Another successful rental from Avis, this time at the Kansas City Airport. I reserved my rental months ahead from Avis' website. Being presidential club member, I received upgrade for the rental that was a newer SUV, less than 6,000 miles. The rental area is separate from the airport terminal, but free buses run every 4-5 minutes. The Avis is pretty nice that even has a good sitting area with couches. The car was ready for pickup, so I didn't have to go to the counter. The car was parked at the designated spot, perfectly cleaned, all features fully functional. I used the car for four days. We drove it for about 500 miles. There was no issues with the car at all. On the day of return, I filled the gas tank and took the car to the designated drop-off area. The return was processed in couple of days and I got the receipt in the email. Overall was really happy with Avis rental again. read more

I wish I could leave negative stars on this location. We rented a sports coupe and pre-paid. When we got to the Kansas City airport Avis however, they gave me a Mercedes SUV for some reason & the license pplate in the system was different by one digit than the actual license plate. They said "no worries" & "it's not a big deal" as we drove away. We returned the car at 3pm on Sunday, the Avis lady said to leave the keys in the console and we were good to go, and flew home to our home state. Tuesday morning rolls around and the car is still open on my Avis account. Wednesday morning rolls around and my credit card is charged an additional $1233 for not returning the car. You can't get ahold of anyone at this actual location and it keeps transferring to the national number. I've been an Avis Preferred customer for years and use Avis multiple times a month. I WILL NEVER GIVE THE KANSAS CITY AIRPORT AVIS MY BUSINESS AGAIN. I had to cancel my card, open a dispute, and now I have to wait 7 business days to find out what happened with Avis. Godawful service. read more

Easy check in experience. Picked up my car right away and was out the door within minutes. The staff assigned me a Hyundai EV, and I enjoyed driving it. Easy drop off process as well. No issues. read more

I returned my rental car to the Avis Kansas City location 4.5 days ago, and it still has not been checked in. Because of this failure, Avis attempted to charge me an additional $600 for a rental that was only four hours, used to get from the St. Louis airport to the Kansas City airport. At drop-off, I followed staff instructions to park the vehicle and leave the keys. No inspection was performed, and I was told nothing further was required. Despite this, the location failed to close the rental properly, creating a billing issue that should never have occurred. Customers should not be financially penalized due to internal process breakdowns or delayed check-ins. I strongly recommend confirming your vehicle is formally checked in before leaving this location to avoid unnecessary charges and stress. read more

This was the most terrible experience I've ever had. I am Handicap. I have peripheral neuropathy in both legs. I was going into Kansas City for my father's on hospice. I had set up to rent a car with hand controls, thinking I was going to get a new vehicle a nice new vehicle instead, it was like a runner rack. The windshield was cracked. The interior was filthy. The exterior was filthy it reeked of nasty cigarette smoke and all the employees just stood around and said well you know that's all we have. I was renting this car so I could haul my mother and my sister around while I was there. I couldn't even let them into the car it reeks so bad and it was so filthy and then two of the tires were below the inflation that they should be and the low air pressure signal came on, and I couldn't even see the speedometer. Then it was misty on our way to the airport, so I turned on the windshield wipers. They were so worn out that it just smeared the window and made it very dangerous to drive Avis at the Kansas City airport. Our major discriminators against Handicap people. I called them multiple times to try to try to get some answers of why this car was in such bad shape. I've never heard back from them. They one time I talked to a customer service and they offered to give us $100 back which we've never saw it . I don't If Avis as a company is like this but sure seems like they are a bunch of shyster's. It was the worst experience I could ever of experience. I wouldn't tell my worst enemy to rent a car from Avis. It was horrible. They are horrible people they were busy looking at dog videos on their phones instead of helping out the customers it was a terrible terrible experience. read more

Don't use this company. In Kansas rural where farms are. Plus the weather, Avis said the interior was dirty and charged 250. Rented a larger vehicle as well. Enterprise never has charged me a cleaning fee. Don't use this company go to anywhere else. Was only one person for a week. read more

