A great way to spend a day!!…read more Just on the outskirts of Leeds, not far from the royal armories, is a hugely understated building. From the looks of the industrial buildings around PPIK (Pole Position Indoor Karting) it doesn't appear to be up to much. Holy hell was I wrong. There are a number of races available, all ranging in cost. I'll detail the one I chose and for more head to their very comprehensive website. I got a group of mates together for an 'Iron man 50' karting session 50 minutes of warm up and racing. The cost per person was £50, which is quite expensive, but this is not something you do every weekend. Booked over the phone whilst in Japan they were obliging to process me really quickly, 10% deposit taken and dates confirmed. I also arranged to have trophies presented to the top three winners (out of our group). On the day we arrived we were handed overalls, gloves and hairnets (hygiene). There are lockers on site and it's advised that you use them, becase you will lose your phone to a tire) and after some prep work on flags, which mean stop / go / stop what you're doing / you're out of here you crazy b*stard. We went out for our helmets and a warm up. The track in fantastic. With two bridges and two tunnels it's a decent size. Plus with chicanes and choke points it's real fun with a group of mates. We had a few crashes, but the karts are nice and sturdy (Watch out for the sharp left under the bridge, I almost took a kart in the face). Note* When setting off on the warm up they recommend you leave some distance, between yourself and the car in front, to get a good time. Do it, and go hell for leather, because your best warm up lap will decide where you start on the qualifying grid. The higher up the better. Anyway. The lads and I loved it. We headed to the PPIK bar (plenty of draft beers), received a detailed printout, a good laugh, trophy presentation and a bottle of champagne (on the house) for the winner. Sadly I did not win, but I did get the fastest laptime of 47.600 - if you beat it let me know. A seriously good out!

One of the lads that was racing is a current employee at a different Daytona Venue and that was definitely the reason why I came 7th.

Daytona are a professional setup, keep a handle on things without removing the fun. Think it cost us £50 a head, which got us a few practice laps, and a 40 minute race with each of us pairing up (so 20mins each on the track if you split evenly) and if you came in the top three Karts you got a trophy... I did not get a trophy, but I do not feel bad as my kart came in the middle of our leaderboard, and I also later found out the kart that won, one of the lads has a secret double life of actually racing karts for a team, which I'm sure means in all circles that I was in a professional race as an amateur, yeah that was definitely the reason for my posting. price tag for what is an hours worth of entertainment means it's not something I'd be chomping at the bit to do every week, but certainly as a suggestion for Stag do's and Parties it's definitely there as a top suggestion

What a fun, unusual way to spend time! Go-karting is a great experience, fun for people of any age,…read moreand pretty hard to get wrong, unless inebriated. In which case, go home, not go-karting. My husband and I took our nine-year-old to Midland Karting this weekend, and had an absolute blast! My husband is a big petrol head, and I like to go fast on the freeway as well, so we thought the boy surely has it in his genes. And after a day of watching him spin out and drift through corners, it's confirmed. If you're looking for a clean, sparkling place full of OK magazine, you're not going to like this place. It's set up like an auto repair garage, with stiff metal chairs and industrial carpet. Everything is made of wood paneling, but why are you going to a go-kart place to analyse the decor! Get out onto the track! As for the track -- there are two -- the child's one and the adult's one. Children must be 8 years or older to drive. Their karts operate up to 20mph. The adult's track, one must be 12 and over, and the kart's go up to 40mph -- very fast with no suspension and your knees exposed to the elements! Go-karting in general is not cheap in the UK, but at £25 for 30 minutes or £45 for an hour, it is similarly-priced to other go-kart shops in the country. The one thing they offer that seems unique is a 10 minute "taster" on the track for £10. It doesn't sound like a long time, but is more than enough to race your friends and get a feel for the open air. With group prices falling just under £20 for a few hours, it is fairly economical. Midland Karting do children's parties, Hen and Stag Nights and Corporate Events. Their safety rating is fine, and the equipment was all up-to-date. We paid for half an hour for the tot, and then my husband paid for ten minutes. The guy knocked £2 off the price, and also let my husband stay out for an extra 10 minutes at no charge. The service was nice and friendly and chatty. All in all, a great way to let off some steam!
