It was completed in 1923. It has a Neoclassical architecture with a central block flanked by slightly recessed wings. The features horizontal brickwork on the first story and five tall vertical windows on the upper levels and a flat roofline. It was designed by Erle G. Stillwell who is also responsible for the Henderson (NC) City Hall and the Sumter (SC) City Hall plus a large number of theaters across the southeast. (Needs to be renovated.) District Court is in the BASEMENT fo the building. Roadside parking available, but you made need to drive a block or two to find it. DON'T TRY TO BRING A CELL PHONE IN, as you'll have to turn around and walk back to the car. There also is a security checkpoint, so leave your knives, brass knuckes & mace in the car. Beautiful part of the state. Easy to find. Nice people.

The current Watauga County Courthouse is the fourth courthouse to serve the county and was completed in 1968. The building showcases a modernist style with buff-colored stone and concrete. It features a flat roofline, a recessed central entrance, and symmetrical window groupings. A front addition was completed in 1982. Parking is available directly behind the courthouse and along Queen Street in metered spaces designated for courthouse visitors. The building is handicap accessible via the rear entrance. It is a two-story structure of gray concrete and glass in a modern style. This minimalist, functional design contrasts sharply with the county's earlier Neo-Classical courthouse from 1924. In recent years, the Justice Center underwent a significant expansion, adding wings to the north, east, and south sides while preserving the original structure at its core. Inside, the building houses both Superior and District Courts for the 25th Judicial District, serving Catawba, Burke, and Caldwell counties. I need it to add to statement for a criminal complaint for a different county in the same matter. I was told to come to the Court House for it. When I asked exactly what I would receive if I drove an hr. to the Court House I was told to hold. Been on hold for 25 minutes now. I'm sure they're hoping I'll hang up, but I won't. Zero concern for a non-lawyer 'newbie' to matters such as these. Zero accountabilty I'm sure. Typical gov't. employee attitude.

We politely asked the security staff at the entrance of District Court 10 a simple question about what to do.This certain security staff was intimidating, arrogant and very disrespectful to myself and my husband. Other individuals waiting in the area told me this is normal behavior for this security staff for "some people" We are Caucasian and in our 60s. My husband and myself are proffesionals. I am a BSN RN and my husband is a project manager. All other staff including security and clerks office staff were very pleasant and helpful. I don't understand why this court house would allow a staff to exhibit discrimination and disparity to selected people.
