We tried to order a pizza from somewhere else and it failed to arrive. We had been looking forward to a night in watching the telly. We were desperate.
On our way out looking for someone nearby to sell us a takeaway pizza, we passed this place, but hadn't seen this on any of the usual online spots; this must be brand new. A later piece of research suggested this was indeed the case, it seems to have opened in September 13.
We spoke to the chef, skipping over Polish and instead exchanging a chat in his pidgin English and our pidgin Italian, till we established what we were looking for--he was particularly insistent that we try the 'special' mushrooms they had in. We're not really the kind that need to be asked that kind of thing twice.
We then dealt with (presumably) the owner, who took our order (again), and suggested a glass of wins while we waited. It was really good, crisp, dry white, the kind we've not really had here.
To business: this place takes itself seriously. While we were waiting we say the chef making fresh red sauce, and it was patently clear that all the toppings were fresh as paint, right down to the ham slicing machine.
We got our pizzas home, and we're delighted. The pepper on the diavola was hot and fresh, just the right amount of cheese, the sausage was rich, and better than the floppy, rubbery pepperoni that passes for sausage in many places. The dough was also springy and light.
The other pizza, the special funghi with stracchino cheese, was possibly the best pizza we've ever taken home. That could be hyperbole, but like I said, we were desperate. Either way, this is a spot that's really serious about its pizza, and I'm really glad we found it. read more
