I'm not 100% sure if the translation Google was providing of their menu were accurate or just interesting interpretations, but the vegetarian menu on their website came out translated as "For the flower understanders" - Okay, either way I'm in. It was a busy time in Hamburg in the middle of the Reeperbahn festival so we were worried about getting a table, but we were seated immediately upon arrival. Our server accomodated our English and even provided a menu in English. My sun had a mushroom pasta, which he thought was good, and I had a schnitzel dish made with a celery-based "meat." Now that didn't necessarily "sound" good, but it really was a thoughtful offering to give us a schnitzel-like experience in Germany. The potatoes it was served with were well cooked and added a nice heartiness to the meal. They also have a pea soup, usually served with meat but which can be prepared vegan upon request. Freudenhaus is on a side street, a short block off of the main Reeperbahn Rd. So, very easy to get to. If you're looking for authentic German food with vegetarian options, this is a great place to go.

For our entrees, we ordered the noodles with turkey breast and mushroom sauce. The starter - was really good! The combo of sweet and savory for the baked cheese on bread was a great way to start our meal and I'd highly recommend it. The starter can be quite filling so I think it's best to share this with 4 people. We were only 2 so we were definitely stuffed after finished the starter and our mains. For our entrees, we received the cooked pieces of turkey breast with the mushroom sauce over it and had a bowl of noodles that came separately. They cooked a 2 person of noodles for us so that was nice. So you add the noodles with the turkey and mushroom sauce as you see fit. It was really good but very filling. I had to get a little to go box as I think the cheese and noodles filled me up! Next to pay, this was the first time we actually had to get up and pay in the front. We were waiting around for a while trying to get the attention of our waitress only to have her politely tell us we are suppose to pay in the front. Interesting architectural features, clean, and tiny little boat models in the windows. They have 4 beers on tap (I think 3 were pils and one was a wheat, all nice choices). Prices were reasonable and the bartenders were super friendly and were able to communicate with us in English (well one could, anyway). They don't take cards. I've been here thrice and I always trieddifferent dishes and always left completely satisfied. It's not the cheapest place you can find, but probably one of the best in terms of quality. They've got a fixed menu for dinner and for lunch, one can order something from the latter at any time but in the evening it's slightly more expensive. I would recommend to try meat dishes, I still have to try fish but if you are into that there are probably a few better options in this area. Definitely try it, I wouldn't be surprised if you find yourself wanting to come back after the first visit.
