I had a really disappointing experience with Island Cruisers. When I received the bike, both tires…read morewere very low on air, making the bike unrideable. I called the company. No one answered and I was sent to voicemail. I left a message and did not receive a response. I loaded the bike into the car and went to Hilton Head Outfitters, where they kindly inflated both tires for me. I then went out for a bike ride. About a mile and a half out, I heard a loud springing sound from the rear of the bike, like the fender had fallen off. When I pulled over, I discovered the back tire was completely flat. The bike was unrideable and I had to walk it back to the Palmetto Dunes General Store, where I locked it up and walked the rest of the way back to my condo. I spoke to a woman at Island Cruisers the following morning. Instead of apologizing for my experience and offering to make it right, she told me the bike was in good condition when it was dropped and that I must've ridden over something, an interesting response given that I had not ridden the bike at the time I discovered the flat tires. She claimed the photograph of the bike identifying where it was located in the garage proved the tires weren't flat. Of course, there was no one sitting on the bike or squeezing the tires at the time the photo was taken so this claim is utter nonsense. The only positive in the entire experience is that they did issue a full refund. However, that was a small consolation. That they would blame the customer instead of considering the possibility that the crew dropped off the bike without thoroughly checking it out speaks volumes.

One afternoon around 3:30, we started calling around to rent bikes for our two teenage sons. Atlantic Bike Rentals came through for us -- they had two bikes available, and the price was fantastic. We were able to rent both bikes for three days for just $60. The gentleman who helped us was incredibly friendly and made the whole process easy. A nice added perk: they even came to pick up the bikes on the day we were heading home. I can't say enough great things about this place -- we will definitely be back!

Then spoke to the one who delivered, "I delivered them personally and your 5 bikes are outside the gate." While on call, my husband and kids are roaming the property searching for them. They found them inside the gate...guy on phone, " oh yeah, I had 2 orders and left one inside"...no apologies for our hour locating bikes. Fourth, we finally hope on to ride...within 1/4 mile 3 of the seats would NOT stay up (mind you...we've done 20-30 mile trail rides for 15+ years...we know how a seat clamp works). Ond bike then locks up and the back wheel won't turn". Fifth...we call AGAIN, now 2 hours into our adventure and 1/4 mile from condo. They will bring us 4 NEW bikes. Guaranteed to work.... My husband and I get frustrated. 3 people have grease on them, we call and try to get a refund....Nope! They absolutely won't budge. Six...they bring the NEW bikes. Which arent new at all. Lady was very nice do we set off again... it works, but it's getting late, so we cut our ride short. Seven next day we ride again. My daughter is having trouble steating out each time she has to come to a complete stop. We just assume ots her...then I'm riding behind her and notice... the pedals are going 5 full revolutions before chain engages!!! They bring us a new bike AGAIN. No refunds, no discounts for inconvenience, no apologies...guy starts telling me that it was our fault for the first few cslls... because we couldnt find the bikes in the spot they told us, which is NOT where they were. Anyway...old bikes, not just no customer service, but mean customer service, expect issues. They do give you "another" (not NEW OUT OF THE WAREHOUSE) bike each time you have an issue.

I left a tentative reservation with a very polite girl, to give me time to finalize with our group. The next day, when we called back ready to make payments, it took five phone calls to get an answer during business hours, and then they told us our earlier reservation had never been written down. Then they said they were too busy to take our order at the time, and would call us back. When they finally did call us back, they no longer had the bikes or child attachments that we needed, even though we had given them all the information the day before. There was no apology or acknowledgement of their mistake in not recording our reservation. Overall, this company gave us terrible customer service, poor attention to detail, and lazy management. Definitely shop elsewhere for your bikes on Hilton Head!
