Best stylists in the area, equally good for both sexes, nice friendly staff and atmosphere, always made to feel welcome and important. I usually stick with the same stylist but over the years I've tried several and each has been as good as the others. Well trained stylists and great products on sale. Only drawback is the tiny reception with an oversized reception desk meaning that only one or two customers can queue at the desk and you may find yourself falling backwards down the stairs unless you are very slim indeed! I've got awkward hair, fine and a bit frizzy, finer one side than the other, difficult to manage. I went to Avant Guard today and talked to Hannah who was patient and really listened to me. I showed her what I wanted and she did it perfectly!! She didn't cut it too short like some hairdressers I've had in the past but just did exactly what I wanted and my hair for the first time in ages looks really fantastic. I visited avant Garde for the first time to get my hair permed. Over the phone I was quoted £60, which is the usual price I usually pay at other hairdressers. During the course of getting my hair done the main stylist had to run downstairs to cancel her next appointment, as the receptionist hadn't booked me in for enough time to do a perm I was told. The main stylist didn't do all of my hair, only putting the rods in. When I have got my hair done permed previously at other salons the stylists have always used rollers but I was told as Avant Garde that she would use rods as it would be easier for her as I have thick hair and it would be comfortable for me when I have my head back in the sink. I was not told they would charge me extra for this. The washing, neutralising and drying was done by several other people. After my hair had been done I went to pay and was told it would be £109 instead of the £60 I was quoted beforehand. When I questioned it I was told The receptionist did not know how long it would take or what techniques would be used. Apparently because the stylist used rods instead of rollers to perm my hair it cost nearly twice as much and it was all the receptionists fault! The funny thing is, people usually notice when I have my hair permed and comment how lovely it is, but nobody has even noticed this time. What a waste of £109. I am appalled by the lack of customer service here and I am definitely not going to use this hairdresser again and have warned others also, so be aware if you are a new customer like me! read more
