What a brunch.
My…read morefriend told me this would be the closest thing to an American brunch there is in Paris, and she may very well be right.
For only 16.50€, we were served a full breakfast with a choice of fresh-squeezed juice (I had orange, she grapefruit), a hot beverage (coffee for me, hot chocolate for her), and then two courses: first the savory, then the sweet. The savory course consisted of scrambled eggs topped with chives, a small salad (lettuce, tomato, and a fat slice of white onion) with creamy vinaigrette, a wedge of hashbrowns (hashbrowns!), and two giant hot dog imitations (were they the French Knacki? It seemed so but it was hard to tell). The first plate was so copious I was unable to finish one of the hot dogs, especially as we had to tackle the second course (which, may I remind you, was included in the price of the menu). This featured a plate of palm-sized pancakes and a tiny cup of syrup (pancakes made from a box mix, to be sure, and the syrup was Aunt Jemima or something like it).
That day, we were the only ones enjoying the brunch, but it seems that this place gets a lot of regulars for their other dishes: giant burgers with all the trimmings, croques and salads and steak and fries... all was served quickly, and with a warm smile.