I pick this Avis location due to the pick up and drop off times. They also close at 1am which is another plus, however you have to be careful when dropping your car off here. I've been charged twice for a late fee for car rentals I brought back by the drop off time. I will say they are very good about accommodating me for rental upgrades due to my Avis presidential status. The Avis Prefer counter is normally closed when I pick my cars up but they were open this night. You also have to be careful with the electric cars, they don't tell you if the car you're picking up is a gas or electric car. Which I feel is very important decision on what the person is renting the car for. I only recommend renting from location if you're picking up or dropping off outside of normal Avis business hours. read more

Wish I could give zero stars. Apparently the desk lady was having a bad Sunday and was moving at the pace of a snail. Was extremely rude and told me I had to be serviced by the manager. She walked me out to the preferred member checkin building, where the manager proceeded to "refuse my rental" but was unable to tell me why. Apparently the desk lady walking me over to the manager "caused a scene" but could not tell me anything I did wrong because she took no time to investigate what happened. Absolute jaw dropping experience for me. Also gave me a flyer to call customer service for a refund and it didn't even have the customer service line listed. Absolute joke read more

After years of negative reviews you'd think Avis would take notice and get rid of the problem employees, but apparently they haven't. Prepaid online at a corporate rate yet the counter employee not only demands an excessive security deposit but quietly rebooks me for the full upgrade. She was incessantly rude and condescending in her attitude. Can't say her name, (She became somewhat hostile when I tried to get her name off her badge which she had hidden in her pocket) but of the only two there, she wasn't the white woman. I've had similar aggravating interactions with this woman in the past too. The car she "upgraded" me to (without asking me first and lorded it over me like she was graciously doing me some kind of favor), had electrical problems. Unprofessional, rude, incompetent disrespectful and downright criminal to purposely inflate my charges. Avoid AVIS at MCI airport at all costs. read more

Reserved car and when got to the counter they said it was 1 1/2 hour wait to get the car. So unacceptable

I am leaving one star only because I have to leave something. A $320 rental became a $898 rental. When I returned the car, the employee checking in the car did not and would not look at the gas gauge, no matter how many times I asked him to, and I was charged $126 in gas after spending $45 to fill it up. Priceline "taxes and fees" that were included went up considerably. I was charged for insurance that I declined, concession recovery fee, customer facility charge, arena fund, transportation fee, vehicle license fee, and a late fee due to flooding we encountered on our way back. Rental cars, nation wide, are subject to the level of care that the renters have in stiff that will be used by others (i.e. consideration of others). Well, you don't need special glasses to note that in this day and age, every single person is totally out for themselves, and themselves only. So, you'll have to just (sadly) expect and assume your rental car is going to have been beat up. And yea, sadly, because remember about 2-3 decades ago when rental cars were actually "nice"? Like it was fun to rent cars. The newest models, well taken care of ... sort of like a preview for a car you might want to buy. Anyways... people today are the worst and they treat things they own terribly - so imagine how they treat something they don't own? I had no choice but to use Avis. I typically use BUDGET, and have had decent results with them here in KCMO, but I travel (and rent cars) on behalf of the Government and the Government required lowest logical costs when selecting hotels, flights, cars etc. This trip, after having completed 6 other trips here quarterly... AVIS out of nowhere was the lowest logical cost. So I had no choice but to use them. I arrive at airport, grab bags then head over to Avis. Now then, I have to select "intermediate", again, lowest fare, but I already know for a fact intermediate is small - like they also have compact and sub compact categories, right? But a Toyota Corolla (yea the TINY Corolla), is considered intermediate... so wtf is a compact???? Anyways... I know this is too small because as usual, 3 of us (all adult men with 1-2 bags each) had to share the one car. So I explain to counter, hey guys I can't reserve any higher than intermediate, but can I get something bigger due to situation? The Avis counter was not even acknowledging my request. They kept just repeating "you reserved an intermediate sir". Ok cool. Toyota Corolla it is. I go to get the car, way out in the lot (not in the covered section where the "fancy" sedans and SUVs that definitely were available were. And as soon as I get in the car, it hits me - SMOKE. Dang it. Nothing worse than that stale smoke smell. And then, as I decided "whatever - I'll just have the lady note it on my way out"... the lady on the way out didn't even ask me for the initial inspection and just waived me through from her little movie watching shack. I had also noticed, and lends to the smoke smell, to giant perfectly round holes in the front seat. Burn holes at that. So I exited, made a left, and turned right back into the return. At the return, I showed the guy the burns, had him verify the smell, and we noted the car was missing fluids (like no wiper fluid at all). And he was like my gosh so sorry - go get another car. Went back inside, now having had to unload my luggage again, and went back to desk, waited in line again, and started over. Same guy even - so I'm like sure - he will remember me from 10 minutes ago, he will feel bad on behalf of Avis for giving me a car that was unfit for service, and now he will give me a car or suv I need to accommodate my colleagues and I. I mean, I didn't make up the smell, the fact it didn't even have fluids, or the burn marks (and I sure was not going to be put into a situation where I was charged for that)... but when I got to counter and explained it, and had the Return clerk verify it - the same guy didn't even apologize, but instead kept insisting "you reserved an intermediate sir". I was like wow - not even a "sorry I have you a car that was damaged" - NOTHING. So, back to the intermediate I go. This time, HONDA HR-V. Even smaller somehow than the Corolla. And wow - I feel as if whomever had it last, stuck their index fingers in a small jar or honey, and then stuck it in a small jar of Vaseline, and then proceeded to use said index finger to touch of single button in the entire vehicle. And then just to make sure we knew of their or presence, they added water spots and sandy / linty / dusty shavings to every single piece of plastic and cup holder etc - again, people don't care at all about you; only them. So, why give Avis a 1-star because someone else dirtied the car? For one, because of the service provided as mentioned above. And two, I mean, CLEAN THE DANG CAR AVIS!!!! Wtf!?!?? I'm really displeased with (people) and Avis At Kansas City International Airport read more

