Avant Community Garden was the second community garden founded by Dr. Ed Swenson in 2010. His beliefs were simple, " developed an community food base system by hands-on learning. Most importantly to provide learning opportunities for everyone.
Today Avant Gardens is an learning center. Classes and workshops are held here to teach local residence new techniques in organic gardening and sustainability. I was pleasantly surprised as to the size of the garden. This garden is by far larger than most community gardens in the Sacramento Area.
When working in an community garden, one must learn to cooperate with one another, have mutual respect for one another, and to take only what one can use. Any extra food can always be given away to family members, friends, or to the local food bank. It's time to break out the shovel. Happy gardening ! read more
