ROACH PROBLEM! I am leaving this review for future residents, while the staff at Avery are amazing and incredibly helpful there has been a roach issue that seems to be uncontrollable. While I get one or two roaches sometimes slip in from the outside, this is worse. There is a roach infestation in this building. I wish I had known prior to moving in so leaving this here for future residents. read more

*had nothing to do with avery* I am giving a review mind you I have never lived here. I saw a post on Facebook market of the apartment available for $1,900 plus first month deposit total of $3,800 (2bed/2bath). We were given full access to the building and unit itself (317) once we were done checking out the place we checked out the whole apartment. "David" then sends me an application via email. For some reason we wanted to check the yelp reviews and we noticed someone else was a victim to this same situation so we called Avery leasing office directly and figured out that it was a scam. Please be careful and caution of this to anyone looking for an apartment 3rd party. It was too good to be true. read more

I have loved every minute of living here. The building is gorgeous with string lights that light up at night. Every single last neighbor I've met has been friendly (I'm a native Angeleno) this is not normal. There were a few minor issues with outlets that didn't work. We submitted a request to have them fixed and I was blown away by how quickly they not only resolved the issue but how friendly and happy to help Abraham and the electrician were. I also adore the amount of greenery they've incorporated into the building there are trees and well groomed bushes everywhere giving it a park like feel. The search for the right apartment was long and hard but having found Avery was worth it Rico who helped us with the process of getting into the apartment to everyone else in the office that's always courteous. read more

I've lived at the Avery for over 3 years and have loved it! Best apartment building I've lived in in LA. The office management, specifically Nanci, are so kind and helpful. They communicate quickly. The maintenance staff is the best I've come across. Ray is so quick and nice. Always friendly and helpful. Abraham is the best. He helped us with a flooding situation from our toilet (not our fault) over the thanksgiving holiday when he was off and should've been enjoying his holiday. He showed up quickly and got it handled efficiently. We are so grateful to him. Their response time is so fast. The pool, courtyard and gym are all great additions to the space. I'll be sad when I move out of this building. read more

This place is newer - built in 2014. Well designed, not on a main street, well run and has a great staff. The only big downside are a handful of people here who take advantage of the place - but then those people are everywhere. The building includes a 24-hr gym, pool, underground parking, two new elevators that are fast and work, quiet full-size stacked washer dryer, air conditioning, and an onsite repair person. The gym equipment is new with TV's built into the units that usually have them like bikes and elipticals. Bathroom in the gym, free coffee in the office. Garbage and recycle chutes on all floors, beautiful landscaping. It's kept very clean, although keep in mind there are lots of apartments in the building. Maintenance is always quick and great. The floors a wood-like vinyl that is gentle to walk on and very durable. Countertops are a quartz product, non-porous and don't soak up everything like granite. The walls are about as noise-blocking as an apartment can get. The doors have an interesting electrical key that can be re-programmed when a person moves out. Downsides: the fridge isn't side-by-side. Instead it's the freezer on top, fridge on bottom. No hot tub. Lots of kids on the west side of the building that are very noisey at times. When compared to other places in the Valley - this one is pretty nice. Thank you Danny and the rest of the staff for all your hard work and patience. read more

I have been very impressed so far with this place. The grounds are nice. There is a trash shoot and recycling shoot on each floor. Everyone who I have dealt with at this complex has been terrific. The person I've dealt with the most is Nanci. She has made this move super amazing and easy. I'm very happy here. read more

My husband and I have lived here since they opened and we've really enjoyed our time here. But the 5 stars is specifically for Ray the Maintenance Technician. He is so kind any time we see him and he always responds to maintenance requests really quickly. Also, when we were supposed to move our cars from the parking garage so they could repaint the spots, I had forgotten and Ray came up to our apartment to remind us so we didn't get stuck with a huge tow bill. I've left a review on google after a few months of living at Avery. Now it's been nearly a year since my family and I moved in - and my feeling about Avery & the staff only get better. The staff has continued to go above and beyond to make living here a pleasant and relaxing experience. In particular the maintenance guy on site, Ray - has been great. Not only does Ray show up in a timely manner to address all issues or concerns from us. He is also extremely polite, delightful and trustworthy to have in our home to preform any routine repairs. To sum up my review: Don't move here! It will raise our rent. read more

Why so few reviews for Essex's Avery in Valley Village? I can think of four plausible reasons. 1) The Avery is new! The building just opened in 2014. Who knew? The massive landscaping has not fully grown in yet for more privacy, as every unit has an outdoor area. The elevators are brand new, fast and silent. 2) Too good to be true, so don't yelp to raise the rents. Over & Under Washer/Dryer--true full size, functional, and relatively quiet. Super high ceilings for a great open feeling and lots of vertical space for storage. The halls are very wide with an open feel: Every several units the inside hallway wall opens up to a view of the inner landscaping and sky. Even the Elevator areas have windows and art work. Nice lounge. 3) Super staff: great listening skills from caring professionals. A gentle focus & feeling that they are always there to serve you, to make Avery as perfect a home as possible. Again, too good to be true. 4) Backbone: If you continually want to get away with breaking the few sensible posted rules: Professional and timely reminders, warnings, fines, or evictions are appropriately issued as needed. No place is perfect, but the caring staff and modern condominium style design with an open cheery feel inside & out is all I need to live here and be happy. read more