I'm super disappointed in this location. We had a rental car reservation and they are supposed to be open until 2am. We showed up at 1:56am (our plane was delayed) and lo and behold, the people decided to close up shop early. So here we are, with three young children, staying "the night" in the rental car facility without a car. All customer service at their 1888 number said was, "we can't help you. You'll have to wait until the location opens back up at 7:30am". Yup that sounds like a grand time with three kids in the middle of the night to do. Ridiculous. If you say you're going to be open until 2am, then stay open until 2am. Also-- see image for the false advertisement. It says you can scan the QR code to pick your car, skip the counter, no contact and express exit from the lot. Lies, lies, lies. I went through the process and it says "now go to the counter and the customer service rep will have to give you your keys". How is this considered "no counters" or "no contact"?!? read more

If I could give less than one star I would. I will tell everyone I know and anyone I don't know that will listen to me, not to ever rent a car from these people. I rented a car after an accident and because of delays with insurance, I had to extend my rental. I extended my rental until 12/30/2025 and everything was fine. They took my money and charged a fee for adjusting the reservation, which is to be expected. On 12/28/2025, my situation changed and I was able to return the car. I called the reservation line and the guy I spoke to asked me what day and time I needed to return the car. I told him it would be back at lot by 4:30pm on 12/28 and he said, "ok, your reservation has been adjusted. I can't tell you how much your refund will be. They will tell you that when you return it." I believed him. I got the car back by the indicated time and when I walked to the counter, the lady asked if I was returning, I said yes, she said "did you leave the keys in it?" I said yes. She said "that's all we need." Avis has now charged me for having the car until 12/31/2025, which is a day past my original planned day to return. I have been in contact with them at least four times disputing the charges for three days I did not have the car, and they refuse to refund those days because I don't have a flight itinerary or ride share receipt to show them that I was there at 4:30 on the 28th. I don't have any of that because I live in Kansas City and rented the car locally because of my accident. The refuse to pull the call recording where the rep told me that he adjusted my reservation and they won't check security cameras to see me dropping the car off and standing at their counter on the day and time I was supposed to be there. Nobody should EVER rent from Avis if this is the way do business. read more

