. I was told she had a simple stomach ache. I would think a vet with his experience would know when to send a dog home or not. I had used this vet for 7-plus years and always found inconsistencies, with different diagnoses with every visit. Unfortunately, this time I paid the ultimate price. Never again. read more
