I was confused at the entrance because I didn't know where to go but I found out that a lot of the people just crowded at the door for no reason so I went in and went to the front desk and was checked in promptly. I was referred to Myranda from another mom who had an amazing haircut and I can say that I am so relieved to have found my new hair person! Myranda was so professional and she is amazing at what she does. She talked through the process, took her time, and was very thorough in throughout the whole process. I would not recommend the Aveda Institute in any way shape or form. I experienced botched color, uneven hair cuts but I kept going back. They had gotten the color right finally. Today I went and asked if they could do my root touch up in 2 hours that I was fine with leaving with wet hair. I explained it in the lobby then I had to explain it again I asked to skip the massage something I had previously skipped and was told they can't skip the "ritual" I was asked to leave not reschedule but leave. It is now far drive & I had the day off today. It takes the students forever to blow dry. It is so not worth saving a few dollars. read more

Been coming here for a few years now and my issue is not with the hair service but with scheduling. After my last appointment I made my NEXT appointment at the desk. When the time came for the appointment, I called to confirm the time and found out they didnt have me in the system and couldnt get me at all! I went elsewhere. A month later, I booked my next appointment on line and a day before the appointment, I called to cancel. I then received a text confirming my appointment so I called back a 2nd time to ensure it was canceled again. Finally on the day of the appointment I received a notice that I was a "no show". Had to call a 3rd time to confirm that I was not going to be charged / billed for their mistake. Hope this salon works out its scheduling issues. read more

I'm not one to complain, but after my experience at the Aveda Institute in Brandon, I feel obligated to warn others--especially those who value their skin and their time. I booked a facial hoping for a relaxing, rejuvenating experience. Instead, I was assigned to a young lady named Kadence, and quite frankly, I left feeling more stressed than when I arrived. From the moment I walked in, her demeanor was dismissive and borderline rude. No smile, no warmth--just a rushed "you can sit over there." There was no real consultation about my skin, no questions about sensitivities or concerns. Isn't that supposed to be standard practice? Throughout the facial, she seemed distracted and uninterested, as if she had somewhere else she'd rather be. She applied product with the gentleness of someone scrubbing a kitchen sink, and at one point, I'm almost certain she left the room for a good few minutes. I could hear whispering and giggling in the hallway. Extremely unprofessional. Afterwards, my face was blotchy and irritated, and she didn't even offer recommendations or aftercare instructions. Just wiped her hands and said, "You're all set." Excuse me? I've been getting facials for over 30 years, and I've never encountered someone so inattentive and immature. I understand this is a learning environment, but customer service and basic respect shouldn't be part of the curriculum--they should be common sense. I will absolutely not be returning if I know she's working. Management may want to take a closer look at who they're putting on the floor--some of these students clearly aren't ready. read more

The services provided by the students have been fine, but the customer service is horrendous. An instructor, I believe named Leticia, was beyond rude to me for denying a "complimentary service". First, I have NEVER been offered this option in the several times I had been there and I explained to her that I didn't want to receive the hand massage or scalp massage due to a medical issue. She immediately got an attitude with me. She then kept threatening that if I didn't get the "complimentary service" they would deny me getting the service I WAS paying for. I, again, tried to explain my situation, that I was only denying it due to a skin issue. She progressively kept getting more of an attitude, until I finally just refused ALL services. I feel bad for the student, since this 100% was on the instructor. I have also witnessed this instructor being rude to other customers and the students on other occasions. read more

Always a great experience. I am not someone who is very attached to their hair & would cry if it got messed up / had to go shorter than desired etc. So I always choose a student to practice on me. I have never once had a bad experience with them. The Master stylist / teacher Lee is amazing, she really makes sure that your desires for your hair are understood & ensures the goal is met. Paid money to have my hair destroyed. I had my hair originally highlighted but my roots grew out so I needed to highlighted up top- same color. At this moment my hair is different colors because when she was highlighting, she pulled some of them out too early, then the instructor said it's not the right color and she re-bleached some but not others. She proceeded to wash off the bleach is scorching hot water, which I know from my previous hair dresser, you're not supposed to do. She then proceeded to give me the worst haircut of my life. I had to pay money elsewhere to get it fixed because the haircut made no sense. She cut it at my face then trimmed the rest. It had ZERO blend. Lastly, she burned and broke off all my hair when "styling" it with a very hot blow dryer. I now have a ton of broken hair pieces. My hair felt like plastic straw after I had to pay for hair treatment at another place to even try to partially fix it. Two stars because you know what you're getting into but I truly thought the person overseeing the student would step in if she saw something bad. Nope. Last time I will be going. read more

