The place was busy, which is usually a good sign, but now I think the mass of people wasn't because it's a great bakery but the crowd was simply due to the fact that this was the only game in town that was open. We selected a baguette "la tradition" (the ONLY baguette you should EVER order in France) and a chocolate chip cookie. The prices were outrageous, especially for such a small town. In France it should be super easy to make a tasty baguette and especially to make it in the superior traditional style, but this baguette was sad. The entire basket of loaves looked overcooked and burned, very unappetizing. I was sad that my baguette tasted even worse than it looked. The cookie was just okay too. It reminded me of the weird bakery cookies I used to get as a kid, ones that the creepy old lady in my small town would bake up. I swear it had Crisco in it, but I know that would be a huge no-no in France so maybe the baker just used a weird type of butter. It was crispy but not that satisfying. I used to say that I've never met a bread I didn't like, but thanks to this place I can no longer say that with all honesty. Skip this boulangerie, it's simply not worth the carbs.

The Madeline's were lovely too. A nice bakery to say the least. My favorite element would be the ovens and the conveyer belt you can see behind the counter with the bread going in and out. Reasonable prices, excellent selection and cute location. Can't complain. We went in November on a Tuesday morning and there was no one in the shop, a few patrons arrived after us. If there was a line for this I definitely wouldn't wait, it's not that good. However I'm under the impression that this is the best bakery in the central historic part of Bordeaux.

There are no two caneles that are the same, each bakery has their own style and texture. This is located near the tourist bus area or the Cardinal hotel. Very easy to find. Located right next to the Saint Michel cathedral, it faces the open square and is surrounded by several other cute restaurants and shops. There is no seating inside, but there is plenty of seating in the square. It's a popular spot so there is usually a line, but the lines moves quickly. Of course, order your daily baguette here (we did!). But in addition to their fresh baked breads, they also offer some pastries such as classic French croissants, cannelés, madeleines, and more. I found their prices to be extremely reasonable compared to other boulangeries in the area (we did our own boulangerie crawl), and the service was fast and friendly.