I'll start off with if I could give them ten stars I would!! My wife and I have lived here for 15 months and wish we could stay longer but because of personal budgets and goals of buying a house one day we need to downsize. This place is new - built in 2014. Very well designed, open BIG hallways, BIG doors, BIG elevators to move your stuff in!!! Apartments are crazy BIG! The building has a 24-hr gym, pool, underground parking, quiet full-size stacked washer dryer, air conditioning, garbage and recycle chutes on all floors. Awesome pool with grill area and a huge firepit!! Beautiful landscaping!! Apartment interior - the floors are awesome: a wood-like vinyl that is awesome to walk on. The kitchen is so spacious!! as well as the bathroom's! The walls are about as noise-blocking as an apartment can get. Nice sized deck and plenty of closet space...that's coming from my wife:) Downsides: in my opinion...I cant think of one! Now that's just the building but the gem of the place is the staff. Maintenance was always there for us when we needed them! Eddie is truly amazing! So friendly and willing to do what ever needs to get done. The place is pretty much spotless as Eddie and his staff are always washing down the place as well as vacuuming/cleaning...Eddie seems to take so much pride in his work and cant say enough about him!! As small as a loose handle on the fridge he would be there...I usually wasn't even around because of the TRUST I felt with him and his staff! Thank you Eddie!! The management: Danny & Denise made us feel at home from the day we got there to the day we left!! They were always there when we needed them whether in person or by phone...they serve free coffee and treats in their office!! how cool is that! I would always see them walking around checking the place out making sure everything is just the way it should be....because they actually really care!! I moved to the Avery apartments, when they were brand new. The 2 bedrm. apartment is a good size and it Is landscaped beautifully with a great pool and bbg grills. The only negative experience living there was that I had a corner unit where the plumbing kept getting clogged up. BUT, They get you into the lease and keep raising the rent every year. In two years the rent increased to $300 more. My mortgage is the same amount as what my rent was there... IT'S A RIP OFF!!!! read more

Poorly managed property. Hallways and stairways are dirty, carpets are ripped up, funky odors. The "management" office is no help. After living here for 3 years, I made the choice to move out because of problems with my upstairs neighbors. The management office had knowledge of them hosting dance practices at all hours of the day and did nothing about it. Imagine how loud and frustrating it would be if your upstairs neighbors held group dance practice late at night. Constant banging and stomping (keep in mind the living areas are all hardwood, not carpet)...and the management office was unable to take any action. I realized they are incompetent and unwilling to do their job, so I moved out after 3 years and close to $100k spent on rent. This was an ongoing issue for about 8 months. Common sense would be to relocate the neighbors causing a disturbance. I ended up having to make contact with the neighbors myself and that only made things worse. I guess the office was waiting for the neighbors to come crashing through my ceiling to take some sort of action. read more

My lease is almost up & I usually move because I get tired of places quick but I just asked about renewing because It's so great here. Everything is upgraded & modern, not to mention how close it is to hollywood and all the major freeways! super convenient. The building is new, pool is huge & a very peaceful neighborhood in a residential area which is awesome . Parking has always been an issue everywhere I have lived except here, there is always plenty of visitor parking spots and easy street parking. The staff is so nice and extra helpful, anything you need fixed is done right away and they always are prompt on returning calls and answering any questions. The Avery is Def A1! BY FAR THE BEST LIVING EXPERIENCE I HAVE HAD IN LA. I have lived in Hollywood, and many parts of San Fernando Valley. It is a quiet, clean and a calm living community. My requests for any maintenance were fulfilled the same day, or the latest by the following day. Janice is one of the sweetest people at the management office and she made my process of moving in extremely easy. I had stayed at another property with Essex property management and she made sure that it was easy for me to make the transition with all of my work and travel. Emails are answered right away. The maintenance staff and cleaning staff are extremely friendly. The pool and meeting area is great for hosting some family and friends. I used the gym quite frequently to get in some of my workouts. If you run out of coffee...? You can swing by the front office and grab one. There is also a great meeting room on the second floor which is more like a townhouse with ALL of the amenities and I wish I would have utilized it more. You get what you pay for and some. If it is within your budget and you want a quiet building surrounded by a predominantly quiet neighborhood, then this is a good deal. Even a lot of my neighbors were sweet and kind people. Bait and switch. I called in about an ad I saw on Craigslist. Scheduled an appointment to see the unit- got several emails confirming as well as a reminder. Arrived to see the unit and guess what? The move-in special was "just" taken by someone else. There were only two units that the "special" applied to, yet we viewed four vacant units. The leasing person, Nanci, said they had another special coming up... as well as more people moving out, but what she didn't mention is the rent on the other units were $200+ more. Even with the move-in special for this area, the rent was high, but to tack on a few more hundred with no move-in special... absolutely not worth it. To make matters worse, she tried to push off their "sister" properties on us. I get the leasing world is stressed due to COVID but be transparent and ethical with people from the jump. Don't dangle a shiny "move-in-special" and then switch it up once someone takes time out of their day to visit your property. Disappointed. read more