I had a facial along with 2 of my friends. I asked the esthetician in training for a recommendation for 2 products to buy. She suggested a serum and a moisturizer. I realize now neither product is appropriate for my skin type. The moisturizer is actually drying. I contacted the office and they refused to exchange the moisturizer for the correct formulation. The instructors are lazy and don't want to touch up the haircut to try and blend the haircut for a male haircut. For an institute they don't teach a variety of hair styling. They have a discount on some services with foundations students on Saturdays, so I booked an appointment a week in advance with what the website said was a foundations student. 2 or 3 days prior to the appointment, I get a text message to confirm the appointment time, which I do. 1 day prior to the appointment, I get a phone call for the same thing. I say, "Yes. I already confirmed that by text." The girl on the phone says, "Oh, we don't actually get those. It's just automated." Then turn your text system off and stop bothering me until it works properly. ‍ I show up and have my service done, a shampoo and blow dry. The girl I'm working with doesn't know how to blow dry my textured hair to be straight. (If you primarily only teach to cater to a certain type of hair, just say that beforehand. I'm very good at managing my expectations.) Three other people, including an educator, offer her some helpful tips and she gets through it, but my hair feels mildly sticky to the touch when she's done. I say this, and the educator touches it and is like, "Oh, that must be the product she used. You just don't want your hair to be hard." (Aveda Smooth Infusion, btw.) The end. Like that's a satisfactory answer. No offer to rewash to get this sticky product out of my hair or anything. Whatever. I go to pay and they give me a price, which is not the discounted price, and I ask about it. Turns out, the foundations student I booked with wasn't available for whatever reason (they had recommended I don't book with their online system because that can be flaky also ), so they had manually rebooked me with someone else who was a masters student, which made my service ineligible for the discount. Nobody thought to mention that BEFORE I sat down? So, you'll call, email, AND text me to confirm the appointment, but not to inform me of relevant changes to said appointment? Ok. And maybe this part is just me, but a huge benefit of having someone else wash my hair is getting a good scalp massage. These ladies wash my hair (and touch it in general throughout the service) like they are being careful to not detach a mannequin head from its base. Giving this 2 stars because I came before, for the first time, and worked with Autumn, who was 5 stars all the way around and zero of these complaints apply to her, but I neglected to leave a review. I actually came back only because of my experience with Autumn. A non-textured hair friend initially suggested this place as a hair day for our mixed race, mixed gender friend group, and I was very skeptical. (There was a whole situation with the guy from our group, but that's his review to give, not mine.) My follow-up experiences with Casey and Madison confirmed ALL my initial reservations and dragged my overall experience way down and I won't be going back. read more

I got a trim and a "blowout" however my hair is naturally curly and was cut curly - never happens ... my hair was not trimmed instead was cut way too short and my layers uneven. not to mention I had three people cut my hair... the instructor, the student and the second instructor that stepped in and my blow was not a blow out as I had to wash and blow out my hair myself after I left. honestly really disappointed. read more

Well my hair turned out not the way it was supposed to to. Strawberry blonde on roots was not the correct color! The highlights were supposed to to cover that area. We had a lengthy discussion before hand, but it still didnt get it done right. Also, underneath on the back, there was a ugly, bright, yellow splash that shouldn't have been there Update: I had to drive 45 minutes back there a few days later and they redid it for me. They took the strawberry blonde away and made it a light brown, which still isn't the way it was supposed to be, but that's all they could do that day they didn't want to over process my hair! They did not charge me as previously discussed . I left a $15 tip. The stylist tried her best to work with me on everything. The supervisor tried to listen to me and figure out the best solution . The only thing is next time I believe I should get a 10% discount since the highlights were supposed to have been done and they weren't done right. Overall, I'm happy with this salon. It takes three or four hours. That's the only thing but they're nice and they try their best. I will be going back again.:) nice atmosphere too! read more
