Wow. Beyond impressed, local, organic, sustainable, and so friendly and community oriented! This is a true gem in Morro Bay! The produce is not only ethically and locally sourced, but far more reasonably priced than any big brand stores. Love, love, love this place! Owner is awesome and truly loves avocados. He is like an avocado encyclopedia. I stop here every time I'm in Morro Bay, sometimes twice. And I make sure to take an armful with me when I leave. He even carries local avocado ice cream. I've never been disappointed in the other veggies either. I got the nerve up and went in with my dead produce (review below) to ask for a refund. The owner's son was there and earned an A+ for customer service and making things right. He had read the review I posted and pulled the grapes off the display the next morning. He said he was hoping I would come in. (My suggestion for the owner is next time to write that response in the "comments from the owner" section. I would have gotten an email that a response was posted.) Ways he made it write include refunding my money, replacing the produce and giving me a few peaches on the way out the door. And, most importantly, saying he was sorry and it was not OK. Empathy in this world is sorely missing, bonus points. I said I would update my review since he made it right. Great customer service seems to be a thing of the past, but not at the Avocado Shack. I was torn between 3 and 4 stars. Yes, he made it right, but the produce that day I shopped was still bad. The person that was working has been having personal issues and the owner is cutting her slack. That is fine, I get it and I support it. But, they need a second person to float the floor and keep everything looking pretty to command the prices they are charging. Good presentation is vital when dealing with a store of mostly all perishable fruits and veggies! read more

I was looking forward to shopping at this establishment as I heard they sell only local produce and no importing from Mexico. Upon arriving there was no one there only one employee stocking a shelf. This is an outdoor venue with no other shoppers when we arrived. Walking in with our basket , we were told from the person stocking the produce that we needed to wear a mask! I asked why? had something changed recently with the county? H e said "No, this is my business and I require a mask while shopping".. I said we are out doors and there are not other customers.. He said this is not debatable, I told him good luck with that policy, and left my basket as we left the store. This owner is very rude and could have approached this much differently. I hate to say this but I stopped in cause I needed a few tomatoes and I was charged $8 dollars for 3 tomatoes!!! This was extremely ridiculous!!! Organic or not! As a matter of fact the label on the tomato said "Produce of Mexico". Just a warning if you need to pick up some quick produce make sure you don't stop here if you don't want to be over charged!!!! Like Leonard, I had a negative customer service experience at the Avocado Shack. I was in today with another person and I guess the employee and this person had a disagreement in the parking lot. I had nothing to do with the situation and wasn't even present for it, but yet, I was asked to leave. Guilty by association I guess. If it's the same employee that Leonard dealt with, he must have a low tolerance for differing opinions and he may not be suited for a position in customer service. Truth be told my basket was nearly empty because I found the prices to be outrageous! If I were on my own I wouldn't have put anything in my basket, but the person I was with was going to be paying. read more

A great place to pick up fresh, organic, local fruits and vegetables. If not local then the best organic producers from elsewhere. This small place offers artisan bread, cheeses and meats. They support the efforts of the Cal Poly SLO agriculture as well as small farmers and ranchers. I am so impressed and will make future purchases here. read more

I went to the new location and it was wonderful (2190 Main). Their prices and produce are amazing, and they are a local family business! We got avocados, blood oranges, white grapefruit, strawberries, and more. I was especially impressed by the great system they have in place and their commitment to keeping the community safe during Covid times. Masks are REQUIRED. Customs enter in through one side, shop, and exit another. Mike will be there watching to make sure social distancing is enforced, if he doesn't feel that people are complying, we will have to go back to one customer at a time- so let's do this right. To shop you use their baskets and afterwards every basked is dipped in a bleach and water solution before another customer can use it again. He is also trying to grow tomatoes in planters along the sides, where eventually customers will be able to pick their own tomatoes- very fun! This is going to be my new produce stop for sure! read more

I discovered the joys of Avocado Toast this Summer and have started buying my avocados here. I love that they have multi-grain Brian's bread, also. The owner's son was great, he gave me some old bananas to help my avocados get ripe faster!! After my first visit I thought I should buy more items. I have bought iceberg lettuce and apples here. The lettuce was expensive, but stayed fresh a long time in my fridge. The apples got old too quickly, I had to toss them. I should have put them in the fridge instead of my fruit bowl, I guess. The last time I went there it was a weekend and there were lots of people milling around. Hard to stay 6-feet apart. Then, while I was waiting in line I got more and more anxious as people were crowding me. Luckily there was a gal who let me check out separately with cash, I think she saw how anxious I was getting!! I will continue to shop here, but until this whole COVID scare passes I will go on a weekday when there are less people. read more

Just stopped in to pick up a couple of avocados for dinner tonight and grabbed a County out of the two for a dollar box up front at the entrance, then I got inside and saw the big bin with avocados for a dollar each, picked up a couple but decided the two for a dollar where good for me. I went to the checkout and the guy said it would be $2.00, I said the box said they are two for $1.00, he said I was at the $1.00 each box and that was where I got them from, I told him I got them from the two for a dollar box but he insisted I got them out of the $1.00 each box, I said no and then told me I was being confrontational, I told him he was accusing me of lying of where I got the avocados from and he was being confrontational, he then said just take them, I said no and would never come back. I hope the owner reads this and has a talk with there employees on accusing a customer of something without proof of basically stealing in this case and then telling me to just take the $1.00 worth of avocados. This was probably the sixth time buying very nice produce there, sorry it will be my last! read more