Avis - Car Rental Near Me - Kansas City, Missouri

I used to be a Avis Preferred member for many years, but stopped using them primarily a few years ago, mostly because my new job used National. So, when visiting the KC area and needing a car and National was out, I had to use Avis as backup and thought it would be fine... But... So, I can't stand these "car rental centers" as I should be able to walk from the plane to the car, not have to wait for/take a bus, in both directions. Also, prior to getting there, they texted me letting me know my parking spot number and vehicle info. I got to this vehicle which was so dirty, it looked like it was sitting there for many weeks. I didn't know until I got on the highway that the passenger mirror was pushed in, not out, so it was useless! Once I parked and went to pull that mirror out, I then noticed the messed up passenger door... with all sorts of duct tape all over it and the back bumper was dented in. This terrible vehicle with no features had like 36,000+ miles on it... ridiculous!! It was poor to drive... it was quick, but even after pulling that mirror out, it appears like the mirror was replaced with another, odd mirror and it didn't' provide a useable, decent view. I had many other issues, including the poor check-in when I returned to the airport. They sent me an email asking about my experience and I outlined this and a little more, only to have them reply with the typical "thanks for your feedback, we'll share this with our staff" type of message (tho, theirs was more elaborate than this). Regardless, we all know very little, if any change will occur. I'll stick to National! read more

Do not rent from this Avis, it's easy for you to get your car but drop off is completely different story. 12/14/25 Nobody around to check your car in, front desk tells you to leave keys in car or drop them in drop box and someone will take care of the close out later. I recently rented a car from Avis MCI in Kansas City. I made the reservation on my Avis App and received what I felt was a good price so I rented the vehicle. When I went to the counter all I did was show them my reservation. I gave them my DL and credit card and got keys to the car I wanted to rent. I returned the vehicle and was told I would receive any email with my bill. When I received my bill I was shocked to see an extra $33 charge that was also taxed at 8.725%. I sent an email to Avis customer service since I could not talk to a human being at the airport or at Avis customer service requesting the charge be removed. They sent me an email that said: "The following list shows all the additional charges attached to this contract: SELECT AND GO UPGRADE: $33.00USD 33.00USD/PER DAY With Select and Go customers now have the option to keep their pre-assigned vehicle, exchange it or upgrade it for an additional daily charge. If the vehicle is not exactly what they want, they can now select a different one from either the Select and Go Exchange area or the Select and Go Upgrade area. Because our records show the services were accepted at the counter at the time of pickup, we determined the charges to be valid.' This response is a fabrication. I made the reservation on the Avis App and the charge was not there. No one at the counter asked me if I wanted this charge. I believe this is an unethical practice that Avis does to unwitting customers. They add charges that were not requested and assume most customers will just pay their bill and not know about this charge. Avis has yet to resolve this issue. It is a horrible and unacceptable business practice and I strongly discourage everyone from every renting a vehicle from Avis when there are numerous other options with companies that do not try to add additional fees to their vehicles in a very deceptive way. read more

This was a rental at Kansas City International Airport in early April 2025. The original reservation was for an intermediate car. At the pickup counter, the agent gave me an agreement for a Toyota Camry but didn't make me aware or point out it was an upgrade. Without seeing any refund since, I had to call Customer Service again two times. FILTHY CAR, REEKED OF WEED AND HEAVY SMOKE The good: 1.Check in was easy and the customer service rep was nice 2. Return was easy, address for the GPS took us right to the door and Ginny the return rep out there was polite, funny and understanding THE BAD: 1. It was almost 11pm when we arrived, pitch dark, we get our keys open the rear hatch to load and are bombarded with heavy weed and smoke smell. We were exhausted and still had a 2hr drive ahead so we decided to push ahead hoping opening the windows would air it out, no such luck. When we arrived at our hotel I borrowed a bottle of industrial odor eliminator from the hotel, I doused the inside of the vehicle and it set all night and several times after over the next few days, did absolutely nothing, we were stuck driving that vehicle all weekend reeking of weed and smoke, I should also mention that the gf has asthma and a several times had to cover her mouth and nose with her jacket to keep from tripping an asthma attack. 2. The vehicle was filthy outside, bugs all over the front end, mirrors so stained with water spots and dirt you could barely see, inside windshield was so covered in smoke residue that I had to stop to clean it so I could safely drive with headlights coming at me. 3. Both plugs on the bumpers for towing the vehicle were missing Now I its possible that taking our time to go back inside and redoing everything to get another car may have fixed this issue but we shouldn't have too. Even Ginny the return rep said that interior smell was horrible and we had the windows down and was very apologetic even though it wasn't her fault, she said she took $50 off of our bill but I haven't seen anything yet. Doubt we'll use Avis again unless we don't have a choice, its just not worth the headaches read more
